HTC EVO 4G :: Wired Headset 2.2 / Manually Hang Call Up
Aug 3, 2010
Before I upgraded when I clicked the button on my ear buds with a Mic it would hang up the call I was on. Now when I click it it mutes the call. So I have to take my phone out and manually hang the call up.

When I'm testing the functionality of the headset button in a call, it just muted the mic, didn't hang up the call. And if there is no call, when I press the button, there will be a song playing, so I think the keycode is correctly reported. There maybe some code I need to add?

I've been looking for a couple of days and haven't found anything worth trying. I also do not like in-the-ear buds and would prefer something that goes over the ear.

This has happened to me several times in slightly different cases. Several times I've mistakenly placed calls to the wrong people (due to just messing around with the phone).
In a panic, I pressed the "back" button thinking that it will cancel the call. It didn't. I also tried the "home" button. Also no good.
I had to drag down the notifications bar to see the phone call in progress and finally access the red Hang Up button. That worked. The problem is that is is SLOW. And worse, one time the phone would not respond to the button press until after several tries (maybe the CPU was busy on something).
Anycase, that would appear to be a major problem with all these touchscreen-only smartphones - lack of a physical Hangup button.
Is there any workarounds to this? Perhaps some sequence or combo of the existing physical buttons to forcefully hangup an errant call?

I'm wondering if I can use a wired headset and mic with the DI? I already have one and the voice to text would be great with a wired mic. I'm sure it can do BT but then there's the extra battery it would use and I don't have a BT headset.

I have to say that the stock headset is very low quality (compared to the Moment itself). I also have a tough time adjusting to the answer button as it provides almost no feedback when you push it. Does anyone know of a good headset (wired) that fits well in the ear (this one hurts my ear).

I just upgraded my dream to a magic, and I have only one complaint. On the dream, when listening to music, a quick double tap of the wired headset button would skip songs. On the magic it appears to dial the last person I spoke to! It's hard to break the habit of trying to skip songs with this button, and annoying if I have to take my phone out of the sleeve and unlock it every time. Does anyone know if there's a way to change this? I've found no preferences for the music player or the headset. I'm using the stock headset and the HTC Sense version of the music player.

I have a wired headset with a boom mic. It is a cheap one, but works well. Only trouble is that the volume is too quiet. Wondering if there is a way to up the volume output? An aftermarket app. Or a hack if I have too.

Does anybody know any good wired headset with mic? I had the Motorola EH25 Stereo Earset And i liked it before it broke in 2 months. And i want to get an new one. But i want something that will last me longer then that. Even though i didn't lose any money on those because i bought it from overstock with warranty and they ended gaving me the full refund with the price of product and the warranty price back . I am not big fan of blue tooth headsets because first you have to turn on the bluetooth on your phone and then pair it and also then u have to charge your bluetooth end of the day. In the end its too much of an hassle. Besides the quality of the sound through wired headsets are much better then the bluetooth from what i have experienced. Any advice for good wired headsets(w mic). I will be using it for mostly phone calls and not that much music.

I have a cheapo wired headset (that works really good btw), but when it is plugged in, my phone does not ring normally; only through the headset itself. It does vibrate, but when Im in the car, I miss calls. Unplugging the headset just makes one more thing for me to worry about while driving when getting calls. Does anyone know how to make the phone ring normally through the speaker with a wired headset plugged in.

I'm looking a decent wired headset with the in-ear earbuds.I like the skullcandy stuff but I didn't know theirs is compatible with the Sprint HTC Hero. I'm specifically looking at the skullcandy full metal jacket. Can anyone tell me if these will work?

Using Intent.ACTION_HEADSET_PLUG, my app can be notified when a wired headset is plugged or unplugged. But how can it determine whether or not it's plugged in when it starts running? The closest thing I can find is AudioManager.isWiredHeadsetOn() which "checks whether audio routing to the wired headset is on or off" - but the headset can still be connected without audio being routed to it.

I have a serious problem with my HTC Hero. Basically, all of a sudden I got this icon of a pair of headphones in the notification area. I checked what it meant on the manual and it means: Wired Headset Connected.There were no headset connected when it appeared and never before because I have never put any headset in the phone. I thought that by restarting the mobile I'll have it solved..but no..the icon remains there. The major problem is not the icon in itself but the phonecalls. When I call someone or someone calls me, there is no sound in the ear speaker because the sound output is basically going into a headset that does not exist. I tried putting the factory headset in and out to refresh the icon however this does not sort out the problem neither. There is no setting to switch this thing on or off and I have no idea how it came up. I tried all settings even during an incoming call or so but nothing..there's this flag that keeps indicating a wired headset. I don't feel like formatting the phone because it's not fair!! (and i dont have the damn time to play around..it costs good money so i pretend it works fine he only way I can have a phone conversation is either by putting the call on speakerphone (obviously losing privacy) or by carrying a headset around with me all the time.

