I recently began using a2sd (I was running out of space with the stupid games for my 4-year-old, their not for me....I swear) and just had a question about doing a nandroid in case something happened, or I wanted to change roms or something. Is the nandroid process different for me now? If somebody could please enlighten me that would be great.

Just a little heads up out there for people like me who flash roms ten times a day. If you haven't already experienced this issue, you are likely to come across it in the future.
It is probably a good idea to make a backup of the contents of your sd card to keep when flashing from an a2sd enable rom to a non a2sd enabled rom. If your partitioned for a2sd and flash a non a2sd rom it will hold you phone at the boot screen or send you into an endless boot cycle.
I had to take everything off my sd card, re format the card, then flash the rom before I could load everthing back onto the card.
I may be a total noob, and for all you smart people this is probably a no brainer. But if I can keep anyone else from having this headache I thought it best to post it.
I rooted and installed Aloysius and I like it a lot! But I want to try the new Sense-Able or Evil Eris (or any stable rom that supports overclocking) - is this difficult to do? Everybody is posting about trying out all sorts of different roms on their phones but I'm having trouble figuring out that part of the process.

View 20 Replies View RelatedTrying to get a2sd working and tried multiple times and can't seem to get it to work. Here are the steps I took. If anyone has the correct way or steps to get this working i'd love to get a2sd working on evil eris 3.0.
1. flash evil eris 3.0 to my phone (EvilEris3.0 zip)
2. flash kernel update (ee3kernel-signed zip)
3. after doing kernel update w/o rebooting; partitioned the sd card; then clicked select sd:ext2 to ext3
3. downloaded a2sd and placed it onto the sd card (dtapps2sd-2.7.5-pf4a signed zip folder)
4. flashed a2sd (dtapps2sd-2.7.5-pf4a-signed zip folder)
5. rebooted
6. waited for the phone to turn on but it just stays black. for 20+ minutes and nothing happens. Today, I recently flashed evil eris 3.0 rom back onto the phone and would like to start out from scratch and have someone post up a guide that works since the one on xda doesn't work and every other page i've found in google can not get a2sd working on my evil eris 3.0. Please help me find a solution to get a2sd working on evil eris 3.0.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout two days ago the DamageControl2.0r ROM started giving me the WiFi issues, and where I am with no EVDO or even E network. I rely on the WiFi at work and home, and wherever else I may need it. So I attempted to flash back to Fresh2.0c using the wipe/reboot and all the normal steps. Well it kept booting back to the Damage Control ROM. Someone suggested I use Nanroid backup then tried reflashing the rom. Which ended up working. Well I then decided I wanted to try the New Kitchen, because I love tinkering with this stuff, and it wouldn't flash again. I had to use Nandroid backup to go back to Fresh2.0c and have it working properly. Is there something I could be missing completely?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you have been like me flashing and unflashing ROMs (sometime 3 or 4 times a day) keep and eye on your free space. My 16gb sd card was down to about 100mb (I do have lots of music and photos loaded up but a week ago I had almost 4 gigs free). I took a look in my Nandroid folder and there was the culprit. Every once in a while do a little house cleaning and clean out unneeded backups. I wish there was a way to name a Nandroid backup at the time of the backup to make it a little easier to sort out which is which. As new ROM releases come out (and I am drawn to try every one of them) it is amazing how fast you can fill your card.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLet me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.
So I just tried to go back to a previous nandroid backup I had on my phone, specifically CyanogenTazz because I didn't like the current ROM I was on... So I wiped my dalvik cache and did a factory reset wipe and then went to restore and it gave me this error "error : run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' via adb!" What is the exact command in command prompt to do that? And what caused this error?

Can I complete a NANDROID backup at anytime? Or just when I flash a new ROM? How would I use a NANDROID backup if I actually needed one? Can I delete old ones off my SD card? I have two and they are taking up a lot of space. Do I delete the BDS folder when I delete these?

I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am a droid user, but my wife has an eris and I am trying to get her phone from one of the 2.1 leaks to the official 2.1 OTA with root.I downloaded a "PlainJane" ROM from XDA which seems to be the 2.1OTA with an OC kernel, which sounded like exactly what I needed. So, I performed a nandroid backup of her phone as it is and then I went into the nandroid restore menu to see what my options were with the Amon recovery image. Turns out there was no "advanced" nandroid restore option like we have on Clockwork and SPRecovery on the Droid, so my original plan of wiping, installing the new ROM, and then restoring data was dashed.So, I attempted to just flash the new ROM on top of the 2.1 leak. This resulted in tons of FC's on boot up. I then rebooted the phone, did a full wipe, then installed the ROM. It then booted up just fine, but without any of her data of course.
That is no good though as I promised her I wouldnt lose her data (again, LOL). So, I then wiped again and proceeded to restore the nandroid backup I did before I started and now the phone is right back to where it was before all of this.OK, having said all of that, I really want to just wipe, install the ROM, then restore the data on top. Is that not possible on the Eris? Is there a different recovery image I should be using that will allow me to do this? I do it on my droid all the time and it makes swapping ROM's a breeze.
If you do a Nandroid backup, then save the file from your SD card... can you use that same file to do a Nandroid Restore on a new replacement Eris? Seems like that should work, but I just want to make sure it's not phone-dependent.

I know that I am missing something.You can search for roms. I can do that with google.You can reboot into recovery. You can do that buy holding the up-volume button.You can automatically install a rom from the SD card. No you can't. I tried and all the app did was reboot my phone into recovery.You can install a rom using a picture. What? There MUST be a way to install a ROM using ROM Manager without the need to plug into the desktop. Could somebody out there please educate me?
