HTC EVO 4G :: Will You Buy Evo Outright Would You Get Cheaper Plan?
May 9, 2010
Just curious if it's the same with Sprint as it is with T-Mobile.EDIT: Please change the title > When you buy the Evo outright, would you get a cheaper plan?

I just spoke to a rep and was told that for four people, the price was: $140 for first two lines (includes $10 EVO premium)$40 for two other lines.Wth tax, this is almost $200 and not counting any insurance you might want to add. The reps stated if you buy the EVO and more than one line, you must get the 1500 minute plan. My family of four rarely breaches 600 minutes of our 700 minute plan (my family are mainly text maniacs).Since I would be forced into a 1500 minute plan and pay the $10 premium, the Sprint plan would be about $40 more than VZW. If you use the minutes, it would be fine, but not only are you forced into $10 more, you also are forced into the 1500 minute plan- even if you do not need it.Is this what others are being told? I was going to get the EVO to test it out, but may just wait for all the testers here to report back, through the next few weeks.

I'm really interested in buying a Desire although, unlike some, I intend to buy the phone outright with no contract as I already have a contract I am happy with. However, despite people saying this phone is cheaper than the iPhone, average prices are about 400 which is about the same price you can pick up a 16gb 3Gs. So, am I missing something? Whilst here, am I correct in thinking HTC offer a 2 year Warranty? For 400 I would like at least some safety in case it breaks through no fault of my own.

Hey everyone! So i went to the V store today and was looking to get an Eris but they don't make them anymore and so we looked at getting an X and maybe an Incredible, but was a bit too much =(. But when we were leaving the worker said check back on thursday when the back to school sale is, she said it might be on sale. What do you think? Do you think that its to early for it to be on sale or will it be?

I'm going to be in Japan for 10 days. I read that they put in a 3G network so I called Verizon and our phone do work there! Here's the catch, it's 1.99 per min! They have a Global Data Package that 64.99 unlimited data, so I'm putting that on for the 10 days I'm there. I just got my Dinc last week and I'm a total noob when it comes to it. Is there an app or way to use wifi to place calls cheaper? I've tried searching these forums but I can't find anything.

I'm currently thinking about buying a Hero because it looks awesome I was thinking about it the other day and have come up with a much cheaper solution to buy it and thought I would share it with you guys As I am currently on 3 I will use this as my example however it will work with any network. For 35 a month you get unlimited texts, internet and 3 to 3 calls. You also get 750 minutes. Not the worst deal in the world except you stuck with it for 24 months. At the end of the 2 years you will have cashed out 840.OR For 356.43 you can buy a SIM free Hero on amazon UK. Then a SIM only deal for 15 gets you Unlimited Texts, Internet, 3 to 3 calls, voicemail and Windows Live Messenger. The downside is only 300 minutes but that would suit me fine. And on the plus side you arent tied into a contract and can 'upgrade' whenever you like. With this method you dont need to use it for 24 months but, just to compare, this comes to 716.What do you think?

Does Sprint or any other carriers provide pay-as-you go service that can work with the Evo 4G? I bare use any minutes per month and have wifi internet access all the time during the week. I see no reason to subscribe a monthly plan that I don't use often.

I don't need messaging, so I'm wondering if sprint has a plan with only talk+data for EVO 4g. Both verizon and att give this option to their smartphones, what about sprint? The "everything data" plan from Sprint is definitely cheaper than others, but if I don't need messaging, it will cost me more.

I'm currently an iphone 3gs user and i've been hearing more and more about the evo that makes me love it. i'm an avid google user and i don't like how apple neuters their phone to google, or just about anything else to be honest. i've had to jailbreak just to get functionality that should come standard. I like that android obviously caters to google products and a small amount of research shows me that i can do everything i want with a droid device that i currently do with an iphone. on to my question...i could justify switching out of my current contract, but only on a monthly plan. my thought process is i could use a 4g device with google voip for calls. do you think sprint would sell data only plans to the phone?

I don't want a data plan. I waited in line at the Sprint store for an hour and a half this morning before being told that i must have a data plan to buy the phone, and there are no current plans to sell it unlocked. I have wireless 95% of where I go. Dataplans cost more than all of my utilities combined. I cannot believe these criminals won't let me buy an unsubsidized EVO and use it as a normal phone.

