Android :: XScope - Multitouch Pinch Zoom Browser
Nov 23, 2009
Spent 2 weeks poking around Android SDKs and sacrificed last two weekends and finally managed to get a relatively stable version today. Named 'xScope', I did put a $2.99 price tag tough if you please excuse me. I need to buy a bird for this thanksgiving and wife kept bashing my development effort for not doing any housework in the past weeks. The browser is not full blown but works great for simple surfing.

Htc Hero is supposed to be a multi touch device, you can pinch to zoom in browser and in photo viewer, the thing that I can't understand is why all other applications don't support multitouch.
For example I downloaded snesoid and nesoid and there is written in the options that my firmware (1.5) doesnt' support multitouch, making it impossible to play games.
So is HTC hero with 1.5 really multitouch or not? And will I be able to use multitouch in emulators and other apps downloaded from the market when the 2.1 will come out?

This is to confirm that we are working on enabling Pinch Zoom for the XPERIA X10. The work with this has progressed and the plan is that this will be enabled through an over-the-air update of the X10 that for most markets will come in Q1 2011. For more information on background and what to expect please read the corresponding blog post at http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/product...
This is SE official announcment about multitouch, and few month ago they say that it was not possible, but now they say that X10 support this. What to think people some alliens fly down and changed our mobiles or SE was able from the beggining to make multitouch and he didn't wanted. E SE lovers and Moderators of this forum i am waiting for comment from you pleasee......
If you dont beleive me here is the link [url]

I'm building a mobile site and have the following meta tag set in the header:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no" />
Unfortunately, this isn't working on HTC devices (HTC Hero, etc) with Android 2.1. Any ideas on how I can disable pinch-to-zoom in this browser? Works fine on the iPhone.

Coming from an iPhone to the Fascinate, I've noticed that the pinch to zoom feature in the browser auto-fits the text after the zoom in. On my iPhone that didn't happen. I can see where auto-fit would come in handy, but there are times I don't want the layout of the site to change. I just want to zoom it a little - I'll happily finger scroll to the left, right, up, or down to read something.
Is there a way to disable the auto-fit on the zoom-in for the stock browser? I know there are other browsers out there, but I'm asking about the stock browser.
Perhaps this is a feature coming in 2.2?

Just saw this in the Market Place. HEAT theme for the Dolphin browser supports pinch-zooming!
Initial tests show it works great..
My one gripe about the phone is solved.. all is well in the world again.

Maybe it's just semantics, but I feel the need to see how others feel about this.I have always loathed the computer term "cut and paste" because you actually COPY and paste, at least that goes for 99.999% of my usage with those functions. So now the question is, do we apply the same reverse terminology to this fictional, mystical, function, that we have only seen in fuzzy Youtube videos? The reason I ask this is. the initial view of any web page that I visit, I see the whole page, and if I want to be able to read a particular column I would need to zoom into it, but here is where the terminology gets confusing, because in my experience with other devices that use such technology ie: iPod, to zoom in you actually use a stretch motion to zoom in, and a pinch motion to zoom out. I know semantics, you have to pinch to make it zoom one way or the other, but since the most commonly used zoom feature would be to zoom in, it should be called stretch-zoom instead. So how do you feel? Pinch-zoom Stretch-zoom or just plain old Multi-touch.

it should not zoom in too much (x < minZoomLevel etc) or zoom out too much (only one size - width or height - can get smaller than the display size)

I wanted to create an gallery with images. The images within the gallery should be zoomable and pannable. I could able to pinch-zoom an image but could not able to set zoom limitand prevent the image from being panned off the screen. I used the following code to zoom an image:http://code.google.com/p/4chan-image browser/source/browse/src/se/robertfoss/MultiTouch/TouchImageView.javaspec=svnd3e623ddeb6f9e97d9eba2c7aaa7c4567a3822b5&r=d3e623ddeb6f9e97d9eba2c7aaa7c4567a3822b5 First approach : I used TouchImageView to supply images to gallery, this allows me to pinch zoom but can't scroll the gallery. i.e I cant differentiate between 'single tab event' and 'tab to scroll event'

I think I read somewhere that the hardware is multi-touch capable.. so, pinch to zoom should be do-able with software, yes? Does anyone know (for sure) if the upcoming Android 2.1 release will bring that to the Moment?

I just wanted to know if there is some kind of class to use the multitouch features of android 2.1. Specifically I am trying to implement pinch-zoom and was wondering if I always have to measure the distance between two touch events and calculate the zoom level on my own?

I noticed that about 35% of the time when I try to pinch/zoom it flat out doesn't work. The little +/- are there and double tapping works just as it did pre-update.
Is this happening to anybody else? Most of the time its perfectly fine but when it doesn't work it acts pretty much like it did before the update.

I know that there are browsers like dolphin or xscope that allow multitouch zoom, but I was wondering about something else. I actually happen to like the default browser better than those two, I really just want multitouch. I'm no developer, but I was wondering how possible it would be to take the default browser, and add nothing to it but the multitouch zoom.

I need to zoom-in/zoom-out for my app. Multitouch would be the most obvious way to go about this *sigh*. I would prefer not to use the zoom-in/out widget. I have been trying a number of other techniques but am not satisfied with the feel. Looking for suggestions from the community on alternative approaches. A one fingered zoom?

Couple of questions about the GMail app on the desire. Firstly, does anyone know if there's any was of getting it to always show pictures for a given sender (like the web app)? I seem to have a decent connection most places, and get fed up of constantly having the press the button, especially as most of the emails I get are HTML type newsletters. And related to the type of emails, why doesn't the GMail app also have pinch to zoom when viewing the messages? They always come up huge and I have to scroll around. Can you at least change the default zoom. Failing that is there a another free email app. that will do these things.
