HTC EVO 4G :: Reset - Reformat - Auto App Killer?
Jun 12, 2010
I have a EVO 4G from Sprint, and I've been downloading apps like a madman. My Advanced Task Killer has gone from like 1 or 2 apps killed to anywhere from 9-30+ killed now. I feel that I have bloated my phone even though I have uninstalled all the apps I haven't needed/been using.
My question is the Android Linux-based OS get bloated like Windows where info just keeps piling up until it just starts glitching?
If I have to do a reset, I would rather do it now than later...
Please advise me on the best way to go about this. I have a LOT of apps... also, what is the best auto app killer? I have Advanced Task Manger as well that does it like every 30 minutes or an hour or so.

I want a task killer that automatically kills processes when they load. Some apps like HTC sense and the built in messanger app I would love having them killed instantly, is there one that i can get? Before you say, yes the Eris DOES need a task killer. Asked any eris user, once it gets below 30 MB of ram, it slows down to a near halt. They majority of thos for me is processes that load without me telling them too, and ons that I never use, such as htc sense or the default messager apps. I'm rooted btw.

I just unlocked my Galaxy S4 with lates 4.3 OS. The code was accepted (succesful?), after that screen went to my normal desktop, but after a few seconds, then it started to boot, then message showed "erasing", and phone reset to factory settings, so I lost everything. Phone seems fine now, I can make calls and dloading on wifi all apps I lost. But wondering if this was due to lates firmware, or perhaps something went wrong, and still is? I didn't see phone reseting after unlocking on any tutorial videos I watched, but again, those were made way before this lates 4.3 OS. Also, I entered the unlock code with the wifi ON, opposed to instructions.

I was at Benihanas last night and my Nesus One was acting a little sketchy. Glitching while going in and out of the camera/camcorder. Since I had quite a bit of up time I rebooted and got the "SD card damaged you may have to re format it" error. I have a 16g Sandisk micro sdhc class 2. I bought the chip separately at office depot 8 months ago and spent $100 bucks on the thing because I read all over the forums about how people were having issues with the cheap ebay chips. This happened once before on my mytouch with the same chip. After I was threw crying in my cool aid I just formated the card and moved all the music/movies back over from my laptop. No biggie.
This time, my computer isn't even registering the card when I plug it in at all. After pulling up the notification and formating the card it will check for errors for what seems like an unusually long period of time it pops back up with the damaged sd card notification again. I have formated over and over, pulled the battery and removed the card and rebooted several times and even checked for updates for my laptop and rebooted it as well and just cannot for the life of me get this card unlocked. Here I am on vacation with my bran new $500 phone with a custom $100 chip in it and cannot even take an effing picture. So of course my Iphone and Blackberry fanboy friends are having a field day on me.

Last night as I was playing on my phone as I always do, out of nowhere I received a notification that my SD card was damaged and I may have to reformat it. (That really upset me as I had just recorded some video of my son earlier in the day). I had always used the 8gb card that I bought with the phone from T-Mobile and have never had any issues. Here's what I tried to remedy the situation, without having to reformat the card.
1. Unmount the card (isn't even showing up as an option now).
2. Power cycled the phone.
3. Powered off the phone, removed the battery and SD card, replaced both and powered back on.
4. Left the phone powered off all night.
5. Called technical support and they were unable to help me.
Now, I have a picture frame on my home screen with a picture of my son in it. It still pulls the picture, but if I try to view my Picture Gallery, there is nothing in it. (So if I am using the android picture frame widget, did it copy that picture to the actual phone?). I do have a card reader, usb cable, etc., but did not yet want to try and see if I could see the files on my PC until I could find out if anyone had any other ideas?

Has anyone experienced an corrupted SD card with their Droid? I was listening to a podcast through Listen while navigating home and the battery was getting low. But, I was nearly home so I figured it would make it. Well, it didn't. When I plugged it in it powered up and I got an error about a corrupt SD card needing a format. I removed and re-seated the card (after shutting down the phone, natch) but that didn't help. I popped it into a PC to try to do a scandisk, but the PC couldn't read it either.
I did indeed format the card. All is well so far, but it's disconcerting that this would happen after only a few days.

