HTC Incredible :: LEDs Stay ON At Standby
Jun 27, 2010
Every now and then when I press the power button to put my Incredible to standby and/or after the 1 minute timeout. The screen turns off as usual but sometimes the LEDs for the buttons stay lit. Sometimes if left alone long enough they will turn off on their own, but most of the time they stay on till I bring the phone out of standby and then put it back into standby. Is anyone else getting this? Is there a way to fix it?

Has anyone had any issues leaving the LEDs on (using Lampu) as far as heat from the phone? I can assume there was a reason that HTC didnt allow the LEDs to be on for video recording. Not sure if its just current draw or possible heat/damage to the driver circuit for the LEDs.

This is probably a really dumb question but my battery life info says that the android system is using 96% of my battery and standby and idle are both using only 2%. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Should my standby time be higher? Or is it better that it is a low number when it is idle/on standby. First smartphone ever here and I just don't know if that is good for my battery or not.

I was just wondering if anyone had the same issue as I do, with about 44% of my battery use coming from the notorious call standby.
I heard some speculation that this is akin to the issue with the Eris 2.1, so it would be solved by the Airplane Mode trick, but I have not found any results favoring that remedy.

For some reason, which I can't figure out yet, when I go to Settings -> About -> Battery and look at usage, my cell standby is always highest which is fine but Bluetooth is always #2! I'm talking on average it's always 25% or close to that. This seems odd because it's just on, not connected to anything. If I turn off Bluetooth it immediately drops (obviously) so it just seems that for some reason the Bluetooth on this phone eats battery life like no tomorrow. What's stranger is WiFi (which I leave on 24/7) hardly goes above 10%.Very odd. Anybody notice the same? I guess I just have to get into habit of turning off BT when I'm not using it.

Just yesterday my phone was getting more than 14+ hours of battery. Now it's draining really quickly even when I'm not using it (I left it on while I was asleep). It's not facebook because I already downloading the fix and rebooted. My "time without signal" is 0% so I don't think that's the problem. I did download Quickpedia yesterday but a quick search tells me that's not the problem either.
The only other thing I did differently was switch from ADW to LauncherPro yesterday, but if that was draining the battery wouldn't it be under Android System and not standby or idle? Regardless, I switched back to ADW just to see if that works

How do I get it to stay up so my phone doesn't get so slow? I know turning the phone off & on takes care of it, but who wants to do that all day long?!
My phone just gets so sluggish and I can't stand it. I wish it would stay snappy all the time.

For some weird reason, the GPS on/off button won't stay put. I'll hit it to turn it off and it turns itself back on again. It takes two or three turns to get it to stay off. Any suggestions?

looking forward to getting my first android. I currently have an LG Dare with verizon and my contract isn't up until October. So I'm due for an upgrade and can get the Incredible whenever I want. I have been reading up on the Evo (still don't know a lot, but I do know some of the differences between the phones) and can't decide if the Evo is worth getting to pay $80 for ETF.I just started working at Walmart so I can get a 20% discount at Verizon, not sure on Sprint as of now, I live Springfield, MO (3rd largest city in MO) Sprints site says it has "best" coverage, but I don't see 4G being in the picture for a while.Should I stay with Verizon and get the incredible and just get a 4g phone next year? or make the leap to my 3rd carrier in 6 years?

This is only a problem when I make calls which require entering a number to select an option(i.e., press 1 for...).I know the screen times out(?) when on calls normally and that it will light up again when it senses the call has ended, but if I have to see the keyboard to press a number to make a selection, pressing the power button to bring it up usually takes too long. By the time I get the screen up and press a button, the system on the other end doesn't recognize it. OR, I'll press the power button and it won't come up at all.

Cut a small 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch square of black tape and place it over the light sensor in the upper left corner just to the left of the verizon logo and the soft key lights stay on when the screens on and they turn off when you turn the screen off. Works perfectly and really doesn't look that bad.

I would like the screen to stay on (on whatever brightness it's normally set at) when connected to external power. I've found the Settings/Applications/Development "Stay Awake" checkbox, but the screen still dims down after 30 seconds, though it doesn't go completely off.Is there a way to keep the screen on?All the WinMo phones I had had two separate profiles one for on battery and one for when on a charger, and you could set the screen brightness and timeout independently for each power profile. The reason for this is that I have a dashmount cradle of sorts that I use, and I generally put the phone in it and plug it in when I'm driving any sort of distance. I do things like look at the phone signal, see if new mail comes in, etc. while driving, and it's just reassuring to look down at the phone and see it doing something without having to hit the power button.

I click on the HTC clock, then the little moon button to put it into bedside mode. From what I recall the clock used to move around the screen to different places but would always remain on.Now after about 15 seconds the screen shuts off and I have to unlock it again. Whereas before the screen would always be on and wherever I would touch it would wake up without having to unlock it again. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?

