HTC EVO 4G :: MLB Subscription - Software Limiting Speeds - Slingplayer Application
Jun 6, 2010
I am hoping some android geniuses might be able to help me out here. 1) How can I watch my MLB.tv subscription on this phone? I was very excited when I saw that android marketplace now had MLB at bat in its marketplace, but hugely disappointed when I found it does not support live games (like that other phone does). When I looked on Mlb.com for an answer it says Android does not support some sort of optimization technique that the other phone does. Its hard for me to believe with the hardware backing this phone that it is not possible. The workaround I used to use on my touchpro 2 was to use the skyfire browser to login and watch it. However when I download skyfire for android and try to watch the game it tells me I need to download flash. Is there a setting I might be missing? 2) Whats up with 4g speed? I know this probably isn't great to be bringing up about the company I work for but I have not seen myself or read of anyone's speedtest on the evo exceeding the 3MB/sec barrier. The speeds I consistently see are outstanding by 3g expectations but not near what I expected of 4g especially since I have seen our Mobile Broadband products consistently exceed those barriers. Is there something with device or software limiting these speeds?........................

I've noticed that lately, my download speeds on my rooted Droid (running BB 0.5 most recently, though this "problem" occurred with BB 0.4 and LFY 1.6 as well) have not been stellar, though my upload speeds seem fine:
Could this be caused by the baseband? Im running C_01.43.01P. Prior to that, I was running (I think) 3E, which came with the phone, and worked fine with BB 0.4 but when the updated one came out I updated it since, hey, it's newer right? Anyway, (1) is this certainly the problem? and (2) if I choose to, how can I safely roll back to the 3E baseband?

Ever since I downloaded the new update (DI18) this morning, I cannot get good download speeds, but my upload speeds have greatly increased. Any ideas? Here is some proof If someone could give me a clue of what the problem could be, that would be great.

Using k9 mail (v4.311) on my android device. I have it set to retrieve at most 500 messages.
However, this does not limit the actual # of messages stored on the device itself. My initial assumption was that after 500 messages were retrieved, on subsequent retrievals, new emails would replace the oldest. This does not seem to be the case. As new messages are received, old ones still remain.
Is there a way to set this software to keep at most a certain # of message - that is, to have new messages REPLACE older ones?
If not, what software/app provides this functionality?

I have a few Android devices and I play around with them quite a bit - flashing ROMs, etc. - and there's one thing that tends to irk me: When setting up my Google account on the device, there's the following checkbox:
Bring apps, settings and other data that you previously backup up to your Google account
Is there any way to limit this to settings and other data? I've used a TON of Android apps, and there are many, free and paid, that I have no desire to use again. I know a more robust solution (Titanium Backup, etc.) is better, but I'm not always running with root and I'm not looking for extremely-fine-grain control. I simply want to skip installing apps I haven't used in months! I know I could simply uninstall the apps, but there are a ton. I'm willing to uncheck the box if I can get a clear understanding of what I'll be missing if I don't sync. I don't have much time to experiment with it at the moment. For example, I don't remember if known wi-fi networks are synced (compare to Windows 8, which does - if I remember correctly - along with tons of other data)

So much for even PAYING a subscription for Hulu. Once again another company goes catering to the #(*$ Iphone fanboys. Sorry, just with the release of Flash for the Droid I figured we would at LEAST get "something" from them rather than a snub.

I've done lots of searching, and I've found partial solutions, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Not sure it even exists, but I'm going to ask! Got a new Droid X last week and love it. Coming from iPhone with iTunes. I listen to podcasts for several hours most nights at work using Bluetooth headphones. My iPhone worked great for this because I would plug it in each day and it would automatically sync the newest podcasts from the list I selected. I'd like to continue using iTunes because it is very nice for auto updating and I have dozens of podcasts subscribed to already. But here's what I need to do:
1) I need a way to sync the newest 3-5 podcasts from Select podcast subscriptions. I've found an Android solution or two that will sync podcasts, but they appear to either sync All podcasts, or unplayed podcasts from All subscriptions. What I want to is what the iPhone can do: sync the most recent 3-5 podcasts from only the ones I select. I would have to delete Dozens of subscriptions to be able to sync them to my Droid if I use the current tools I discovered.
2) I need a way to play the podcasts on the Droid, knowing which ones are unplayed. I've found solutions that will allow me to play the podcasts, but I can't seem to tell which ones I've listened to. On the iPhone, there's a dot that tells you if its unplayed or not. On the Android, there's just a big list of podcasts and there's no way to tell if I listened to it or not (from what I've found).
3) This one is not a requirement, but it would be nice if I could do this wirelessly because I've had a bit of trouble consistently mounting the Droid X to my iMac. I tried TuneSync, which does wireless iTunes syncing, but again, I can't choose individual podcasts to sync, it appears to be all or nothing.
I'm not hopeful that there's a solution for this, so I'm prepared to continue using my deactivated iPhone for listening to podcasts if I have to. It'll just be a pain having to carry both the Droid X and my iPhone with me at work.

