Is there any application for Desire which allows me to see the altitude ? Based on GPS, of course.
I know that the GPS altitude data isn't particularly reliable, so I looked for alternatives. This looks like a good solution I found here: But the value returned is not what I expected: -1.79769313486231E+308 I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with this figure...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI live in an area which is 9 feet above sea level, and when I call getAltitude I get back a value less than -10. Am I doing something wrong, is my device a failure, or is there some nifty scale that I don't know about?

Critical Altitude 3D is an Accelerometer based third person flight game featuring real-time 3D graphics (OpenGL ES). Race through endless levels avoiding buildings and various obstacles to earn a highscore!
- OpenGL ES for true 3D real-time graphics
- Accelerometer ( tilt the device ) for Up/Down and Left/Right steering
- 4 Planes to choose from with different speeds and point rewards
- Planes unlocked based on Highscore...
Do you know some quick and sufficient way to get altitude (elevation) by longitude and latitude, that would be easy to use on Android platform? While this is a self-learning question, my approach is still time-consuming ('coz it's web-service etc), so I would like to receive any alternatives or possible improvement suggestions!
View 3 Replies View RelatedAn 'ICE' one - but not one that allows access to the dialer. Simply a button on the unlock pattern screen which when someone presses it, gives basic health information/stats [like blood type, and a paragraph of known health issue or something]. So that nothing unlocks, people don't need to unlock it, so doesn't require knowledge of the pattern. Doesn't allow access to the dialer. Simply a 'if I can't talk I can poke and show you' button.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my Desire for about a month, and I am finding it very hard to understand why there is no simple backup to PC application.
All I want is something that knows the SD card locations of my SMS and photos and will quietly back them up to corresponding locations on my PC hard drive.
At the moment I am using a file browser app to manually copy the files when the phone is physically connected and using HTC sync.
I don't really understand why all(?) the backup solutions I have seen cater for backup to the phone's SD card or backup to a server in the cloud, which is, respectively, far too little and far too much.
I already have a backup strategy for my PC. I just want the frequently changing locations in my SD card to be quietly copied to my PC hard drive, and prefereably OTA.
How do you do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe've had our desire's for a few weeks now and was just wondering what the phones performance is like for you guys/gals? you've all put on apps that you want and music and videos etc., has this affected the phone in anyway? Does it still run like it did out of the box or do you experience lag or other faults? Interested what you have to say.
The only gripe that I have is it is sometimes slow to access the market and takes a few seconds to load the page when scrolling down and I've got a stutter when I access an app to read reviews. Other than that it still runs smooth, I've got music, videos, apps, widgets and voice to text on mine and is easily the best phone I've ever had. Has anybody got a cache cleaner app, I can only find one for rooted phones?
Is there an app to switch off the phone at automatic times? I.e, turns off at midnight so no calls in the night, but switches on before the alarm goes off? I'm fairly sure the alarm doesn't currently go off if the phones off, some of my previous phones have been forced on by the alarm.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust wondering if there's a way to uninstall application updates? Anything short of using something like Titanium Backup for all apps before letting them update? Basically, I have a widget that's been updated to support 'night mode' - now I can't see the details over my wallpaper Obviously re-installing the app from the Market will already contain the update .
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my HTC Desire yesterday. It seems that Goggle Maps are not A-GPS. Either they need wireless or 3G. 3G plan can become expensive if not being too careful. So the question is: what application has A-GPS facility for HTC Desire? You know have those maps on SD Card and what you need is a GPS connection.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have just got a new htc desire and love it have read this http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/59664-htc-desire-tips-tricks.html which is very good but have a few qu's:
1) do background apps use any/much power?
2) does wi-fi switch itself off if it is not needed or when there is no connection available? (i have wi-fi at home and unlimited internet so if i leave wi-fi on when i'm at home, after i leave will it switch itself off?)
3) is there an app for sleep that monitors your sleep using the inbuilt sensor so that it wakes you up when you are ready with a set time period (for example 7:30-8:00) and monitors how much you move about at night?
I got my DHD today and it's great. This is my first smartphone too. I am trying to install my first app but i have to use htc sync. The software provided is for windows but I use mac.

I was on the 1gb and they swapped me over and gave me a choice of booster. As i now have all this data I want to spread the love a little! So is it OK to tether assuming there is an app?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was using Advanced Task Killer Free and found a running app called poor, unsure what it was so used ATKF to kill it but after checking a little while later it was running again, killed it again and again checking a few minutes it was running again. Becoming increasingly concerned I've now uninstalled every application (a number of them had updated) except ATKF and Google maps (which also updated recently) but it still seems to start itself.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I take my HTC handset to another country, will it charge me for just having it turned on (no 3G, apps, widgets or anything that uses the net in some way turned off). Cause I take it, it will try to find an Orange signal in that country if they do have Orange there so will it charge me for that? (I'm on contract by the way). Next question is similar to my last question. Can I still use my internet allowance from my contract (500Mb) in another country or will I get charged?
What is an unbranded phone? Is mine unbranded? I'm just gonna take a wild guess - since I purchased my mobile through a third-party site (in this case, e2save), those guys simply buy the airtime off Orange and get the handset directly from the manufacturer so is this an unbranded phone? What are the advantages of having an unbranded phone?.............
So I got this error today, and thought I'd share my woe. Some quick internet searches suggest it to be a fairly common issue on Android phones. Basically, when it happens, this error pops up when you turn your phone on, and the phone won't boot up. There's nothing you can do other than hard-reset, unfortunately, by switching it off, holding down both volume buttons, and then switching it on. You then select 'clear user data'. I am somewhat peeved, as it'll take me hours to get my phone set up again, but I'm happy it's alive again! And this time I'm going to make a backup.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThere must be a way of checking data usage on the phone without recourse to an app; the app gets its data from somewhere on phone and presumably repackages it so its all user friendly and easy to see etc. I could dispense with the 3G watchdog altogether (just cutting widgets down) if I knew where it was. Is it the packet figure in *#4636.?