This is not a perfect solution but it does give a work around to the fact that, even though you can set the phone to not have the screen shut off when plugged in, you still have the problem of it dimming to lowest setting. Anyway, what I did to fix this was to download a program on the app store called keep screen. It gives you the option to make it so that the screen doesn't time out or dim for certain apps. What I did was just go in and select all apps and tell it to not dim on any of them.
Then on the front page of this app there is a button to "start/stop service" I use this button like a toggle. If my phone is plugged in I toggle that button and toggle it off when I unplug. It is not a perfect solution and requires manually doing the toggling but it's the best solution I have found to keep the screen and brightness up when my phone is plugged in. Anyway, just thought I would share in case anyone else was looking for a solution for this. Also, if anyone has found a better way of doing this i would love to hear it.

At the moment the LEDs that light up the keyboard of the G1 (HTC Dream) are very quick to turn off, I time it at six seconds. This is a pain when using the phone in the dark as you must press a button in order to turn the lights back on if you look away even for a very short time. Since my G1 is rooted I have access to the system files and when using adb to open a shell (adb shell) to the USB connected phone I can set the brightness file to a positive value using echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness. This keeps the keyboard on, until the screen is set to turn off (two minutes on my phone). When I attempt the same using a Terminal Emulator or writing a simple app which should execute the same it does nothing despite both having root access. Why is this?

I am the developer of a heavily used application (over 110.000 active installs) and got one problem with the Android platform. One of the features in my application uses the normal way of the Android SDK to display a LED notification with a selectable color. The color can be set by ledARGB flag in http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Notification.html. This had been working with the emulator, the HTC G1 and the HTC Magic (myTouch) but now users starting to report that the HTC Hero does not show up different colors. (although the charging LED for the HTC Hero is orange and the normal notification color is green). The same thing occurs for setting a vibrate pattern. (flag -> vibrate in http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Notification.html) This does not work on the HTC Hero US. (it does work on the EU/GSM version of the Hero).....

I successfully followed the instructions to upgrade to Froyo and got the Root done. I also updated my radio to the new one. Before I upgraded from 2.1 I could play a song using the media player and then open up the camcorder and take a video and the music would keep playing in the background as kind of the background music for whatever I was recording. After the update to Froyo now when I have a song playing and I open up the camcorder, the music stops.
Now I figure that this is the way that most of you guys want it. But I was having one hell of a time playing some Rolling Stones and having my girlfriend lipsync to the entire thing. We were making some great and funny videos. So my question is, is there any way to get the music player to stay on. Is anyone aware of any settings there are for this. I am probably going to roll back to 2.1 anyway and wait for the official OTA, but I figure this won't work the way that I want it to when it comes out officially either.

So I know Gmail always comes up as a green LED on my Droid, and that's fine. Also, I use Handcent SMS, and I can change the color of notification on that, so I have it set to pink (seemed like fun at the time.) I'd love an app that would let me choose the colors of other notification LEDs. Anyone know of one like that? I tried using the Market to search for notification and LED, but didn't find anything.

I'm still pretty new to using Android, but I decided that my first application would be a simple flashlight app for my new Incredible. Unfortunately, it seems to be more difficult than I had originally thought.
It seems that there's no way to access the LEDs through the SDK, at least not without a bunch of weird hacks to make the phone pretend that it's taking a picture. Even then, I can only get the LEDs to turn on. They only turn off if the phone is put on hold, and doing so breaks all camera-related apps until the phone is rebooted.
So, I was wondering if accessing the LEDs through the NDK was possible, or if there was any other camera-related APIs that would seem to do what I want.
I've looked at other code for other flashlights, so it looks like it's a hardware-based problem. I figured I'd give up because it doesn't appear to be possible, but I thought I should ask here first on the off-chance somebody knows something that I don't.

Is there any program or other way do turn off the screen LEDs for example when docked at night? LEDs Hack from the market has an option for Hero with Froyo. I emailed the developer, but didnt know if anyone here had any solutions. I'm running KF v35-1 btw. I was looking at replacing my clock on my bedside table with a dock that would hold the phone upright so I could see the time. I can keep the display on, but wanted the bright lights on the front off. With the program below, I can turn off all LEDs except the white ones behind the home, menu, back and search keys. I tried all the different phones. One of the first times I tried it, the LEDs all went out and would not come back on. Did a reboot and dalvk wipe which restored the LEDs. I went back through all the devices again and could not repeat the result of getting all lights out. The Hero version can stop all LEDs except the leds i mentioned.

I've seen it discussed in a thread somewhere but can't find it. Is anyone working on an app to use the menu buttons as an LED notification? The moment for me would be close to perfect if there was some way to have lights for notification. If I were a programmer I would be working my buns off to write this app.
