Motorola Droid :: Text Messages (Over 160 Characters) Sent In Multiple Segments
Jan 23, 2010I don't know if anyone else tried/got this message but I have the stock messaging app and accidentally sent over the 160 character limit and instead of getting the verizon message that says it only sends the first 160 characters to non-verizon customers. I got a message that read "messages sent to non-verizon customers over 160 characters are sent as plain text in multiple segments". Looks like verizon is now splitting text messages for us. Just thought I would pass this along to everyone. Only problem I have seen so far is every time you go over the 160 limit verizon sends you that message every single time kinda gets annoying.

Aug 22, 2010I have a Droid with Android 2.1. I am on a CDMA network. I send messages to some people on a GSM and when we use non-ascii characters, like ± or ¡ or Japanese and such, over sms, the other end gets them as question marks �. I don't know anybody on a CDMA network so I can not test if the problem would be there too. I don't know if it is a problem between the networks or something wrong with my phone or what. Finding information in google has proven unsuccessful. Though I found some text naming it a 'common' problem.

Feb 13, 2009I do not have a device. I am testing on the emulator. When I send a message(problematically and through the device) with special characters I am not able to view them properly. For Example: When I send a message from one emulator to another say "~Ha". I see only the character "~" in the other emulator.
But when I send the same message from the DDMS, I do not see the problem. Is this a problem with the emulator or am i missing somthing. sm.sendTextMessage("5556", null, "~Ha", null, null);

Dec 1, 2010So my girlfriend is having an issue with her phone. I don't see it being an issue with mine but it might be something else. She is receiving non-alpha numeric characters in her text messages. So far shes gotten it from me and one of her other friends not knowing what to say she called it "caligraphy". Anyways, I am on Metro and her friend is on Verizon. I'd figure its a CDMA issue but she is on a Samsung Moment on Sprint which is also CDMA so idunno.
To me they send fine, but to her some of the texts she receives come in all garbled. Not sure whats going on, anyone got any ideas? Her phone is unrooted, stock, and like a week and a half ago had a factory reset done. Its 2.1 android. In this screenshot I asked her to forward me the "jibberish." She had tried to do it several times earlier but i never got the messages, this time i got it so heres a screenie for you all.

Jun 11, 2010For instance when i type in the word "me" but when it auto corrects the e has a downward carrot above it. and it does this for many many words. language is in english, so not sure what it could be. i use for now the htc keyboard.

Aug 1, 2010So im looking at my messages and i get a long one. After like 100 characters or something it cuts it off and replaces it with ... And then i have to click on it to see the rest. Is there any way to take this off in the settings?
And my second question, my phone doesnt connect to my computer right. I plugged it in, it said it didnt have the right software or something, so i went and downloaded the the Vista 64 bit thing thats stickied on here. I plug it in, and the "you have the wrong software" thing was gone, but nothing else happpened. The screen says its connected and it vibrates and i hear the noise thru the computer, so what am i doing wrong. I read somewhere that you pull down the little bar at the top and hit dock or something like that. I cant do that. If i can pull it down theres no buttons to hit. Can someone walk me thru this process? FIXED

Oct 13, 2010Newly replaced Eris, so I'm reinstalling a lot of apps. But now I've forgotten how I fixed this problem the last time. I'm getting double the messages (and notifications), via both Messages and Handscent. All i really wanna see/hear from/use is Handscent.

Sep 21, 2010Is there a way to make them vibrate? I've tried widgets and doin it myself and i can only seem to get phone calls to vibrate and nothin else. I like havin my phone on vibrate at work but it sucks that txt messages don't vibrate....what am i missing here?

Well heres the question. When i receive my picture messages with animation it wont play all i get is a download button.. I click on the download button and all i get to see is the picture i click on view and it wont do the animation or anything.. is there any app i can get to make it animate and play the music like my old gravity did..

Feb 14, 2010Sometimes with my Eris when I try to type a text message or make a phone call, nothing shows up. I can press the letters and see the auto-correct as if its typing, but on the message bar, there are no words being typed. For making a call I can type in numbers, but when I press call, nothing happens, whenever this happens I have to wait a few minutes before it starts to register the typing again and sometimes i have to restart my phone all together. Is this happening to anybody else? And, if so, does anybody have a fix?

Apr 18, 2010I have a question. I recently downloaded Handcent to try it out and one day out of nowhere, MMS messages won't download. I click the download button an retry and it fails after about a second. I uninstalled Handcent, dialed *228 to reprogram, and sometimes it works, but often it doesn't. Sometimes, I'll even get an MMS from one person, but the message appears in a different thread, still not being able to Download. I searched for the problem and came across this being common for the Hero, but I'm not sure if its related to my Eris. Anyone with an Eris have experience with this? Or tips? I want to stay away from a Hard Reset, but will try it if I can sync my contacts.

Feb 22, 2010My HTC Eris stops receiving mms messages after about 5 weeks and sometimes sms messages dont come thru either. This is the second time this has happened. Often im not even alerted that a message tried to be received. Other times i get this generic message as an incoming message that says who its from, the message size (which always states 30kb), and expires (5 days from the current date). It also shows a gray box that you can touch to download but it tries and then sends a message to the bottom of the phone that says "download of message unsuccessful." Occasionally when a new pic message tries to come thru, it forces an old unsuccessful picture message thru. Verizon has no answer or resolution nor does HTC. I have tried using the other message programs and they dont work either.

I've read about text message issues on the Hero, but so far not anything about the Eris yet. Hopefully it was just a 1-time fluke up until then it's been working perfectly for 3 days now, and its working perfectly fine again now.

Mar 30, 2010Im using the stock messaging app and for about 3 weeks or so I haven't been able to receive an MMS messages. Everytime i receive one it will say in the notification bar "message not downloaded, retransmission scheduled for xx:xx" and in the actual message there is an option to download but when that is selected it just reverts back to the message in the notification bar.

Jan 30, 2010I've been enjoying my phone so far but now its running kinda slow in the message department, so I figured I'd clear out all my messages, all 3000+ plus. Android just doesn't want to delete them, I've heard that it can take 5+ minutes to delete message threads 500+, I'm screwed because one of my threads has over 2000! This phone should be storing older txt messages to the sdcard anyway, not sure why it wouldn't. Basically this thread was made to complain how crappy clearing out messages was.