Sorry if this is a repost, I tried to search but couldn't find it. I understand you need to pay $10 more to use 4G. Does that include all phones on the plan, or $10 per Evo on the same plan?

currently have the lg voyager with $10 vcast and $15 internet data plan. ordered the incredible from best buy and will be activating from home. do i have to call up and cancel these both before activating my incredible and will the data plan be automatically implemented since its required? im guessing its to much to ask to just cancel the vcast and see if the internet charge carries over at $15 instead of $30. either way it will be worth it to get rid of this brick of a phone.

Curious what plans everyone has or is planning to get? At present I have no contract.I just went on VerizonWireless.com and picked a random smartphone and set up a mock plan- total monthly bill came out to $117.97 a month!Does that sound rediculous? The plan includes: 900 minutes +nights and weekends+5 friends+ unlimited texts 79.99 Unlimited Dataplan 29.99 Total Insurance 7.99 TOTAL: 117.97 How can I get a better deal? Or is that what everyone else is going to do?I have the ability to join a friends Family Plan, would that be wise?

I've recently upgraded devices and would like to give my son my old Thunderbolt to use like an ipod. I do not however wish to activate the phone. Are there any apps that will allow him to make calls or send sms messages when he is connected to wifi but has no phone number or data plan attached to the phone? I'm pretty sure he can make and receive calls using skype, he already is able to video chat with that...but I would love to be able to text him when it's time to come home etc..

I have google voice. And the quality is excellent but im on a non data plan so I can't check it out in 3g. I live in a t-mobile edge zone so I want to know about the voice quality & reliability cause I'm planning on getting a nexus with a t-mobile data only plan. Will it be like a regular phone call or will I have poor quality?

I got another phone and gave my wife the Behold 2 without data plan. I signed in using my SIM card, then put her SIM in and signed in. So we can dowload apps using wifi (or do I just THINK it's using wifi?) and she gets her gmail. But no apps access the web and can't browse the web.

since launch day, Sept. 9. Just a heads up for anyone upgrading or opening up a new account to a smart phone. It's up to you, but you just might want to ask and confirm at the Point of Sale if you are indeed on the unlimited data plan.
Received an interesting text msg from Verizon. Turns out my balance is $494.90. Evidently, I've never had a data plan and I've been getting charged for every single Mb.
*611 and CS immediately recognized what happened. I was never put on a data plan at the POS. It's as simple and complicated as that. $340 in data charges. She put me on the $30 unlimited data and credited me the data charges minus the $30 I would've paid this billing cycle.
No big deal except the long wait time over the phone and for some reason it took her another five minutes to do whatever was needed to fix it. Also, it has to be "cleared" first because "of the size of the credit". She'll call me back Sunday(she's off Friday and Saturday... good for her) after 1pm to confirm and tell me it went through.

(We'll see if this gets any votes for dumb question of the week.)I don't have a data plan, nor do I want one. I knew the GPS was problematic on the Galaxy S when I bought it, but I didn't really foresee much GPS use. I'm curious to play with it, but don't know how much I'll actually need it.Am I right in assuming that the basic GPS is separate from 3G in that I can use it to find my location? I understand that overlaying my location on Google Maps needs 3G (unless I'm using WiFi). However, is it also possible to overlay my location on off-line, cached maps like those in MapDroyd and Maps (-)?Also, what privileges/settings do I need for the GPS to communicate with these maps and show my location?

I've tried searching for an answer to this in the forums but I can't find someone who has already asked it.In any case I'm wondering whether its possible to use a Nexus One without a data plan. I have access to wifi pretty much everywhere I would use my device and thus a data plan really is not worthwhile for the cost. That being said I know that for other android devices, the very first time they're turned on, the user is required to connect to their Gmail account via data. Would I run into a similar situation with the Nexus One? Is it possible to use the device from the get go without any data? Do any of the primary apps(besides google maps obviously) absolutely require data to be used?

We bought a G1 off of a 3rd Party Carrier (brand new), and activated it via Wifi.Tmobile was able to recognize it when we put the sim card in.(the picture of the phone appeared when we went to account settings within the tmobile website). So basically, we have an unlimited text and messaging plan. and NO data plan.
The internet works fine on the phone when using wifi. However, we are having issues with picture messaging. We receive the text message + picture attached, however, the g1 will not let us download it. I have looked around and seen workarounds for this error. One method was to forward the text to an email and download it from there. However, we could not get this to work.SO my question is,What (if any), is the most up-to-date method to get MMS over Wifi without a data plan.