I've got an HTC Inspire 4G (similar to the Desire HD). I've been rooted and S-OFF since January when I switched to CM7. That was fantastic until late May. Phone started to freeze randomly. I decided to try flashing new ROM and am now using a JB ROM called Jellytime.
Symptoms
1. Phone freezes randomly. Removing the battery is the only way to shut it off. The time to freeze seems to get shorter and shorter eventually freezing during the boot animation. I can go in and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik (I'm using CWM Recovery v5.0.2.0) and flash the rom and get a little use again. But most of that time is spent signing back in with google accounts and redownloading apps.
2. I can't flash other ROMs. I've tried flashing back to CM7 or to Android Revolution which is a stock-ish ROM with no luck. With CM7 I'd get an error in recovery a little while after it started that I don't remember off the top of my head. Android Revolution uses a different revoery or flashing tool (I think that's what AROMA is) When flashing that ROM, things go well until I get the following error at which point my choice is to reboot.
Code:
assert failed:write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
Once I reboot I am back in Jellytime.
3. Can't mount /cache CWM Recovery will throw up some can't mount and can't open /cache errors once I "Wipe Data/Factory reset" I believe the two places it tries are /cache/recovery/log and /cache/recovery/last_log
4. Can't format System I've tried to format the /system or /data partitions using Recovery only to have an "Error: Can't format /system" returned.
Have I got a corrupt partition? My eMMC chip is fine as best I can tell. I ran 'dmesg | grep mmc0' and got the following back.
Code:
dmesg | grep mmc0
<3>[ 6.684753] mmc0: No card detect facilities available
<6>[ 6.685363] mmc0: Qualcomm MSM SDCC at 0x00000000a0500000 irq 98,0 dma 7
<6>[ 6.685638] mmc0: Platform slot type: MMC
[Code] ......
This link shows similar output for a good chip. I can't find the page now that had the messages indicating a bad chip. (browser history far too full of pages that led nowhere)
So...Have I got a corrupt partition(s)? Is there something else I should check? Is there a way to test partitions to find errors? e2fsck? How can I reformat things (from adb is fine with some guidance) if this is my issue and if that is the fix?

Anyway, I just wanted for everyone to post their favorite Task Manager/Killer, and why, and if there are any flaws. I personally use Advanced Task Killer Free. It has a simple UI, and the when you select or unselect apps it remebers it so next time you launch the app you can only remove the apps that you usually do, and keep ones that always run. It doesn't slow down or break the system.

OK so i updated to the newest 1.6 from BH_man's release. When everything looked good i tried gallery, but it kept Facing on me. When i looked around and found out that i had to make a new folder called SD on the card. So after doing that it would stay at the Loading screen. I could Back button out of it but then it would say i have no pictures. Then for some reason i decided to reformat the card. Bad move. After i went to setting >unmount> then format, i cant get it to mount the card again! I dunno what to do

One of the things I really like about the Incredible's browser is the fact that when you zoom in on text, it will reformat it so that you don't have to scroll from side to side to read everything, it makes it all in one column and does a very good job. Does the X's browser do this as well?

As of yesterday i cannot sync to gmail AT ALL here's how (i think) this whole affair started
My phone was reacting SLOW one day a couple weeks ago, so i popped the battery
well, the ph must have been in the middle of writing/reading to the ext mem card because when it came back up there was an icon in the notification bar indicating the card was damaged and needed to be reformatted
So, eventually i got around to formatting it but not long after, i got another icon in the notification area indicating i was getting low on storage space now, my email has stopped syncing i've got two gmail accts - and neither of them are working since yesterday around noon
This is a problem people!
I've tried to do a forced sync - i've tried soft resets
I've cleared the gmail storage cache - all i see is "your email will appear shortly"
Well... we're past "shortly" now and i'm getting concerned - thus, the post to phandroid here
I'm running the leaked 2.1RUU

Why a Froyo factory reset really isn't (plus, a fix for upgrade issues) | Android Central Its in reference to the X but I am going to factory reset tonight and see what happens."If you're one of those folks who is less than pleased with your Droid X after the Froyo update, this one's for you. Android Central Forums member Fabrian was at wit's end, and even talked of ditching his X (blasphemy!) because of the random bugs, general weirdness, and plain old unsatisfactory performance of his unit since the update. His last-ditch effort and ingenuity seems to have paid off. The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. Makes sense, too restoring data from Eclair to Froyo probably isn't a very good idea even if it is convenient.
We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! [Android Central Forums] Thanks Fabrian, nice sleuthing!"

I'm looking for an alarm clock app with one very specific feature - allow me to set the alarm tone to automatically stop after X seconds, then start again at the next snooze interval, and play for another X seconds.
Sure it seems every alarm app out there allows me to set Snooze intervals and stuff, but with my waking up habit, I don't like to physically have to touch the phone to get it to shut up until the next snooze interval. I like to lay in bed and let the alarm go for like 3-4 snooze intervals before I finally wake up.
I've tried Alarm Clock PlusV2, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Quick Alarm. None of them seem to have this.

I installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.

Is there a way to tell Android to do the following when setting the background image for a TextView?
1. Scale the image so that it's just large enough to fill the the entire viewing area without any black borders, while still maintaining its aspect ratio. This might require clipping once the image is actually displayed, but that's OK (read on).
2. Then, center the image in the viewing area, both horizontally and vertically.
3. Finally, clip the image to the size of the viewing area, without any further rescaling.
I'm guessing that this kind of image processing is not automatically done via any of Android's facilities, and that I'll have to do it myself. If this is a correct assumption, could someone point me to some documentation or some examples which could explain how I can accomplish this? I'm guessing that I'll have to subclass my TextView and implement my own onDraw() method, but could someone confirm or deny that assumption?

Are these the same? I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find the answer. I don't find any "auto brightness" setting in the settings menu on the Hero. I have auto backlight unchecked. What exactly does this do? Is this the screen dimming? Sorry, I am confused. Uh oh! Must be a senior moment!
While I am showing off photos I have on my phone, the screen dims...how do I keep this from happening?
Also, relating to photos..when I go to "Albums", I have 4 folders listed...Camera Shots, All Photos, etc. When I take a pictures with the phone camera, they seems to be in both folders. Why?
