HTC EVO 4G :: How To Find Out If Having Screen Leakage / Separation?

Jun 14, 2010

As all of you probably know by now, there are problems with some if not most of all of the Evo's screens and responsiveness and whatever. my question is, and i honestly apologize for sounding like a 'noob' but how do i check for the screen leakage and separation issues, and actually any other hardware issue that's been discussed? Thanks for all the input!! i honestly appreciate because if i do in-fact have this problem, i'm just gonna go back to t-mobile and get the samsung galaxy s in july, but i still give evo higher priority

HTC EVO 4G :: How to find out if having screen leakage / separation?

HTC EVO 4G :: Possible Screen Separation

Jul 7, 2010

so i just got my evo 0003 hrdwre ver from a sprint corp store on 7-1-10 ive noticed that the bezel is tight all the way around except where the rocker up is. if i run my finger along the outside of the bezel i can feel that its raised (very small hump) and and is not very tight to the screen like the rest of the phone. is this the beginning of this issue? its almost like there was a casting issue when molding the bezel. should i go ahead and swap it?

HTC EVO 4G :: Fixes For Screen Separation?

Jul 14, 2010

Okay so after scrutinizing my white evo 4g for the first time yesterday I noticed that the bottom corner of the phone has some SLIGHT lift (like .5mm above the bezel) and of course some light leakage, which doesn't bother me too much. However I thought HTC were going to fix this issue in manufacturing starting in late June? Anyway it looks like they didn't.If possible I'd really like to just keep this phone and not swap it. I am hoping the separation doesn't get worse but I wanted to ask on here if anyone knows of a way to just go ahead and fix the issue myself. Like for example would a couple tiny dots of superglue on the corner do the job? Would that hurt the phone? What about the hex screws? I am suspicious about the validity of that fix.Anyway any advice on how to fix this before it (possibly) gets worse

HTC EVO 4G :: Still Seeing Issues With Screen Separation And Battery?

Jul 12, 2010

I'm deciding between what appears to be a common conundrum: Evo or Droid X. I was leaning towards the Droid X, but now I'm not so sure. Verizon and Sprint both have fairy similar coverage in New York (that I'm aware of), but Verizon's plan costs more than sprint's does, which is kind of a large turnoff. The previous deciding factors were issues with HTC's build quality (scree separation) and poor battery life. I wanted to know if these issues are real concerns, or just hyped up complaints that dont accurately reflect the phone.

HTC EVO 4G :: Fixed Light Leaking And Screen Separation With Glue

Jul 7, 2010

I finally decided to do it. I had an idea to use the corner of a sheet of paper dabbed in krazy glue to slide up and down the sides and bottom of my phone while holding the screen down for a while. Surprised, it worked like a champ, and any excess glue that got anywhere on the phone was easily removed with acetone. Unless you have very sturdy hands, I would not advise this.

HTC EVO 4G :: Screen Rotation - Minor Light Leakage And Dead Pixel

Jul 8, 2010

I've had a HTC Evo now for 2/3 weeks, and I love it! But over the last few days it's started to act funny....

What it's doing is lets say I unlock the phone and have it laying on my desk, in the past it would show the screen in portrait orientation....but over the lat 2/3 days its been jumping to landscape and I have to pick up the phone, tilt it to get it back to portrait, and if I lay it back down it will go back to landscape.

This is mainly annoying when checking emails/texts/etc, but also if I am on the train and holding it near my waste, depending on the angle it will bounce back and forth from portrait to landscape!

I originally did a reformat when I bought it, and I am going to do it again shortly to see if that helps....just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it's fixable (and yes i do want auto rotation)....

My phone has a few other problems such as minor light leakage, and a dead pixel (which I was going to look past and keep the phone)...so if this is something wrong with the hardware it would be a pretty good reason to get a replacement within my 30 days....

HTC EVO 4G :: Way To Fix Light Leakage?

Jun 14, 2010

Okay, the light leakage is coming from the LED lights behind the 4 touch buttons on the bottom of the phone, correct? Perhaps someone could write an app for rooted phone (I'm guessing it would have to be rooted) and it would simply turn the LEDs off. I know I don't need lights behind the buttons to know which ones are which in the dark. We have 3 EVOs, mine has the half blown speaker and the other two, which got barely any usage this last week both have the screen problems. So all 3 are going back to Sprint for replacements I guess.

HTC EVO 4G :: Successful Returns For Light Leakage?

Jun 18, 2010

Has anyone tried returning their evo to a sprint store due to light leakage?I noticed it last night for the first time and you can see that the bottom part of the screen is raised about the bezel while the top screen is recessed.I had to exchange my wifes EVO because it went all haywire on us and even though it went haywire with the rep, it wasnt any fun at the sprint store so i'm worried about how hard its going to be to exchange mine for this problem. Are Sprint employees aware of the situation for the most part?

HTC EVO 4G :: Hardware Issue - Slight Light Leakage

Aug 5, 2010

I see so many "issues" here, and not enough praise for this phone. Am I the only one with a perfectly fine phone? The only "issue" I can see myself having is I have slight light leakage on my phone, but I don't even notice it because of the case. I've used it a few times without the case, and it didn't even bother me that much. That is the only hardware "issue" i seem to have. Everything else is perfect.

I am using CM6, and have had nothing but love and praise for Froyo.

Love my EVO, and so glad I made the switch (permanently) to Android. (ex iPhone user)

HTC EVO 4G :: Cure For Light Leakage / Tighten Screws?

