HTC EVO 4G :: Rooted - Cannot Find ROM Installation Instructions?
Sep 29, 2010
I have downloaded the Fresh 3.3.0.1 to my desktop and have no clue what to do next. Every thread I follow leads to discussions of folks doing it, having issues, etc but I never actually find instructions on how to do it?

My name is Moondog and "I'm a tehno-phobic Moto Droid newbie"..Although the Droid is pretty easy on the basic stuff, I am sure that there is lots more I could do with the phone.I've read the online manual, but it doesn't get into much detail.Does anybody know where I could find more in-depth instructions?

I'm trying to install SDK so I can root my phone, but I've run into a problem. I'm trying to update my drivers, but when I choose my usb driver folder, it says it cannot find the drivers to be installed. What is it I'm missing? I have the SDK folder on my computer. Does it need to be installed onto my phone's sdcard?

I am wondering if and when 2.1 is released by Google will we be able to get full featured versions of 2.1 on our rooted phones a lot sooner than the OTA update. Secondly, does anyone know what kind of install it might be. Will it just be another ROM to replace the humancyborg ROM that most of us are running. Hopefully when 2.1 is released it shows up quickly on here.

Should I update the firmware on my rooted Hero, and if so, how would I go about doing this? The OTA download occurs, as well as the beginning of the install, but I get to the green screen and it says:
Welcome
Build : RA-heroc-v1.2.3
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: No signature (265 files)
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted.

I've rooted my HTC Desire with Unprovoked, running Clockworkmod Recovery ROM and AuraxTSense on top.
I've noted that I cannot install the latest versions of Gmail and Google Maps from the Market.
After the whole download gets over, it gives me a message "Installation unsuccessful"
Edit: I've tried downloading the .apk. But installation of even that fails.
Has it anything to do with my custom ROM or with rooting? Can anybody suggest a workaround?

I just want to make an informed decision after rooting. Sure I may try more than one but I don't know where to start. I'm open to recommendations preferably backed up with reasons. I'm an ubuntu user but I prefer GUI over the terminal. My terminal literacy is almost nonexistent.

Being a bit aged and new to all this android techy stuff I get easily confused. After reading on this forum about Pro Launcher and how a lot of people were raving about it I decided to install it. Now I can't work it! I need instructions. I know there ARE some on this forum somewhere, but can I find them? Can I heck!

So how do i turn off the voicemail instructions that callers have to sit through every time they get my voicemail?
"After you have finished recording your message..." bla bla bla.
I had it turned off on AT&T so my callers would hear ME tell them i wasn't available, and then a beep. No canned instructions.
I found seemingly outdated instructions for Sprint that dont work (at least on the EVO).
Anyone know where its hidden at on the newer voicemail system?

It's been awhile since I've done an update. I'm on Ult Droid 9.0.0. I noticed that there are no ROM Manager instructions for 9.8.0 but that states you have to do a wipe and clear cache prior to installing the update. Do you still do all this through the ROM manager? Or is there another way to install this that is "better"?

**UPDATED**
1. On your phone go to Settings > Applications > Development > and enable USB debugging.
2. Go to unrevoked.com on your HTC EVO web browser and download it and install it.
3. Run the Revoked program and click on Start. You should get a message that says, "successfully rooted"
4. Go to http://bit.ly/c2oonC and download and install the wireless_tether_2_0_2.apk with your HTC EVO web browser.
5. Run Wireless WiFi Tether (When a box pops up, click on ALLOW)
Notes:
- When you restart the phone, you have to root it again to run Wireless tether.
- Sprint will not bill you anything extra, don't worry. Droid, NexusOne users have been doing this for a while with no issues.
- You do not need to have the "$29.95" tethering plan with Sprint.
- WiFi signal is not strong, so your device had to be near by.
- WiFi tethering uses up alot of battery life. About 1% per minute or two (thats constant connection loading webpage/video streaming). WiFi tethering also worked with my iPad.

I need to run six animations simultaneously (each animation simulates a roll of dice, each dice is a custom text view) and at the end of those animations, I need to get back the number of each roll. As each animation changes the number of each dice five times (to simulate the roll), I want to wait that each animation has ended to calculate the sum of each roll. I tried to regroup in one the six animations (so that with an animation listener, I would have been able to wait the end of the animation) but I didn't manage it.

I recently began using K-9 Mail. It seems to have good potential, but I can't find any sort of set up manual. One of my questions is what is polling and how does it differ from push email. I come from a BB and understand Push, but polling and setting it up is confusing me.

I have an HTC Desire, just upgraded to 2.2 (seems a bit slower) and I would like to have the navigation instructions routed through bluetooth to come through the car stereo speakers. Now I know this can be done with A2DP but I was wondering if it can be made to work over HFP?
Over A2DP it works but it means you cannot listen to any of the in-car sources like CD or radio as you have to have it permanently switched to bluetooth audio to hear the instructions. If it was over HFP, the car stereo would mute whatever source you were listening to so it could play the navigation instruction. Is there a way to make this work, or an app to download?

I am using the excellent Record It utility to allow me to send record instructions to my Sky+ box. All was well until the last update, where version 3.6.0 was corrupted in the Android Market. I have spoken to the developer by email and the problem has been fixed now. However, whenever I try to download now, the download fails, and Market FC's when I cancel the download. I have managed to find an old version I had backed up, but I am now stuck at v2.7.3. Can someone post the apk for version 2.8.0 please? I have asked the developer, but he did not reply. This is a paid app, and is linked to the phone ID, so I am not trying to install without paying.

I'm ready to root my Evo just looking for detailed instructions on how to get Fresh 053 on there. Read that I needed to do something with the NAND? Can anyone point me to a link for instructions on installing it from stock release day rom to newest Fresh version. I also updated with the OTA when it was pushed to my phone earlier if that matters.

I am going to try and root my phone tonight so that I can install the new Fresh Rom. I always see people saying that you should read and read and read before you root. Do I really need to read and read and read when there are step by step instructions to follow? Also, at what point of the process of rooting are you most vulnerable to bricking your phone?

I know there are many threads on this already, and I apologize for creating yet another one, but I can't seem to find a clear answer on how to do this. I've already tried the method described in the "Guide from stock 1.5 to the latest root 2.1 thread" and that method failed. Here is the situation, I'm having an issue with my phone that is basically making it unusable, see this thread: Phone stuck in headset mode. This is my 2nd eris after having it replaced once already, and I'm going to try and use this problem as an excuse to complain my way to an upgrade. But before I go into Verizon I need to unroot my phone. I currently have a rooted v of 2.1, I'm not sure what is is called but I think it's basically a rooted version of the official OTA. I am not on Leaked.
Now after the OTA I don't know if 100% stock means 1.5 or 2.1 but basically I need it so Verizon can't see that I've voided my warranty. I am looking for an idiots guide to going back to 100% stock. I've found a few threads on this but I am not tech savy enough to understand the technically discussion to know if these methods will even work for me. I'm looking for a easy to follow guide back to stock that is written so that even an 8 year old can follow it. And I'm not talking about one of those freaky computer genius 8 year old, I'm talking about the kind of 8 year old that picks his nose and eats paste, the one who is a little bit slow. You know who I'm talking about we all went to school with at least one kid like that.
