View 14 RepliesHow can I turn off "Cell Standby"
Battery used by cell radio?
Does this just mean I am in a bad cell zone? This is my reading at home and it is the top battery usage on the chart, followed by wifi at 24% (on because I am home), and phone idle at 23%.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI know about the 50% without service bug and my phone has it, but I did the airplane trick and I don't have any time without service anymore, but I still have a high amount of time from cell standby. Is there a way to get rid of it? Or is my phone still having a problem? My phone battery will only last about 12 hours, so my battery life has gone up
View 9 Replies View RelatedThere has been almost no variation from that. Every now and then Display or Wi-Fi would show up as about 2% each, then disappear after a while. That's all.Last night my battery reached 10%, I turned off the power, charged it overnight for 12 hours, unplugged it, and turned the power back on. I noticed two things:
1. My Battery Use list changed drastically. I assume this is actually a better representation of what the list should look like than what I had been seeing for two weeks, but the other thing I noticed was
2. My battery was draining a lot faster than it ever had during the previous two weeks, even during idle periods. My battery had consistently been draining at around 1% per hour idle until today. Now I'm seeing it drop 5% in LESS than an hour while idle (idle meaning the screen shuts off and I don't use it).
So my question is, what do Cell Standby and Phone Idle mean? Previously they had both been 2% and my idle battery use was excellent. But today they both shot up to the 20-30% range and I'm thinking this may account for the excessive battery drain even while the phone is sleeping. Why would these two things be so high? Nothing changed between yesterday and today except that I turned off the phone and turned it back on. I almost feel like I messed something up by simply turning it off!
I charge my evo while I'm sleeping. Last night I went to sleep with it at 100% and woke up 10 hours later to find that I had lost 50%. Battery indicator told me that it was 48% cell standby and 48% phone idle and only 2% Android system. Is this usual? I didn't know just leaving my phone on the table would kill so much.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm trying to figure out the consumption issues with my battery and cell standby. it is currently responsible for 39% which is at the top of the list just above phone idle. what really concerns me though is my time without a signal is 49%!! but everytime i look at my phone it has 3bars! how can this be? and im assuming this is whats killing my battery? it should be noted that i dont think i have the "bug" others seemed to have.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if anyone had the same issue as I do, with about 44% of my battery use coming from the notorious call standby.
I heard some speculation that this is akin to the issue with the Eris 2.1, so it would be solved by the Airplane Mode trick, but I have not found any results favoring that remedy.
What is the difference between the two?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI checked to see if I have the cell standby 50% bug and I do. My up time is 11:34:50, my awake time is 3:47:48, but if I look at the cell standby it says time on 14:42:16. How can the cell standby thing be a longer time than my phone has been on? I did the leak 2 days ago, so it's not showing that time or anything.
View 17 Replies View RelatedIs it normal to have phone idle around 31% and cell standby around 34%?

Not sure if many of you have been following threads out there about very high data usage on standby - my experience.I went from using 5mb - 10mb a day to 100mb/day.Unbelieveable.I tried searching for everything I could to figure it out - all the way from Location Setting swithed on to Facebook having a Calendar sync'ing glitch where it perpetually sync'd - never stopped.Hence racked up Mb's.The problem, I believe, for my phone was the Gmail constantly sync'ing. I guess i have a few emails with large attachments - 3-5mbs. I thought once it sync'd it to my phone, it would not reload them. I had sync on every hour - so every hour - 5mbs were used.Needless to say, i have stopped the auto sync of my Gmail its on manual now, and better yet i will just be using IMAP instead of Push email, and the problem has been solved.
I am now back to normal use of 5mbs per day 10mb on the high side. And that is with Twitter constant, internet, Push to Talk, and World War game to name a few.If you dont follow your data usage, i highly recommend you do. There are horror stories out there of people having to pay $1000 extra. I will be owing prob an extra $50.00 or more due to this issue.(In Canada here on Bell Carrier monthly limit is 500mb) I recommend downloading 3G watchdog - really good at monitoring data.Anyway, just wanted to share this story, as I dont think there has been an HTC Legend thread. And that is the phone I have.
I tried doing the Airplane trick...I am not sure this is the 50% issue others have mentioned because when I go to view my battery statistics, it doesn't show the 2 lines of information like it did before (i.e, 50%), but my phone idle and cell standby are Both hanging around 36%...seems kind of high in my opinion.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust yesterday my phone was getting more than 14+ hours of battery. Now it's draining really quickly even when I'm not using it (I left it on while I was asleep). It's not facebook because I already downloading the fix and rebooted. My "time without signal" is 0% so I don't think that's the problem. I did download Quickpedia yesterday but a quick search tells me that's not the problem either.
The only other thing I did differently was switch from ADW to LauncherPro yesterday, but if that was draining the battery wouldn't it be under Android System and not standby or idle? Regardless, I switched back to ADW just to see if that works
I recently purchased this Tablet cum Phone Device (Asus Fonepad) in India. I found this device very impressive with decent battery backup along with great standby time. Everything was allright. In morning I found heavy battery draining during standby.
Next day I uninstalled that Black market application and Uninstalled Exdialer with all downloaded themes. I got full signals and everything was working fine. But the Battery Drain in standby remain same. I observed the situation till next two days. I searched to forums and did following things:
1. I made factory reset to my fonepad. which was haviing 4.1.2 Android after updating through OTA. Which remains same after Reset.
