HTC EVO 4G :: Unable To Download Pictures In Received Texts

Sep 25, 2010

Using Handscent. (However, have same problem with the supplied "Message" app). I get the texts fine....but he photos attached won't download. I get a notification that the "Message was not downloaded"...under that it says: "Generic Network Failure". I've seen a number of posts on various forums about this...but can't find a fix. Predictably, Sprint's suggestion is to do a hard reset. (They act as if that's no big deal...seems to me that it will take a long time to get my device put back together the way it is). BTW: Have tried to access texts via 3g rather than Wi-Fi, etc. Lately, it has been one thing after the other with the EVO.

Android :: Saving Pictures To File System

Apr 30, 2009

I am developing a photoshop application for the G1 where you can apply different filters to your pictures stored in the pictures folder. So I use a gallery and a cursor to select the picture I want to manipulate, copy the picture to a bitmap so I can perform some filter operations and afterwards save the new bitmap as a new file to the phone. So I figured out that there are basically two options I have to save the image. One is to use the MediaStore.Images.Media.insertImage() method, which generally would work, but I don't want a thumbnail to be created. The second option, which I actually use, is to use an OutputStrem.

import android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media; import android.content.ContentValues; import java.io.OutputStream;
// Save the name and description of an image in a ContentValues map. ContentValues values = new ContentValues(3);
values.put(Media.DISPLAY_NAME, "road_trip_1");
values.put(Media.DESCRIPTION, "Day 1, trip to Los Angeles");
values.put(Media.MIME_TYPE, "image/jpeg");
// Add a new record without the bitmap, but with the values just set.
// insert() returns the URI of the new record. Uri uri = getContentResolver().insert(Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values);
// Now get a handle to the file for that record, and save the data into it.
// Here, sourceBitmap is a Bitmap object representing the file to save to the database. try {
OutputStream outStream = getContentResolver().openOutputStream (uri);
sourceBitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 50, outStream);
outStream.close(); } catch (Exception e){

HTC Droid Eris :: Eris To Incredible - Trackball Not Responding - Camera Not Saving Pictures

Oct 6, 2010

I am currently on my second Eris and I am having problems with my trackball not responding and something screwy with my camera not saving my pictures.

Right now I would rather pay to downgrade to another phone like a BB or even pay full retail value for a completely different Droid because I am afraid if they send me another Eris it is just going to break again.

If I call VZW and talk to them, will they send me another Eris that will most likely to break or will they send me a D1 or an Incredible?

I love my Eris but i just can't use it anymore and i feel like i will keep having problems if they keep sending me refurbs.

HTC Desire :: Sometimes SMS Not Being Received

Sep 20, 2010

I have had many occasions where I haven't received sms from friends. I have a HTC desire with Telstra and I have attempted to resolve the issue starting with the provider. I turned the phone off and on, replaced the SIM card through the provider, attempted to send myself sms to which I received them straight away. I escalated the issue to the level 2 tech support team whereby they reset the network settings on the network side and then followed the above steps again. They came to the conclusion that it was a handset issue. They transferred me to a HTC department whereby I spoke to someone about this issue, and they asked me my initiative to resolving the issue. On top of my encounter with Telstra, I have reset the phone to its original settings, updated the firmware to the latest (1.25xxxxx) aka the Telstra ROM, synced the phone to the pc too.

To continue with the HTC department conversation, he had said to me that if I have done all the above, its a Telstra network issue! I never mentioned to either department that I actually work for Telstra because I assumed they would treat me like an idiot, so I am aware of all the procedures both the company and manufacturer take when dealing with this type of issue, they really handball around until the consumer gives up. In this case my final resort was this forum, to which I sadly am trying the uninstall of chompsms even tho the logic behind how these sms apps work would in my view make no difference to the phone not receiving a message, but I'll try anyway (in addition, I also did all the above with handcent). I will see how this goes. Would anyone believe that the phone itself has the rare issue of going into a type of black state where it turns the network off intermittently? I really have no clue what to do, I am hoping that android 2.2 fixes this, or I may have to try n get HTC repaired even tho they will do all the above anyway.

code:..........

Is this correct? I'm sending my phone some sms messages, but the log statement never gets printed. I do have some other SMS applications installed on the phone, which display a popup when the sms is received - are they somehow blocking the intent from getting passed down to my app, they are just consuming it completely?

HTC EVO 4G :: Possible Battery Saving Tip

Jun 22, 2010

We don't officially have 4G in Denver yet, but I've found two locations that I get a good 4G signal:

Near Elitch Gardens (LoDo)
I-36 near Sheridan

So the other day I was messing around with the 4g and accidentally turned off the "Mobile Network" option in Settings > Wireless & networks. When I was in the 4G area I didn't notice because everything worked fine. But when I left the area, I had NO DATA coverage.

Of course I thought that the Sprint network was down (3G) maybe due to upgrading and eventually called Sprint to see what the deal was. Of course eventually realized that the network wasn't down so it was my phone. Was going to be driving by a Sprint store anyway, so I stopped in. Rep noticed my stupid error right away and re-enabled the "Mobile Network" and data came back to life instantly.

But that got me thinking... Did I really have 4G working without the "Mobile Network" enabled? If so, that means that when I'm in a solid 4G area, I can disable "Mobile Network" and save some battery.

Was I imagining this? Or can you really turn off 3G to save battery while on 4G (or Wi-Fi)?