Jun 14, 2010

Before everyone tries the hair dryer / clamp method (which seems like a working solution), how about just screwing down the torx screws inside the Evo? This simple step completely solved my light leakage - zero now. I used a T5 driver and now the screen is held super snug to the frame. You can find Torx screw sets for about online: Amazon.com: SE 6 Piece Delux Torx Driver Kit w/Storage Case T5-T10: Automotive.

Samsung Captivate :: Memory Leakage With Handset

Have any of you guys noticed memory leakage with the Captivate? I have been toying a bit with Advanced Task Killer. I notice that when the phone is fresh off a reboot, it has somewhere in the neighboorhood 140-145mb or free memory, but after 10-12 hours of the phone being on it down to the 60s. At this point the UI lag is much more prevalent.I don't mind rebooting the phone once or twice a day, but I was wondering if there are any other alternatives

Motorola Droid X :: How To Stop Light Leakage Around Volume Buttons?

Jul 22, 2010

I have been loving my new X and have experienced zero issues with it until tonight. I noticed that there's light leakage around the volume buttons, where the top and bottom components connect. As I trace around the edges, everywhere seems to fine except at that one connection point. Now I'm really concerned that my phone has a physical defect and may need to be exchanged. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I be concerned and get an exchange? I'm really bummed that my phone may have a problem.

HTC Droid Eris :: Always Enable Mobile Data Function Causes Data Leakage?

Aug 21, 2010

Can anyone help explain what this does? I did a small search around the internet, and it came up with just about nothing. My first question is: I turned mobile data off, and yet, during the night, I was charged for data, so something leaked.Personally, I thought if this was because of this particular function. But maybe it was something else. So, I turned it off, but around the forums for other androids people seem to think that syncing doesn't work as well with this disabled.Does anybody know what might have happened? And could this function have been the thing that caused the leak. The leak, was actually for only 50 KB or so, but because I'm on Page Plus, it caused me to go under the required balance to refill of $29.95 and caused my plan to lapse. It's important for me for this not to happen again. Can anyone give any tips?

ADB To Find And Recover Files From D4 With Dead Screen?

Mar 19, 2014

I think the connection between the body and screen broke. Nothing shows on the screen, and there's no touch input available. But the device is still able to power on, reboot, and is recognizable from my Windows PC. I'd made a fairly recent nandroid backup, so I'm not in an emergency phase, but there are some files and photos I'd still like to try to recover from the broken device. Basically just files on the internal SD card. I was rooted, running stock Android on the latest OTA.

I'm not very experienced with ADB, but have started to give that a shot. I've tried various ls commands, but am stuck at a point where I get an error. Using a console (Console2), I ran ADB, then used this command:

Code:
adb shell ls -R /storage/sdcard0/
I got this error:

Code:/storage/sdcard0/: opendir failed, Permission denied

I'm not sure if this error is because I didn't open shell with root access. But when doing that, I run into other trouble because I'm not familiar with the linux-style commands. Another small issue I've bumped into is that when running the ls command on large file trees, the results are cut off by the console's 9999 line buffer.pull all the data from the entire internal SD card?

Android :: How To Find Out Screen Status Active / Dark?

May 28, 2009

I've dug through the documentation but couldn't find a call that would fit: Is there a way to find out the screen status (Active/dark)?I've got an app that implements the relevant data processing and backend server connectivity through a Service that I keep running on a reduced activity level when the user puts the device to sleep (using end button), or when the screen timeout hits. In the app code, I can follow this status change, because it triggers calls to overloaded onStop() and onPause() methods of the app's subclassed Activity. This way, I control active/reduced ("sleep") activity levels of that Service. Everything's cool and dandy in this scenario.Enter an AppWidget that's using this Service in a similar fashion, with functionality implemented in a subclass of AppWidgetProvider. This changes the game - I have found no way to determine when to set the Service to the reduced ("sleep") activity level from that point. The app's Activity has long paused, and I keep the Service at active level, as the widget needs updates from the Service similar to what the Activity needs when in front. With the AppWidget on the home screen, I want, and should (re: battery life), drop the Service's activity level when the device enters sleep mode. The most elegant way to handle this would be to detect whether the screen is dark, right inside the Service.

Android :: Display Images On Demand Inside A Listview / Find Out List Item Is On Screen?

Oct 31, 2010

I am building a android aplication which will be consuming a json file from the internet. This json file contains a list of news from a particular website. Each json object contains information such like title, summary, descripition and web links for the news thumbnail and the original image.

I will be displaying in a listview three information: the news thumbnail, the title and the summary. Here resides my problem. I dont want to load all thumbnails from the internet if they wont be displayed. What I am trying to say is that why download a thumbnail from the 30th news if the user wont scroll down the image. So, i will, initially only download the thumnails from those news that are being displayed in the screen and when the user scrolls down to see more news, as soon as the list item appers to the screen i want to download the image and then display.

Is there a way to achieve this? Is it possible to find out if the list item is on the screen? I have been searching all over the internet for a solution for this but i am running out of ideas.

Android :: Home Screen Widget Size In Normal Screen And Largest Screen

Mar 31, 2010

I am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels. Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?

HTC EVO 4G :: Way To Find App Version?

Sep 26, 2010

Found myself needing to compare old and new app versions on my EVO but couldn't find a quick way. I was hoping there might be an alternative to the methods I used. I have a TON of apps installed and aTrackDog is slow to generate the information. Plus you then have to view the exported file separately from the app used to create the file. App List puts together a list quickly but rarely exports the version info. And I know that one can get app version info from Manage Applications on the phone but that too is slow to generate the information. Is there a FAST and easy way to see the version of the app? Would be nice to able to see something right from the App Drawer but I don't see any option other than the Manage Applications section of the phone and having to wait.
