HTC Eris :: Partition From Ext2 To Ext3

Aug 4, 2010

I am trying to flash a new ROM that requires a partitioned SD for apps2SD. When I try to partition from ext2 to ext3, this is what I get: Error : Run 'fs ext3' via adb! Anyone know what is going on here? I am coming from CELBFroyo. Edit: I forgot to actually partition first. I tried to hit ext2 to ext3 first.

Android :: Use Ext2 Or Ext3 Formatted External SD Card In 2.1?

Oct 12, 2010

If I insert an external sd card formatted in ext2 or ext3, will it be treated as a normal sd card (FAT32)? The device is Samsung Galaxy S (Korean) running Android 2.1 I need the answer before I get the device tomorrow, because by the time I get the device, I will not have any option to change anything in the card.

General :: Increasing EXT2 Partition Space Without Data Loss?

Jan 30, 2013

I'm planning on increasing my EXT2 partition space to around 4-5GB as I only have 100mb left of 2.5GB.

Do I have to copy and paste my EXT2 files to my main partition of the SD Card and change the partition size and paste it back into EXT2?

Is it also possible if I do this without having to lose all of my data?

General :: Mount Arbitrary Phone Partition On PC / Change Partition Names?

Oct 8, 2013

I am running rooted stock Android 2.3 on LG E405 (no working 4.x ROMs exist for the device)

I have two questions:

1) What is the shell command to manually make android allow the PC to mount androids' (internal) partition as USB-drive? (I cannot think of right keywords to google this one up - )

2) How does android determine which partition is which (i.e. which one to remount for the PC when connecting in "USB storage" mode), beside vold.fstab and init.rc? On android 2.3 that info is not in "framework-res.apk", so where is it? In the partition table itself?

I had switched data partition with internal sdcard partition.

Here's how: Phone had a very small "/data" partition on /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 and large internal "/sdcard" partition on mmcblk0p20

So I reformatted mmcblk0p20 (ex-sdcard partition) into EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 (ex-data partition) into FAT32

Then I changed init.rc to mount mmcblk0p20 as /data type EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 as /sdcard type VFAT (mounting /sdcard was commented out in stock init.rc for some reason). This required modifying my boot image.

I have also set correct partition number in vold.fstab:

[#]dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host[/#]

So basicly I now have a large /data partition and small internal /sdcard. I'm able install up to a gigabyte of APKs and it works fine.

However, when I connect to my PC via USB into "USB Storage" mode, the phone seems to still try to unmount what was previously sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p20), instead of what is NOW an sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p21) I can still send files to the phone via wi-fi and ADB, but the ability to mount it directly would be nice.

If I accidentally select "erase internal sdcard" from storage menu, that will also most likely erase what is now my /data partition, softbricking the phone. The "factory reset" option will probably only corrupt the sdcard.

General :: SD 2nd Partition Doesn't Work - MiniTool Partition Wizard?

Oct 19, 2012

I'm have been trying to create a second partition on my sd card using miniTool Partition Wizard. But in the end I never get a 2nd partition but just a smaller first one.My approach is as follows:

insert empty SD card (FAT32, 4GB)
open miniTool Partition Wizard
right click on SD card - "Move/Resize"
choose 1gb for unallocated space after - click ok
right click on 2nd partition and choose "create"
create 2nd partition with FAT32/Ext2/Ext3 (tried all options already) and "primary" and Cluster 4KB - click ok
Apply

Afterwards my SD card is still shown as one partition, but this has just 1gb less capacity then before.Neither the Wizard nor the phone detects the 2nd partition then.

General :: Partition Layout - Exact Meaning Of Value In CWM - Partition SDCARD

Aug 26, 2012

I can't figure what is exactly meaning the Partition Sdcard values in CWM.

I have an i9000, with 8Gb of flash. Some are system reserved. Available is around 6Gb.

When i run CWM, i can partition my sdcard, but i don't see what means the possible values (for 256 to 4096).

This is obviously not ruling the space left on /sdcard mountpoint (i partition to 2048, i still have nearly 6Gb available)... So what exactly means partition sdcard from CWM ??

i can't find an answer, and i dislike, when flashing rom, following commands i don't really master (generally a partition SD 2048 / SWAP 256 or SWAP 0).

HTC Eris :: How To Partition SD Card

Jul 23, 2010

This is for everyone who gets the "Insufficient space available" message when trying to install an app on a ROM with Apps2SD support. You need to partition your SD card! Here are steps on how to partition your SD card.

1. BACKUP your SD card! Partitioning will erase everything on your SD card. Mount your Eris to your computer and copy everything on your SD card into a separate folder on your computer.
2. Boot into recovery. (Hold the Volume up and Power button at the same time)
3. When you are in recovery, choose Partition sdcard.
4. Select Partition SD
5. Choose your swap size. (I chose 32MB)
6. Select the size of your partition. (I chose 512MB)
7. After partitioning, choose SD:ext2 to ext3 from the Partition sdcard menu.
8. Reboot your phone.
9. Make sure you have Apps2SD checked under Settings > Applications. (You don't have to do this with some ROMs)
10. To check if you have partitioned your SD card correctly, go to Settings > SD card & phone storage > SD card secondary. (Some ROMs don't show this)
11. Copy your backup of your SD card back to your SD card.
12. You can now run Apps2SD in any ROM that supports it.

