HTC EVO 4G :: Application Won't Work To Get Screenshot On - USB Drivers
Jul 29, 2010
I'm trying to get my screenshot on, but since I'm not rooted the normal apps won't work. I followed the How to Install ADB or USB Drivers on Android Devices | TechPetals instructions but for some reason my PC won't find the drivers. I'm running WinXP SP2. Are there any definitive EVO files that can be used?

I have two machines, one a WindowsXP32, and one 64. Both with AMD64 chips. I have eclipse on both, and the SDK on both. I'm using the usb drivers with the HTC Legend (http:// groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/ 2b54d2ce1202b04b/dd6f9152cd50d64b?lnk=gst&q=usb+#dd6f9152cd50d64b).
On the 32bit one things work just peachy. Device recognised, and debugging working fine. However, the 64bit one doesn't seem to recognise the device. Windows recognise's the device, and windows device manage shows it, but "adb devices" lists nothing, and nothing shows up when trying to manually launch from eclipse.

So I rooted my moment and everything is fine and dandy. But when I went to flash back to the sprint stock firmware my PC won't pick up the USB. I have the drivers. My PC sees the phone as Android not Samsung mobile device. I can't seem to find a way for it to get the drivers. I wanted to try a different ROM then the one I'm running now.

I have owned my Droid since day 1 and I have been doing Android development, with ADB working, on my Windows 2003 Server laptop all this time. I'll try to be as detailed as possible. Things to note right off the bat: - Motorola Droid 2.1 - Windows Server 2003 laptop - ADB has worked perfectly with this for ~ 8 months My work gave me a HTC Evo to do some development on. I installed the HTC drivers, ADB worked fine, did my development and now I am done with the Evo. The problem is my Droid no longer works with ADB.

One of the reasons I rooted was so I could do screenshots (nerdy I know). Has anyone found an app that works on the DX once rooted. I tried this one;
screenshot - Android app on AppBrain
and all it did was create some "blank" 1kb PNG files in the screenshot folder.

EA has a lot of good games for ,Mobile, but which ones will work on Android phones such as Hero and Desire? I have Monopoly on my Hero and Desire, game is ok for Hero, but very fast on the Desire. EA don't list games as specific for Android so it's hard to know what would work. Cluedo would be a good one to have and Scrabble.

I am try to make Google map v2 application. I found lots of example and looks simple and strength forward. But unfortunately none of them work for me. I wasted couple of days and couldn't do make launch a map application yet. I configured prerequisites such as enable service Map 2 in google api console, Google Maps API key, download google-play-services_lib and import it in work space, etc. But always get FATAL EXCEPTION as soon as I call
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
}
I also added a file named Google APIs Console.pdf where I took print google api console to show my api key is correct as well.

I have a local Service running together with my application. I also have a class derrived from Application class.
When the local service is created it gets and uses the Application instance using getApplication.
Can the app itself be terminated while my service is still running and what happens if so? Would getApplication return null?

I'm curious as to how I can take a screen grab of my non-rooted phone since the update killed the use of the ShootMe app. No, I'm not interested in rooting my phone just for this purpose. Ever since the OTA update a few of my entertainment apps (soundboards and the like with lots of text and buttons) are having major alignment issues and I'd like to show the developers what they're doing on the Evo.

We am looking for a expert Android developer for Android application development. You must have documented experience in following areas:
- UI development - file handling - multimedia decoding - authentication
We already have our application running on other devices and can provide you with functioning models. We will provide you with a well documented API for you to interface to our servers. The UI will change a little compared to what we have now. You will have access to an experienced graphics designer for any necessary design changes.
We expect that you will sign an NDA and a contract with us. Compensation will be $20,000.00. Payment will occur as we launch the application. It will be based on a revenue share model where you will get 30% of the revenues up to a max of $20,000.00. We estimate you will reach the $20,000.00 mark within 2 months of application launch date. We are only looking for expert developers and you should be able to initiate the work within the next couple weeks. If succesful, we would be interested in extending additional work as the application evolves.

I have application that communicates with web server through REST. It works fine on a phone when connected via WiFi but does not work correctly when on 3G.
Not everything stops working. I'm still able to use some functionality but for some reason some calls to rest return "" (empty response) very quickly. Once again when I'm on WiFi everything works fine.
Just to clarify:
1. I have data plan :)
2. Server I'm connecting to is accessible from Internet

How can I take a screenshot programmatically? So far I've learned that:
1) DDMS does it by sending "framebuffer:" to the adb service over a socket, which takes a screenshot in framebuffer_service.c that it sends back.
2) There are some proprietary screenshot apps out there that stipulate the user must have root access, I'm not sure why.
Would it be possible for an Android app to send "framebuffer:" to its own adb service and get the screenshot that way?

All I keep seeing is people asking for an app that allow screenshots without root. The only solution all have given is installing sdk which is a pain in the bum to do. I have another mini-solution until such an app is developed.
Both Open Home and Home++ have this feature built in. Only negative to it is, you won't be able to take a screenshot of your HTC Sense UI home screen or Android stock home screen only the open home or home++ screen. But for many who are like me and could not run the SDK correctly, this works just fine.

My goal is to be able to type a one word command and get a screenshot from a rooted Nexus One attached by USB. So far, I can get the framebuffer which I believe is a 32bit xRGB888 raw image by pulling it like this: adb pull /dev/graphics/fb0 fb0 rom there though, I'm having a hard time getting it converted to a png. I'm trying with ffmpeg like this: ffmpeg -vframes 1 -vcodec rawvideo -f rawvideo -pix_fmt rgb8888 -s 480x800 -i fb0 -f image2 -vcodec png image.png That creates a lovely purple image that has parts that vaguely resemble the screen, but it's by no means a clean screenshot.
