HTC EVO 4G :: Can't Get YAHOO EMAIL To Work With CM6 RC1
Jul 30, 2010
One problem is that when I go into the Email app and try to access my Yahoo.com email, it says that my username and password are not recognized. Never had this problem with v2.1. Does Froyo email require Yahoo Plus or something? Hope not. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to flash something else?

I remembered from my G1 days a way to sync the E-Mail app up to Yahoo's free (not PoP3) servers so I gave it try on my new BH2 and it works just fine:Here are the steps:
1. Enter Yahoo ID and Password (hint, just use your "username", not the whole joeblow@yahoo.com
2. Select Manual Setup
3. Setup IMAP
4. Incoming server is imap.mail.yahoo.com
5. Port is 143
6. Security Type is "TLS (if available)"
7. Leave IMAP path prefix blank
8. Hit next
9. SMTP Server is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
10. Port is 25
11. Security is again TLS (if available)
12. Check Require sign-in
13. Verify username and password
14. enjoy
To Sync up, you CANNOT be on WiFi (dunno why, maybe Yahoo has a deal with T-Mobile?).One other note: if after rechecking all your settings and it still says "invalid username/password" try going onto your Yahoo Account and change your "Location" to ASIA ! Weird I know, but for some reason, some people can't get this to work with US-English as their Yahoo Locale (not talking about your phone's settings here, all on Yahoo site end!).

Anyone notice that new emails take 2-3 minutes to show up? I thought it was supposed to be instant?Yahoo email doesn't update until you open the email app.

I just pulled the battery to do a reset last night after a lockup and today I'm getting notifications everytime I get a new email. it never used to do this and i figured it was just cause I didn't use the gmail. now I'm thinking that it just might be one of the background tasks that I was always killing. I recently switched to home++ and I didn't use the built in task killer all day. so I guess my question is, does anyone know which background task would control this so I don't kill it? also, is there a place to go in the settings to change the led color for email alerts?

I set up my yahoo mail and I saw that there are options to select how often do I want my email pulled. I was just wondering if there is a way to get my yahoo email instantly (push email) so i can get the email on my phone the moment I receive it (just like gmail)

I've seen various threads about IMAP settings to use for Yahoo email, but it wasn't clear from most of the posts I read whether it was referring to free Yahoo email or a Yahoo-based account associated with home high speed internet. Some gave parameters not using SSL encryption, and I know that would not work for me, but some used very similar setup to what I currently use on my Palm Pre (which uses an IMAP server with "palm" at the beginning of the name, so I don't know if there's a "secret handshake" between the Pre and the server that disallows access via other devices).
I have AT&T DSL (swbell domain email) and am strongly considering dumping my Pre for an EVO, but IMAP access to my swbell account is a must-have. I have a gmail account, but I'm pretty well-established with the swbell account, and don't want to deal with auto-forwarding. So has anyone successfully set up IMAP access to an AT&T/Yahoo email account? I tried using an IMAP server and parameters I found here through Windows Live Mail, but I keep getting some sort of certificate error claiming my system doesn't support something the server is expecting. I have tried in the past with Thunderbird as well using the palm IMAP server, and never succeeded with that either. So I'm a little hesitant to take the plunge until I have a high level of confidence it'll work. Plus I'm waiting for the Android version of HanDBase anyway, since I use that via Classic on my Pre. I don't mind buying an email client if the standard android client doesn't support it. I may do that anyway if there are better ones out there.

Ive had my Evo for a couple of months now and everything worked fine. About 3 weeks ago, i stopped recieving email on my yahoo account. I can still send them from my phone, but not get any new ones. Gmail still works fine. I went to sprint and they played with all my settings, and did a hard reboot on my phone, still no fix.

I finally got a new LG eve phone due to software issues
I got my gmail acct setup and my music finally figured out and working.
But I cannot for the life of me get yahoo.ca to setup my email through them. I totally would rather use that email for my regular everyday emailing instead of gmail.

Last Friday my Yahoo email stopped working. On that day I did:
1. I said yes to the upgrade on Friday
2. Set up and turned wi-fi on
3. Turned the location feature on
After Yahoo email stopped working I deleted the account from EVO and set up Yahoo email again. It downloaded the emails for the last two weeks but it stopped downloading messages on 7/01/10 the last "good" day before the update I accepted.

On Froyo, you have to manually format Yahoo Mail a bit differently to make it work:
imap.mail.yahoo.com
smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
This has been working for me for weeks now but suddenly it is giving me "incorrect username or password" error.

I searched the settings and couldn't find a way to make url's clickable. I'm wondering if that is the way the Yahoo Email client is intended and if so, I'm not a fan.

I just got the Hero today, and have been trying all day to set up my email but nothing has worked.I've tried my yahoo (the account I prefer) and gmail, but neither work. I keep getting msgs from "incorrect user/password" to "mail server not responding".I've been searching online for a few hrs now trying everything and nothing helps.when I activated the phone the guy said that it would be a while before things like mms would be working; so would it take a while for the email to link up as well?

Today for some reason, I can't access my Yahoo! email. I've been reading and replying fine until now. I don't know if I accidentally changed a preference or what but if I did, can someone help me set it back. The pop-up message I get now when I try to open a message in Yahoo! email says "complete action using..." and gives me the option to "compose" or "mail". I've tried both but "compose" starts a new mail message to verizon wireless, and clicking on "mail" takes me to a new screen asking me to "Choose a mail provider".

This has been discussed elsewhere, but no solutions have been posted and some of the advice is flat wrong.
I crowdsourced this problem on my own forum/twitter, and this is what I've learned so far.
1. Connecting to Yahoo Mail is a simple procedure, and following the imap4/smtp directions here will work.
1b. However, step 1 (enter your username) MUST be with x@yahoo.com, not just X. The default the android offers will fail.
1c. If it doesn't load, or the folders don't load, power down and then back up. For people who find it "hangs" (little circle at top left keeps spinning)-- delete the account off of the android and set it back up.
I have tried this on literally dozens of phones, it works just fine.
But:
2. The multiple copies in the sent folder is a serious problem that I cannot fix. TURNING OFF THE SENT FOLDER ON YAHOO DOES NOT WORK-- and this is what amazes me; the Android is somehow able to override Yahoo mail and force copies into the sent box. If you send an email from your desktop, nothing is saved; but sent off the Android and the copies begin.
2b. The copies are generated each time the Android connects to Yahoo to check for mail (this is pull, not push), and whenever you send an email, and whenever you hit refresh. It seems to do it two copies at a time (why?)-- so if I send mail A, it generates two copies. When I send mail B, it generates 2 more copies of A, and 2 copies of B. When I send mail C, then we're up to 6 As, 4 Bs, 2 Cs, etc...

I switched phones a couple of days ago and am trying to reload all of the apps/widgets I had on my other Motorla Droid. I can not find the yahoo email app/widget anywhere. Nothing on the market, I've found nothing on the internet about it being taken off. Does anyone have any information on where I can find it? I use Yahoo a lot for personal email. It was not through the browser it was definitely an app/widget (can't remember which one)

I have an unlocked Nexus One. I am trying to setup my personal yahoo email over WiFi, but no luck so far. Keying in user name and password fails. I think the cnet review complained about this as well. Any ideas anyone?Interestingly enough, I have a bizmail pop account from Yahoo that I could easily setup.
