Dec 11, 2009I was playing around in my Eris and found a few apps that I have not installed. How do you open and use these apps?

View 5 RepliesI just bought an Eris and wanna get ride of some of the stock apps and junk from view in the all programs menu, ive searched but maybe im not using the right search words.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI did a search and didn't find this specific problem mentioned so here it goes.
The Eris in question (isn't mine but I'm trying to help the owner out), has of course, horrible battery issues. So, first thing I wanted to do was see if there was a built-in power-manager app like on the Motorola Droid. There wasn't so I downloaded one of the many brightness toggle widgets.
The first widget, when clicked brought up a small menu to select brightness. While that menu was up the brightness would change as it should have but would immediately change back to what it was when that menu closed.
After that I looked in options, disabled auto-brightness, and installed a new widget. This one is a simple press to change brightness in increments. When I push the button the brightness changes momentarily and then resets to whatever the slider in the Settings is at. I've tried moving that slider and that setting is what it always defaults to.
Right now the only way to adjust the brightness is in the settings menu and nothing else will work even though auto-brightness is turned off. Is there any way around this? I'd really like to be able to get it so it can be easily adjusted without having to go through so many steps.
EDIT: Playing around with it further, I tapped the widget to go to 100% brightness and of course the screen dimmed back down to 0%. I then went to the settings menu and as soon as I entered the "Sound and Display" menu, the brightness jumped up to what I had set it at with the widget. After that I can hit the Home key or otherwise leave the menu and the brightness will be properly set... until the screen times out. If the screen times out and I wake it up, it's back to 0% brightness.
I've been playing around with a few different ROMs to find the one that's the most stable for me, but something weird has happened. Most of the ROMs I like the best have the vanilla dialer which I love but the look of the dialer has changed and I'm not sure why.
At one point the dialer had the END, SPKR, MUTE etc., on the call screen so if you pulled the phone away from your ear you could see those buttons. Now when I'm on a call I have a little tab that I have to pull up to access the number pad and I have to hit MENU to bring up the END, SPKR and MUTE settings. I really want to go back to the way it was before. This has happened on several ROMs.
I cant find the settings menu for Helix. I have gone though my apps list, installed programs, search function and the whole settings menu. I even went into the market and tried to open it through there... Where is it at?
It is definitely still on my phone as it is still in use and the market says "installed".
Can someone tell me what the 'MIN' value is on the Droid X under the Menu -> Settings -> About -> Status? It appears to be a phone number but it isn't mine.
This is just under the 'My Phone Number' field (which does have the correct phone number) and just above the MEID.
Is there any way to make the settings menu icons display in color like on the incredible? Seems a shame to have a HD display but all the options are in black and white.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I attempted to hack my droid to wifi tether but I ended up getting stuck at one step. I decided to give up so I want to restore my droid to factory settings, but when I rebooted my phone into recovery mode and factory reset, there is a superuser app in the app menu. I think it's factory restoring to a custom image. Is there a way to restore it the way I got it when I walked out of the Verizon store?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden going into "handle programs" in settings on my HTC Desire force closes com.android.settings. BAM! I've tried rebooting several times, no difference. Even tried uninstalling the last application I installed but it still force closes. Now uninstalling through the market works fine, so it does through the astro program handler, but why does my core settings app all of a sudden crash bigtime?I've not rooted the device and I don't have much fishy stuff on it, the most fishy thing I guess is the HTC IME modded keyboard from jonasl that adds the microphone button and a milllion other neafty tricks. I'm not sure if this started happening then or later.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI notice certain games or applications. I download end up running in the background. Once I open up the "advanced task manager" or a free one I kill all the applications running and I notice over time or an hour the application come back up as running in the background? Any way to kill them any make them not come back? Just trying to get the phone to run smoother.
Also I have handcent SMS and notice that the regular messenger still is running even after I force close it it's still running. I can't un-install the normal messenger. Is there a way to get handcent SMS to be default or make that one run only and have the other one never run in the background?
how to uninstall programs. For the life if me I can't figure it out.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot my Eris, I have noticed many unneccesary programs open, some in which I never use at all...I found this information in Advanced Task Manager by the way. How do I disable programs from starting up on my Droid Eris?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am constantly finding programs running on my phone, regardless of what I've used. For instance, "Easy tether", which I never use while in town, would come up as "running". "Where's my droid", which have not used since installing 2 months ago... or "Voice dialer? What makes things run, when they haven't been used?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there an app out there that will not just stop a program from starting up but from running at all? I have to continually kill progs like Footprints (or something), Amazon mp3 store, etc. I'd like to streamline the phone and only have programs running that are essential.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to posting here, but have been reading the posts here for quite some time. Thanks for the great info that you all provide.