I would like to have two apps. One to do the real job and another one to carry the payment on a monthly basis (licensing app). Users must download the licensing app each month from Market. But, should they have to uninstall the last month's app before that. Can an app auto destroy itself (uninstall itself)?

Recently I noticed that the YouTube app is not loading all subscription videos. Before, I was able to continuously scroll through a list of recent videos by those I am subscribed to, but now it only shows maybe 20 or so videos and stops.

The title was quite blunt - but I'm writing this to warn others about paying for this product. I'm sure it is an excellent product - if you can get it to work. I made the mistake of paying for a subscription before I tried it. I have never been able to get it working.
I've been in contact with their support department who (very occasionally) reply to my email messages. I have done as they asked, run debug versions and supplied them with log files. They tell me that the problem is at their server end and they are trying to fix it. Since then (weeks ago) I've heard nothing despite repeat attempts to ask them for an update (and my money back). This morning, my phone told me that an update was available. I eagerly downloaded it in case this fixed the problem - it didn't. Just in case anyone from Wave Secure is reading this, please check support tickets IYR-245894 and BQO-385045 and you'll see how lousy you are at supporting a paying customer. So, although this product may be good, please don't buy it unless you are sure it works first. Also, if you have any problems, please don't hold your breath waiting for support from them as it probably won't happen.

I currently have a Napster To-Go subscription that I use with my Creative Zen, and on my PC at work. But now that I have the Droid, I would much rather stream music to the phone. I currently use Pandora (One) and I like it but I would really like to listen to full albums and make my own playlists; basically listen to whatever I want. I heard that Napster had an App but decided to not to release it, and I will be canceling my subscription as soon as an alternative is found that I can use on the Droid (I never really liked the Napster app anyway). Are there any Subscription Play-anything/Anytime apps?
The following I have looked at:
Napster - No App Release Planned
Rhapsody - Supposed to launch in 2009, Delayed?
Spotify - Supposed to launch in 2010 in US.
Have I missed any alternatives?

I have a Web Service and an Android application that uses this web service. I want to make this application subscription based. The user would subscribe to the service and would be able to use it till their subscription is valid. I understand that to create such an application, we would have to integrate necessary checks in the service and validate a subscription every time it is used on the backend.
But is it possible to do all(well, at least most of) this, on the handset itself? Is it possible to achieve the following in an Android application? Make the application work only for a limited period of time(till the subscription is valid). If yes, how? How to maintain data about the subscription and where?

I installed slingplayer and there was a problem that it would not show up as and app to add on the desktop. called slingox people and they advised to uninstall and reinstall they said that It would be no problem to redownload. I uninstalled then tried to reinstall and system said i had to buy it again, and it had refunded my orignal payment. It took my money again but advised that you can only do this once. Question now is what do you do if you need to reinstall the program, for any reason, ( had to reset phone, phone is lost and replaced by carrier, etc) i tried to backup with my backup and it will not backup slingplayer as it is a copyprotected app. does anyone have a suggestion for this problem?

It says Slingplayer Classic (which I have) isn't supported, but I watched a Youtube video of a guy using one on his EVO, it functioned, just didn't appear to have all the bells and whistles. Going to have to give it a shot and see how it works on the Hero.

SLingplayer is now available for Android phones. It is only available via the Market. I have searched the market and it is not listed. I am currently in UK on three network with an unbranded X10. I know it is available in the UK market as a friend of mine is on Orange and it appears in his market.Anyone know why I can't find it? Does Three have different market and block some apps? I have also tried it via my home Wifi and it still does not find it? Been waiting for this for ages and it's doing my head in not being able to find it

I resurrected my old Slingbox last night because I decided I wanted to try it with my Android phone. I got the Slingbox working again, and went to the marketplace to download Slingplayer for Android. I did so, and paid the $29.99 for the app. When it completed, I ran the app. It gave me the selection screen where you select the slingbox you want to use...I did so. All of the sudden, a screen popped up asking for the reason I wanted to delete the application from my Android device. It had 4 or 5 reasons listed....but no option NOT to remove it. I hit the "back" button. Well, the app is gone. If I go back to the marketplace, I see Slingplayer with the option to "buy" but not that it is installed. If I look at my bank account, it shows the charged. Now I can't figure out what to do. Is there some sort of customer service for Android (google)? I sure haven't seen it. If I got screwed out of a application, I wouldn't worry about it, but this was $30. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I finally rooted my Eris and installed KaosFroyo. All seems ok, had some issues to deal with, but got them figured out. Yesterday, I wanted to connect to my slingplayer, but my app doesn't work. It just starts, then disappears. I never get a screen up. Any ideas, or is there a log somewhere on why it might be crashing or whatever is actually happening.I also tried to move it to the SD card in Manage Applications and it says it is copy protected. Not sure if that has any bearing on this, but thought I'd mention it.I do like the KaosFroyo and really didn't want to start over with a different ROM.
