Here's a general question... I have an evo and there are apps like the htc gallery where smoothness of the animation are just as good as the iphones.
But why doesn't the browser zoom and scroll as nice as the iphone browser? Don't we have enough horsepower to match the quality as the iphone rendering?

Originally this was posted in the Velocity ROM thread but I'm sure most Ally ROMs will be able to benefit from these fixes:
The following will enable JIT and tweak your windowsmgr to allow for smoother scrolling. Using ADB pull your build.prop:
abd pull /system/build.prop
add this line to the end of the file:
windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec=60
This will enable smoother scrolling.
Next, find the following line to enable jit:
#dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
and uncomment it by removing the # before it
Save the file and push back to /system/build.prop
reboot and your phone should be a little more responsive
I was having some permission denied errors when pushing the build.prop back via adb, so here's what i did:
(this part is optional, if your phone pushes the build.prop fine, then don't worry about this)
adb shell
su
mount -t refs -o remount,rw /dev/stl5 /system
cd sdcard
busybox cp -R build.prop /system
mount -t rfs -o remount,ro /dev/stl5 /system
sync
reboot
**to those having trouble w/ the busybox command, make sure the build.prop is in the sd card, the sd card is not mounted in the computer, and you are in the adb shell of the phone
also, make sure you are cd into /sdcard/ and can see build.prop in the root of your sdcard with ls then try to
busybox cp -R build.prop /system
alternatively if that doesnt work maybe try adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
Tested on Velocity 0.1.1 but may work with other ROMs.
So everything is perfect about my Eris except that the scroll-ball doesn't scroll left anymore. This isn't the first time the problem came up. My last Eris had the same problem. It scrolls in every direction except which is kinda annoying as I use it alot more than I thought I would. Should I take it up with Verizon? It isn't a life or death situation but it makes editing sentences in texts a pain.

this works without a glitch in every browser on all non mobile platforms. However... when this is implemented on iPhone (Safari) or Android (webkit) the div gets filled up with the text but no scrollbar is generated when the text runs past the height of the div and the user can't "push" the content down either. So effectively overflow is always "hidden" no matter what. I'm curious if there's some alternative approach that I'm overlooking or if this is just a bug I have no way to get around at the moment.
The web-site i'm working on is specially designed for Android. The user will not benefit from Android build-in zoom buttons. On the contrary they make a mess. How can i switch them off?

There is a video floating around from The Street TV where the "reviewer" says the DX doesn't do this.I really like this feature (Evo does this quite well) and is one of my pet peeves with browsing on my Ipod Touch.Does anyone know for sure whether DX does or doesn't have this capability?I asked the guy who did the AC benchmark test and he said that the DX does do this. Someone else said that it's a setting in the browser. Others are saying that it doesn't do it.Seems like such a basic feature that I can't imagine a phone like the DX would not be able to do this.

View 29 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to use a web interface (java from what I can tell) to stream my tv to my phone. Everything works great, except the channel list is it's own frame, and I cant scroll it. I can only see the first 15 out of 100 channels. I've searched google and cant find any information about this. I've also tried Skyfire and Dolphin, but with no luck. Does anyone know a workaround to scroll within a frame? The iphone and ipad can scroll within a frame by using two fingers in stead of one. There must be a workaround for android.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally got fed up today with the phone being laggier than ever before. i dunno what was wrong. i wasn't using any home app. no streaming widgets on the home screen. no gps on, no wifi. no cpu intensive apps running in the background. nothing i had should really be lagging the phone in any way. but it would still get laggy for no reason sometimes. and it happens randomly. scrolling through menus. lag. swiping through screens. lag. pressing drawer tab. lag. scrolling through apps. lag. and its random. sometimes its smooth but other times its just incredibly frustrating. it gets to the point where i think the phone just crashed.
So i figured it must be these apps i installed. but they weren't even running in the background so it made no sense. but i decided to uninstall them anyway. i decided to just uninstall all the games and apps that i dont play or use. ended up uninstalling about 15 dif things. can't remember specific ones. but after i did the uninstalls, i scrolled/swiped around and it seemed to be much smoother!! checked the browser and engadget and this site seemed to scroll much smoother. so i restarted my phone to really clean it all out just in case, and it really does seem like the browser lag was gone!
I used the built in android uninstaller in the applications menu to uninstall. uninstalled a bunch of sound boards and free games. not sure what app was the culprit. but i do remember having some locale sync plugin still installed even though i didnt have locale installed anymore. also uninstalled some kinda OI plugin? a plugin for OI? i also uninstalled Hi AIM. these seemed to be the most significant ones to me and what i saw as the most likely culprits. wish i had documented all my steps now because this has definitely fixed the lag problem for me. screens swipe super smooth now, menus scroll with no hiccups. browser scrolling speed is back to the way it was before 2.0.1.
I just wanted to test how to move on a touchscreen the slider of a scroll bar, but big surprise, there is no scroll bar. I have defined a DIV with overflow:auto This means when the content of the DIV is greater than the DIV defined with style width and height, there should be scroll bars added to the DIV. But at this test page the left menu is larger than the DIV, but no scroll bar is added to the DIV. When you test it with an Android cell phone, You will have first scroll the screen to the left.

Named 'xScope', I did put a $2.99 price tag tough if you please excuse me. I need to buy a bird for this thanksgiving and wife kept bashing my development effort for not doing any housework in the past weeks. The browser is not full blown but works great for simple surfing.

I put a webview inside a scroll view according to this http://www.anddev.org/view-layout-resource-problems-f27/add-imageview. But I found that if the webview already loaded a long content, and then load short content again. The webview doesn't resize and the scroll bar is still here.

They're all dynamically populated when the Activity loads, and they don't change after that. The ScrollView is where the SimpleOnGestureListeners are attached.When I swipe on a page that scrolls, I get something full of "in onClick" "in onScroll" "in onFling" etc.On a page that's too short to scroll, I get "in onClick" "in onShowPress" "in onLongPress", and that's only if I'm touching the content within the too-short scrollview's children--if I touch elsewhere I get no events at all.Ideas on what's wrong, or how to detect the swipe gesture no matter how big the ScrollView is?