2. I didnt install any other applation
3. I turned of all battery comsuming services like GPS/ Location reporting/ Data/ Wifi/ Uninstalled Google Play Service Updates etc
4. Installed Wakelock detector, Better Battery Stats etc All are showing that phone goes in deep sleep no prblem but Wakelock detector show that Cell Radio wakes up so much time when phone is on sleep mode. Default Battery monitor of Android Showing "Mobile Data" as most battery comsumer.
One thing I want to mention here the device is supportive to mini sim only. I was not having mini sim so I went to market and mobile shop keeper cutted my Sim to adjust into that slot and it woked. I was using same sim from Day first. It's Vodafone INDIA.
I have not rooted nor flashed anything from my fonepad. I am reached to the conclusion that There is some problem with Exdialer installation and applying new/old theme combination to it which made me device with no signal. And now The Cell Radio has been changed which is attempting to achive something in standby mode. Which is causing heavy battery Drain. Standby time is reduced to almost 15-16 Hrous
I've noticed a few people have complained about high standby data usage.. ie when you leave the phone on a desk, with nothing streaming, you still manage to use up 1-2mb per hour (as I was!). This is a big problem for people moving from something like a blackberry where it was hard to use up a lot of data even if you tried.I tried disabling as much as possible to see what was causing the problem (NetSentry was great for tracking usage but of course can't tell you which programs/services are using it up), and after exhausting all ideas I tried deleting the two non-GMail email accounts I had. On was set up as push Exchange, and the other a 15-minute polling POP account. I have to assume it was the Exchange that was the problem, but I can't be sure. In any case, my usage dropped from about 4MB over 3 hours to about 12kB for the last 3 hours since I disabled the accounts. In conclusion, email can be more of a problem than you think! I'm going to forward my other accounts through my GMail to see if that works better.
View 43 Replies View RelatedSo my app works well in the emulator in various run configurations and on the device when the device is connected to WiFi. But when I switch off the WiFi on the device, the code that goes out to the network takes forever and then times out (i.e. doesn't return any data). Other people have reported this as well. I also notice that no data is going out or coming in when I look at the little up and down arrows on the 3G icon in the status bar on the G1. I am assuming that the Java code I am using should work for both types of connections, right? I mean, do I need to account for the fact that cell data network is very slow with high latencies i.e. pre-cache my data etc?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I read these forums like every day for 2 months (nearly drove my wife insane!) leading up to the release of the X. Stood in line and bought one in the store on the 15th. Had nothing but iPhones until now - loving my DroidX!
BUT
As of right now my battery is down to 60% after having been unplugged (when I unplugged I was at 100%) for 1hr 46m 9s!
It shows display at 93% and cell standby at 7%.
I'm running smart battery mode, auto screen brightness, not that many widgets, and I rooted it and have autokiller running on Aggressive.
Do I just have a bad battery? And if so will Verizon (or Moto) give me a new one?
I'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths.I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well.It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers.I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy speaker buzzes all the time on my phone (not the speaker phone - it works fine). It's not a network buzz, it's a vibration buzz of the metal or speaker. The center camera is also off-center a little bit, which makes me think something up there is off-center, misglued or loose.
We have two other evos and neither of them buzz on the same call. I called the Sprint Nav Voice Address thing from all 3 phones since that would be the exact same voice and words every time. Only mine buzzes. The other two don't have the camera problem either.

If anyone knows how, please let me know.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen my phone goes into standby (is that the same as sleep mode, BTW?) is it still connected tothe internet ? If not is there a setting that will automatically disable it (I don't mind manually re-connecting it again)?
I don't have anything auto-synching, so I don't need to be connected while I'm not actually using it. (Just thinking of ways of saving valuable juice )
I usually charge my phone before I go to bed and wake up to it in the morning somewhere between 93% and 97% battery left.
This morning when I woke up I was at 75%. I checked the battery usage history and the "Dialer" used 92% of battery since unplugged.
Just got myself a new HTC Incredible. It's my first Android phone, and hell my first smartphone at all, and I'm loving it.One aspect that's kind of bugging me, on previous phones I had, it was very easy to glance at the phone to see what time it is.With the Incredible, the screen shuts off completely when it goes into standby, and I have to press the top button to see the clock. It's not the worst thing in the world, but does anyone know of an app out there that can make standby mode display a clock instead?
View 2 Replies View Relatedive seen alot of posts in some threads with people thinking official standby numbers are done in airplane mode. i have some proof that says otherwise. sry about the blur took them with my evo in bad light
8 days from 100% to 85%. this is just a post about official standby numbers are not done in airplane mode, otherwise they would show way higher numbers
i'm programming an app that reads sensors values, and I need that it continue saving data while the phone goes standby (the screen go black after 1 minute).
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got my Nexus One yesterday, and I'm loving it! My only concern is the battery life meter is telling CELL STANDBY 67%?? When you click on it, it says time without signal 50% and then it says thats whats causing battery consumption.
Before I go on, I have no issues with 3G, been getting a solid signal since I got the phone yesterday, just a little confused on what to do? Shouldn't standby SAVE battery?
Every now and then when I press the power button to put my Incredible to standby and/or after the 1 minute timeout. The screen turns off as usual but sometimes the LEDs for the buttons stay lit. Sometimes if left alone long enough they will turn off on their own, but most of the time they stay on till I bring the phone out of standby and then put it back into standby. Is anyone else getting this? Is there a way to fix it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is probably a really dumb question but my battery life info says that the android system is using 96% of my battery and standby and idle are both using only 2%. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Should my standby time be higher? Or is it better that it is a low number when it is idle/on standby. First smartphone ever here and I just don't know if that is good for my battery or not.