I have 2 questions about the All Programs screen ......
Is there a way to re-arrange the order of the way the apps are arranged on this page ? If so, how?
Secondly, how can I remove apps off of the All Programs screen ? I know that apps that I download from The Market will disappear once they have been 'uninstalled', but what about anything else such as "Amazon MP3", "Visual Voicemail", "Stocks", etc. ?
These are things (apps listed above ) I have NO interest in, but they crowd up my All Programs screen and force me to do a lot more scrolling (due to not being able to re-arrange my most used apps on this page, SO FAR).
Any1 been able to do fun and exciting things to improve the android experience and/or fix bugs using Terminal editors, and the programs stored in /System/Bin? I've been playing around with some of them basically just looking @ command syntax for the different programs. Some of them seem promising, and some of them look like they can make ur eris into a stylish paperweight. One app i actviated was $ Toolbox, the only thing this did was echo back Toolbox! in the termina editor lol. Ive seen posts where ppl used dmesg to find out how the internal memory was partitioned. I'll admit i'm a total linux shell newb, but playing around with it is fun for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was reading one of these threads, and someone mentioned that there was a way to stop apps from opening on launch.I have apps that randomly open by themselves and i want to prevent them from doing so. (VLC Remote, default messages, and a few others)I've posted enough good points that if this was said already i can get a freebee :P
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to the Eris, and have had pretty good luck with battery life, until a couple days ago. I take it off the charger, and an hour later I am down to 80%. No WiFi, no GPS on, etc. I check with ATK and find Browser, Music, Mail, etc. all open. So, today after I took the Eris off its charger, I reboot it, then check ATK, kill any open programs, and go about my day.
2 hours later, I look, and my battery is at 74%! So I open ATK, and there is all these programs open again, and all I have done in that 2 hours is send a couple texts. The only change I made recently is I installed PandaHome, didn't really like any of the themes, and uninstalled it all. Could it have left something behind that is opening programs?
Is there any advantage in using the Moxier programs on the X10 as opposed to just standard email settings?

im supposed to go to the settings screen after pressing the menu button on the phone and pressing on the "Settings" option.but it isnt happening.
My app requires a network connection so if they don't have one enabled I prompt them to start it. I do this by calling the Wireless & Network settings Activity as such:
CODE:...............
However, when I run my app in the debugger, onActivityResult is called immediately as my calling activity is exited when it should be called once the settings menu if exited. This premature call also sends a resultCode of Activity.RESULT_CANCEL.
Here is the code from onActivityResult:
CODE:.....................
I am dealing with a problem discussed on many forums but they all say go to the "settings" menu on the "Android SDK and AVD Manager" screen. Yet I have installed in on multiple machines and do not see a Settings menu. Where is the menu? I have it installed on Windows XP and Vista.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy employer has told me to create an android app to do the following:
The ability to password protect specific submenus in the Settings menu (i.e. specifically Privacy, Applications, and Location & Security).
Is this possible without rooting?
My children (twin boys) have phones (samsung i5500) and I'd like to be able to remove access to the settings option, mainly to prevent them messing around with passwords which they often forget.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't understand this. If I go to menu - applications, I have manage apps and running services. My running services only shows essential apps running. When I go into manage apps and click on the running tab, it shows a ton of non essential apps running that I have used. My confusion, and question is, which menu is correct? For example, facebook does not show under running services but it shows under the running tab in the manage apps menu. I force close it and it comes back on. Which one is correct?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to launch my application(few Activities, Services, Receivers) from the Setting menu.
In other words I am interested to know:
1. I this a trivial task ?
2. Did someone has done such task before ?
3. What APIs and application's code should I learn
In the settings menu on my DI there is a menu category called "accessibility". When i hit that button, it brings up a dim option to check or uncheck, but it can't be checked. What is this for, and how is it accessed?