I am running Android version 2.3.7 on a Samsung Infuse
Due to water damage my phone no longer recognizes when a headset is plugged in or not, and thus always thinks that it is plugged in.
I have found an app that forced the audio to play through the speakers of the phone, but i am unable to find an app that does the opposite which is forcing the audio through the headset.
The app that does the opposite of what i need says it does 4 things:
Headset false
A2DP false
SCO false
Speakerphone false
I also realize there are widgets that can accomplish forcing the plug/unplugging of the audio, but i really need a very simple app that forces the audio to headset when opened. (i need the app instead of a widget to use it with tasker and other things, widget is very limiting.)
if it could be done through tasker that would be great too.

Brand new to the forums and the android world, only a few days into my Droid 2 and I am loving it.When I ordered the phone from VZW I ordered a pair of WIRED headphones, and they work great so far, nothing fancy but they do the job well.There is 1-button on the headphones, that allows for me to stop/play music and answer/drop calls when I get calls, but the one thing i am trying to do is get a way for that button to start voice dialing, i used the feature all the time on my bberry and would love to know if there was a way/setting that i am just missing.

is there any app that allows you to "turn" a wired headset to a bluetooth one via android?
You might think to connect an android smartphone to a normal wired headset (such as those supplied with most phones) and to exploit its bluetooth connection to use it on pc/consoles/... Do you think that it is possible?

There's an app called DroidShuffle which allows you to control your music playback from your wired headset. You can custom set singe click, double click, triple click, and long click to either pause, skip to the next track, go to the previous track, switch to shuffle, or seek ahead a bit. Also, when using your wired headset in a call, this app allows you to end the call with a long click. I haven't seen any mention of this free app and thought a lot people would like to know.

I've spend the last couple days looking for a way to hang up a phone cal via the API. I'm guessing for some "security" reason that Google does not allow this. Not being one to give up yet...is there any undocumented way to hang up a phone call? Of course the real solution would be for Google to add a HANG_UP_CALL permission and expose the hangup() method to the public API, but it doesn't appear that will happen.

Sometimes after I am done with a call the screen is black and I click on the screen to get it to light up so I can end the call with no results. I than push the little top button to turn on the phone by than the call has confused the voicemail I am leaving and I have to redo the message. I am leaving or push 1 or 2 go through all of that. Anyone else with the black screen and having to "unlock" the device issues? I want to never push that button on the top unless I lock it.

We are new to Android and creating an application where one of the things we need is to control the outgoing call, at least to be able to stop it from our application. For now we tried using Intent.ACTION_CALL to use existing activity:
Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL, Uri.parse ("tel:" + phoneNumber)); startActivity(callIntent);
But we can't figure out whether it's possible to stop launched by this default Call activity. Is it possible? If yes, how? If not, what should we use to write our own Call activity to make a very simple call? We would want this activity only to be used by our application, not for all outgoing calls.

I am trying to hang up an incoming call with injecting KeyEvent, however, got error below:
WARN/WindowManager(61): Permission denied: injecting key event from pid 296 uid 10024 to window Window{43d37708 paused=false} owned by uid 1001 java.lang.SecurityException: Injecting to another application requires INJECT_EVENT permission
Though I've added android.permission.INJECT_EVENTS to the project, still the same.
How could I deal with this situation, I just want to stop the call.

I'm just doing an application that controls who to call and how many rings let the call do. For example, to not wake up someone in the morning we only do 3 tones. I'm using the standard BroadcastReceiver method to stop the call from going out. I explain here for the people who want to do it, also.
[ Manifiest ] 1.- You need enough permissions: <uses-permission
android:name="android.permission.PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.CALL_PHONE" />
To make calls and process outgoing calls.
2.- You need a broadcast receiver that catches the broadcast intent:
<receiver android:name=".receiver.PhoneOutgoingCallReceiver" android:enabled="true" >
<intent-filter android:priority="0">
<action android:name="android.intent.action.NEW_OUTGOING_CALL" />
</intent-filter> </receiver>
[Code]
3.- You controls who can call in the:
@Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { }

Just bought myself the HTC desire HD 2 days ago and couldn't be happier except for one thing. Whenever I make or receive a call everything works but I can't hang up...the phone goes dead but the call is connected until the person calling/being called hangs up, and then I have to take out my battery to be able to use my phone for texting/apps etc, everything else works fine its just the screen refuses to light up again after I take it away from my ear.
If anyone knows what could be causing this or a fix it would be greatly appriciated.

"How do you hang up incoming calls (in Android of course)?"First, I know this question has been asked and answered several times, and the response is always "you can't". But if we look in the market we get a few applications (all private software, no access to the source code that do this action, such as CallFilter, Panda firewall and others.So does somebody know how these apps do the hang up action, (or terminate, or disconnect or whatever you call it)?And other question, if the first don't get a response.. does somebody know how send an incoming call to the voice mail?Of course, all questions are about how to do it programmatically. So with the voicemail question I know there's a flag in contacts that is used for that, but like I said, I'd like to know the programmatical way.

Does the Dinc have a way of ending the call automatically when the other party hang up without me having to physically push the end button. I guess this is useful when talking while driving and you know the phone will end the call when you set it aside instead of having to look on the screen. Is there a way to display while calling if the call is connected or the other party still has not picked up the phone.
