HTC EVO 4G :: SD Card Storage / Music Not Working
Jul 20, 2010
Kind of a strange issue, and I'm not sure if this is an Evo issue, android issue, or if I have a weird SD card. On my SD card, when I put my music on, it takes up 5GB, but it doesn't take up nearly as much space on my iPod Touch? Is this due to the way iTunes pulls songs from CDs (where most of my music comes from)? Or am I doing something wrong?

Maybe this is more of an android question, not sure, but here it goes: so the incredible has 6+ gb of onboard storage, primarily for media. if i buy a micro sdhc card (say 8 gb), will the music/video player apps see both storage devices and merge all songs/videos into 1 selection screen, or is it like a real computer/os and i have to swap folders/drives? if it's the former, will it be seemless? what happens to play lists? can i have a play list that spans on-board songs and songs stored on the card?

My phone keeps telling me I'm low on space, but I cleaned out my sd card and I know I haven room. Just today my phone at the top scroll bar said I was running low on space, and that my text memory was full even though I only had very few.

I downloaded the leaked google music app from ICS, and it works great.
My only caveat is that when I choose to make something available offline, it goes straight to my internal storage (Motorola Atrix).
I have a 32gb microSD card with a dedicated folder for music. Is there a way I can get the offline songs onto there?
I currently use PlayerPro from the market, and I wanted to use the Google cloud for "wirelessly syncing" my music.

My 8GB SD storage card is nearly full while my internal phone storage has over 6 GB available. Is it possible to use the internal storage for music, my biggest storage hog. I'm concerned about running out of space on the SD card for the various backups required for exploring new ROMs.

I use doubletwist for listening to new music that is stored on my SD card. I use Google Music for streaming my favorite tracks that I have uploaded. The problem is Google Music automatically searches my SD card and displays all the music stored on my phone along with the artists/playlists/etc. that I have stored on the cloud, which makes it confusing when browsing the library. Can I prevent Google Music from searching and displaying what's on the SD card, but still allow doubletwist to see it?

I recently bought an SD card for my Samsung Galaxy Centura, mainly so I could store music on it without taking up much of the memory. The odd thing is, when i went to play some music using the music player, only about a quarter of the songs showed up. When I used Android File Manage to check the SD card, they were all there and playable. All the songs are MP3 format. how I can get the songs to work on the music player?

So I have been quite perplexed as to how my SD card was filling up so quickly. I would try out a ROM for a while, make a Nand backup, have about three of those on the phone at a time, always making a copy onto my computer. And yet it seemed like every time I deleted old Nands and ROM from my phone, my space continued to get smaller and smaller, until today I was down to 900 and some odd megabytes. I don't have that much music or other media stuff on my phone, so I plugged my phone in, went through and deleted more music, videos, etc. off of my phone. Turns out, while I had my phone mounted (I use a Mac), and I dragged files from the phone into the trash can in the dock-- it wasn't actually deleting the files from my phone, but merely putting them in the "Trash" folder on my SD card. So I went through using Astro and deleted everything in there. AND I'm back up to fish gigs. not sure if anyone else might have made the same mistake, or if I completely outed myself as a NEW B, Whew, what a relief though.

I'm looking to get a microSD card for my EVO by the 4th and I want to know what I should go for. I know Class 6 is the fastest, so that's what I thought I wanted to get and I wanted to get a 16gb but it looks like it's $80 on Amazon. Now, that's damn expensive for 16gb of storage and I'm not used to buying storage for my phone since I've had an iPhone. Is it worth it to drop to a lower storage capacity or a lower speed? How much of a difference does the transfer speed make on the phone? Does it hinder the speed of the phone at all? Also, for those lucky bastards that got the HTC EVO ahead of time, what kind of card comes with it?

I have been having the problem of the music player not displaying embedded album art. To fix this I tried Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Media Storage, then clicked "Clear Data"
I was told this would make the music player "rescan" for tracks and update the player. DON'T DO THIS ON THE INCREDIBLE! It caused the music player to not find anything on the internal storage.

In Android, when you plug in via USB your phone to your PC, in the notification bar, a option is given to show the device as a USB drive. I dont get that option any more and I dont see anywhere to enable it or select it.

Are there any video or music player apps that are capable of recognizing media on the internal storage? I know that the HTC players can do it, but I'm looking for something with a few more features. I've tried mixzing, Act 1, and cubed (aka RockOn), but they each can only see files on SD cards. There does not seem to be a way to tell the apps to look in the /emmc directory. I'm new to Android so maybe it's just a matter of developers updating their apps for the Incredible?
I was thinking, alternatively, is there a way to create a symbolic link with an app like Astro to make the files *appear* like they're on the SD card?

I wiped the internal storage on my htc one on accident while trying to wipe the dalvik cache on twrp. Now when I turn on my phone it gets stuck on the splash screen. I hold down the volume button when turning it on and it goes to hboot where I am able to navigate to fastboot and my twrp recovery. Besides those two things all data on my phone is completely gone the storage only has about 16 megabytes on it now. In the cmd prompt typing in adb comes up with device not found and adb device shows an empty list.
Fastboot devices in cmd however dpes find my phone which is odd. Updating my drives doesn't work and the mtp driver can not install for some reason. So I can not use adb to push or sideload anything. I could use twrp to sideload something maybe if I could somehow get something onto my phone. RUU won't work because I never turned my s-off and since I am now at this stage I don't know of anyway I can turn my s-off. how I could get my adb to find my device(updating drivers doesn't work). I've unlocked and relocked bootloader so many times for different things. Basically there is no os on my phone. I can not use adb to put a rom on my phone. I only have access to boot fast boot usb and twrp recovery.

I was putting files on my SD Card from my computer and I noticed I was using up a lot of space. When it got down to like 3.24 GB remaining, I decided to delete stuff off the card to free up some space. I deleted just about everything, but it is still displaying 3.24 GB as the amount of available space. what is going on here? How do I fix this?

Now I need some information about SD card storage. I know that the API Environment.get External Storage Directory() can return SD card path. But if an Android phone have some no-removal SD card, how do I get this storage information. I think the removal able SD and no-removable should be at different path.

I just upgraded my memory card and I would like to get the data off the old one onto the new one. I connected it to my LINUX computer, copied the contents of the old drive, and then copied them back to the new card. No luck. I get a mounted as read only error. Is there a standard way to replicate my old memory card onto my new card and have the phone like it?

I rooted a few weeks back and very happy with everything apart from I keep getting low on space notification for my phone storage, when I rooted I didn't bother with partitioning my sd card as read about Mod Install Location which basically forces apps to be installed onto the sd card and didn't think I would need to install anything on my internal storage but it seems I keep getting low storage notification. So I am assuming some of the apps I install have to use a little bit of the internal memory? I used Cache Mate and checked all the apps etc. So considering doing the partitioning to trick my phone to think it has more space but wondering will I lose everything or have to back it up? Or any other tips to free up internal space as it seems ROM I am using (neophyte 1.6) didn't free up much space.

I can't seem to find a setting on the phone that directs storage to the handset or the card so if a card is installed does that just make it the default storage dump then? I'm confused.