When flashing ROMs with Apps2SD support, you no longer have to reinstall your apps.

HTC Eris :: Partition Sd Card Back To 0

Sep 9, 2010

Want to preface this by saying I just had a HUGE thread ready to go with detailed step by step of what I did and it just got deleted while I was hitting submit somehow. After wasting many hours this evening, I'll start over, again. So I wanted to Partition my SD card back to 0, 0 so I could flash KF V32. I backed up my SD to my laptop, wiped Partition, changed to double zero and moved everything back over. I factory/davelk wipe and after about an hour, I finally am ready to flash V32. I go to flash from my SD card and it says "F: File is Empty". I quickly realized what I had done wrong. I dragged the entire folder I created from my laptop onto my SD instead of dragging individually. Rookie mistake. Another hour passes and I'm so ready to flash my 1st Froyo ROM and 2nd ROM ever. I select KF V32 from my SD, click trackball to confirm and "File is Bad" pops up 2 seconds later. I decide to restore my newest Nand that I had made last night because I knew I'd be flashing this evening. I select it, its runs and I reboot. 20 minutes later, xtrCUSTOM pops up on the home screen and I realize that this is the stock xtrSENSE 4.0.6.1, not the Nand I restored. I immediately D/L'd Astro to see what was on my SD card and EVERYTHING was there. My nands, D/L's, settings, etc. My Titanium Backup I just D/L'd last night in preparitions for flashing V32 was there. My question to all the brilliant minds around this forum. WTF happened here? Did I do something wrong?

HTC Eris :: Re-root For Recovery Partition

May 3, 2010

I am pretty sure I have root, as if I open emulator and SU It goes $ to #. I am running build "2.19.605.1 CL123435 test_keys" and everything seems stable. It's funny that I'm running 2.1 because I never flashed the ROM, I couldn't get past recovery partition set-up.

When I try to press power+up volume all I get is the yellow triangle exclamation point with the android cartoon. This is where I stopped on my first attempt. When I powered the phone back up, it's running 2.1.

Can I re-download the recovery partition .zips and re-flash the root ROM to start all over? I'm thinking my DL's of some of the recovery images may have been corrupted. I'm thinking since I have root, re-flashing the root ROM shouldn't hurt anything right?

Kinda green here, it took me a long time to realize why there a bunch of different files with the same name, but not the same contents (pmb). I'm assuming that's the only filename that the boot loader will recognize.

General :: How To Delete Partition 4 And Extend Partition 3

Jan 14, 2013

I have bought a cheap chinese phone that had a 4g rom. 512mb is mapped to data as p3 and p4 is mapped to internal storage which is 2g.

I have managed to work out how to delete partition4 and extend partition3 as they follow on from each other.
However how do I remove all links to it in the system as it still tries to mount it on boot even though it isn't there.

I have removed the line from vold.fstab and that just crashed the external and internal sdcards and the storage section inside the system settings.

It seems strange to me: ext2/3/4 is the native filesystem for the device - but with device as USB host I can't access. It seems only FAT and NTFS is available.

Is there any ways to make this possible?

Background: my Sat-Receiver records to an ext2/3 partition and I would like to transfer this smoothly to my nook.

Currently my solution is to use my laptop, there I need a ext2/3 driver and transfer via MPT. This is not very comfortable and slow.

Motorola Droid :: Ext2 / 3 And Linux Swap Partitions

Sep 11, 2010

I've been looking for information about using ext and linux swap partitions today and thought I would ask here from more experienced users. If I understand things right most ppl use the ext partition for apps2sd but with froyo this is build in. So is there any further benefit to creating an ext2/3 partition? I've also read a few items on the linux swap partitions and its usefulness on older phones like the g1 but with the droid is this even needed? Arguments can be made for and against the linux swap but im looking for opinions or experience using it with the droid.

I know some roms make use of these from time to time but is there any benefit to using either type of partition on a rooted droid running the stock os. I try roms from time to time but stock seems to suit me better since I can run the wifi teather and overclock my droid up to 1.2Ghz and then remove the stock apps I don't want.

General :: How To Read / Write Ext3 File System Image In Ubuntu

Feb 18, 2012

I developed a cramfs rom for the np7 after user dochoppy found root for the nextbook premium 7 tablet, but he then converted to ext3 which because its packed with features will be more popular. So I am trying to edit his ext3 rom in Ubuntu 11.10 and here is what I do:

1. Copy and paste system.img to desktop
2. Create a folder called system on desktop
3. In command prompt:
cd ~/Desktop
Sudo mount -t ext3 -o loop system.img system
(Asks for pw)
4. Doc said something about only being able to edit as root, so after some Googling I find out how to create a program that grants root.
5. (Open "run as" program) then I type "nautilus /home"
(Asks for pw)
6. Navigate to mounted system and I have read/write privileges (but only in this window)
7. View the system mount properties, and it says I have 14.2 mb free space on device
8. Delete files throughout the system folder to make room (but when I refresh properties, free space increase doesn't show)
9. Try to add my own files after deleting some others, ans rather than using the increased space, it just fills the fourteen megs before telling me "device is out of memory "

why is the system not physically making the proper system increase and decreases.

I think it has worked, as I only have 14.35GB of my 16GB card remaining, and I'm sure I had a lot more than that available, even with the contents I previously had on it. How can I remove the partition to make the SD card "whole again" so I can begin this process again?
