View 4 Replies View RelatedIt turns out that if you are synching Outlook with a server, not all servers can handle Adroid phones. I don't know if an app like Touchdown would fix this, so if you need to synch with a server, check this out. Because I wanted to go with AT&T anyway for tethering reasons (a fairly unique situation), I went with an Iphone and have been quite happy with it, though the jury is still out on the touch keypad. An advantage of the Iphone is that the world has adapted to it. My Ford Escape synch system will not recognize all phones, but does recognize the Iphone, given how popular it is. This also may be an issue for some people, not for others.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, I've been reading all the posts on how to root and as a Linux power-user I'm good with all that. I've seen reference to a couple of ROMs, but no comprehensive list of them or what they do. Is there such a repository or list somewhere that would allow me to look through a list of popular ROMs and choose one?
Another question, that might pre-empt the 1st... I like the stock 2.1 DROID, the only things I really want to be able to do are to overclock and remove a couple of the stock applications that I have no desire to look at. My reading indicates that I might not even need a custom ROM to do this, is this accurate?
It appears that I have deleted or moved the popular app folder from the Android Dock or favorite bar. How i can get it back?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on an app that allows sending lots of text messages. I have two questions:-
1) If I send too many messages together (around 80), only about 10 actually go and the rest fail in the first try. Do networks limit how many sms can we send per second or something? Will pausing after every sms help in this case?
2) I believe Android shows a dialog box if we send more than 100 sms in an hour. I am sending SMS from a separate thread. Can Android block that thread if there are too many SMS being sent?
I have around 3000 messages from one person, currently they are all in one conversation, because of the number it takes a few moments to load the page. I know I can set the phone up to delete the old messages, but I don't really like deleting messages, or email, I just don't like doing it. I'm looking for an app (or if the existing message app has a solution) that will allow me to have a smaller conversation or a way to load just the last few messages unless I ask to see older messages similar the the iphone. Does anyone know if this kind of thing exists?

I purchased my moment about 2 weeks ago and have been having fun figuring it out however there are some areas where I am having problems.
1. When you want to attach a document it selects the picture folder/area, how do you browse instead of being forced into that area.
2. I downloaded ringtone app and have found the app quite useful, the problem I am having is, the ringtones I have created don't show up in all the ringtone areas of my phone, what needs to be done to correct this.
3. The basic user guide that comes with the phone says there is an app I can download called samsung new pc studio. When I call sprint or samsung they say this app is not available or can't be used by a casd(the u.s. standard, I think casd is right), they say this software is only for the other standard, I did find this app on the web. Is what sprint and samsung saying true if not can I use the ones I found on the web.
4. If you could choose only ten apps to have(free)which ones would you choose?
I used the htc ringtone trimmed for one of the song in my music library on my phone and I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but how are you able to delete these ringtones when you no longer want them? The program its self works fine for making ringtones but I cannot find anyway to delete them. I even looked in Astro. If someone doesnt mind could they please lend some advice on this. I've searched in the forums and I havnt found a solution to it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy fiance upgraded from LG Voyager to Droid 2. She wanted her old ringtones from the Verizon Media store so she downloaded them. When she stored them they were given default names. I was able to make the appropriate ringtone associations, except for voicemail. I have 2 questions:
1. How do you set a ringtone for voicemail? When I run the standard voicemail app (Verizon) I cannot being up a menu.
2. How do I change the name of a ringtone file?
I'd like to set a new default ringtone without using the ringtone picker. In other words, there is a certain ringtone that is already installed on my system, and I want to programmatically set it to be my default ringtone without any human interaction. The reason I want this is because every time I reboot my N-1, my previous default ringtone setting gets forgotten, and I am given another ringtone that I don't like. I want to set up an app that I can run manually (or better yet, to cause to automatically run upon startup) which will reset my default ringtone to the one that I like without my having to manually do this via the Settings.
The only examples I have found so far for doing this involve using the ringtone picker, but as far as I can tell, this requires human interaction, which I want to avoid.
Trying to set a mp3, what's the difference?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHey all, so I just got a Samsung Galaxy finally in the mail. It took long enough to figure out how to put music on it, then use my music for ringtones. But when I am in Settings for Notification Ringtones, I do not see the mp3 I added but only in Calling Ringtones. Why is this? I want to use the same ringtone for notifications too!.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have updated my contacts and Google Calendar in preparation for the Captivate. Anxious to get going. I have spent quite a few hours reviewing one 13 page thread of 'favorite apps', and put together a list that I interest in looking at. I have some searching to do for some things that didn't come up. Priorities are good Calendaring; Easy use of voice for calling contacts; Financial Software to track stocks. Many other things of interest. Here is what I probably will be installing for sure some time fairly quickly (not all of my interests are met in this list): NOTE: The links may take you to a descriptive site, or may take you to a review..............
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking into writing an Android app that has a database of approximately 2000 longitudes and latitudes which are effectively hard coded.I assume that once my app is installed, I can put this information into the SQLite database, but how should I distribute this information when the app is downloaded? One option I thought of was some kind of Patricia Trie to minimize the size of the data (the points will be in a number of clusters, rather than evenly distributed), but I'm not sure whether such a collection would work when there are two associated numbers to store, along with perhaps some other information such as place name.Does anyone have any thoughts, input or suggestions?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have notices following:
If I have a project with minimum files in res folder, the project saves quickly, compiles quickly and launches quickly. But if I have a lot of resources, my project is saving, compiling and launching during relatively long period of time. This is really frustrating if you do some minor UI updates, and you have always wait Eclipse to generate R file etc.
Just wanted to let you all know about my new app. It's called Searchify, it's free, and it hooks in to the Quick Search Box (on Android 1.6 or higher) to let you do all sorts of things. Searching lets you perform translations, calculations, unit conversions, wikipedia searches, calendar entry and more just by typing in searches. Some of the things you can do with it: Unit converter: type a quantity (e.g. "10 pints" or "5 oz") into the search box to see a list of conversions. Calendar entry: Type an event in text (e.g. "tue 3pm meeting" or "tomorrow 3pm - thursday 5am event @ John's") to add it to your calendar. Translator: Type "translate" then a word or phrase in any language to see translations into languages of your choice.

The issue is that if I have lots of stuff inside it I will get a 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget'
is there any way to use some kind of cache, or add/remove stuff as I move left/right so its not on memory all the time?
Lately it seems that installing or updating an app is about a 50/50 chance of failure. This is both before and after I rooted. Then I installed LithiumMod and see the same thing. It doesn't appear to be any particular apps, and I've noticed it most recently with pandora update, wow armory, angry birds lite, and others. It makes the phone very useless in the instance where I need a new app and can't get it to work.
Going to Settings > Applications > Market > Clear Data seems to work... again, 50/50. Doesn't fix it every time.
Any ideas? I've googled around and most solutions are the "clear data" method, or just "try it again".
I'm trying to get the LiveView plugin template to work but upon import of the project into Eclipse, I already have 13 errors and 2 warnings. I have already downloaded SDK for Android 1.6 which I believe is what it requires. The errors are as follows:

So I have my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 running an unofficial CM11 ROM, and I noticed that battery life seems a little whack, and well Google Keyboard happened to be 2nd place for battery use, and has already downloaded almost 500mb, heck probably 502mb right now. I find that quite insane, and it just keeps going. I feel like this is also the reason why my phone is constantly overly warm. SGH-M919
