I've tried to watch video on YouTube through WiFi (both at home and at work - lunchtimes, obviously ) and have found that the majority of videos bring an error message which reads "Sorry - unable to play video". If I turn off WiFi and try through 3G, they play fine...

I just got my HTC Desire today, and have been learning how it works etc, but I just tried to do a google search, use youtube and sign into facebook using the facebook app and widget, and nothing will work. I can use FriendStream fine.. I updated my facebook status with it and it's showing updates as they happen. I'm using my home wifi and the phone says it's connected with signal strength 'good'. Can anyone explain what the problem might be? I haven't tried 3g yet, if that matters at all. (not entirely sure how I'd switch to it for testing purposes other than going outside out of wifi range)
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm at home, my WiFi speed is typically almost 3m DOWN and 700k UP. (Lame compared to my speeds at work) While my 3G is typically about HALF of those speeds. But here's where my confusion sets in. When I watch a YouTube video with the stock YouTube app, videos buffer faster and/or play MUCH better when using 3G. I'm wondering if the 3G connection is utilizing some kind of compression that allows this?

Not a severe problem, but I was so used to posting vids for work as the fastest way to get a QC problem resolved for co-workers across the state. I'd post a vid, they see it within minutes, and come up with a solution.
Can't do that with Droid.
Can't email them as the files are too large. Still have to use my little Nokia on ATT to do that.

I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...
whenever i play videos on youtube thru wifi it looks like im running 480p which i dont like because i want to watch videos in 720p whats going on here? also has anyone found a program that will give the phone an equalizer or something ? the stock music player sucks and music plays to low.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHQ videos don't download fast enough on 3G or Wifi! I didn't think too much of it until my friend came over with his new Iphone 4G. I told him about the new mobile youtube site so that he can see the videos in HQ. He was on the crappy ATT 3G network and was able to play a video in HQ without any problems at all. It was downloading about twice as fast as it was playing. I was very surprised. I then tried the exact same video but it just sat there trying to download. It would play for about 2 seconds then stop. It was really bad. I then turned on my wifi, but it did the exact same thing. I restarted the phone, turned on wifi again, did a speed check so I knew that the wifi was working, then tried it again. Still wouldn't download any HQ youtube video faster than it was playing. I'm just really surprised that my overclocked droid (1.25ghz) on the verizon network (or wifi) couldn't come close to keeping up with the Iphone 4 on ATT's crappy network. I kind of feel like something is wrong here so I though I would ask if anyone else is able to play HQ videos on 3G without it stopping. In other words, is it downloading faster than its playing.

WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
Just tested data receiving on both, a 57 second clip (of King Crimson!) used only 0.6 mb on the YouTube app, the same clip used 2.3mb on the flash, that's nearly 4 times as much. what reason is there for using the flash player at all? not running 2.2, locked to Orange network.

I had no problems before but now my phone refuses to sync the account and I'm constantly getting an error telling me that 'syncing is unavailable at the moment'. I've removed the account and added it back on but have had no luck. When I try to re-enter the password I'm told it's wrong even though I know it isn't. I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

View 2 Replies View Relatedjust wondering if anyone is having the same issues as me with YouTube.The audio and video with the built in app is slightly off sync, with the picture moving very slightly ahead of the audio.There is an issue with subscriptions where a few selected channels show 0 videos, and going in results in all videos bringing up an error Viewing the site through the web browser is great, with subscriptions showing fine with new videos, but the flash player is not up to speed and this time the picture is quite far ahead of the video, to the point where it isn't really watchable. I don't think its just me, and I hope there might be an update soon as I can't find a workaround.

I'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?
