Is it possible to withhold your number on the Desire so that the receiver does not see your number or your ID when you call them? Can't see this option anywhere in the Settings.

For something like a 'help I can't get up' app -- is there a way for a user to set a contact number, and then for the app to call that number in the future WITHOUT the user initiating the dialout? I've tried the below but there seems to be a problem. Code...

My problem is this:
I find that the easiest way to call a person is to go to the phone app and scroll through the call history displayed to find the person I wish to call. Once I see their name, I just press on it, and the call begins. Unfortunately, a friend I call often may use their house phone or cell phone when I only ever want to call their cell (Evo ). Often, the situation is that I previously talked to him on his house phone, and I'm calling him in the middle of the night (we're young; we don't sleep rational hours during the summer... or ever). Unfortunately for me, my call usually bugs his parents, and I get reprimanded...
Is there a setting that allows me to only call his cell, or do I just need to break this habit?
Full disclosure: There are millions of us semi-old guys who need reading glasses, but have perfect sight for everything else. We need the ability to use a larger font for the calling number. Its OK if the caller is in the contact list, but if it's not I really want to read the number quickly and decide yes/no on taking the call. Grabbing the readers takes time, and can be sketchy when driving.

I came over from BlackBerry, where there is simply an option to "hide" my phone number on outgoing calls... but I can't seem to do this with my Eris. Someone once suggested that I prefix my contacts with *69... but that seems to prevent caller id from working properly, which just trades one issue for another.
If possible, I would prefer to be selective with who I do this with (it's okay for personal contacts to see my number... but it's not okay for business contacts to see my number).
Looking for a tip here.
How do you look up a local phone number (for calling) or address (for nav).
I have tried Yellow Pages, magnifying glass (search), and a few other apps but nothing is working great for finding the closest Pizza Hut for example (had a gift certificate). What do you use?
I need to dial a number in Germany which would be +49... now since i can't make that call with my verizon plan i bought a CBS phone card. so i hit 1 for English, 2 for international etc. then when i need to enter the number, on my old phone it worked fine by holding 0 for a while to dial +49. but for some reason that doesn't work with the droid. any ideas?

I am not getting call in number in off_hook state when it is only coming in dialing state. According to documentation it should provide call in number for off_hook state as well. Is it a bug?

The only widget I can find is "voice search" but this seems to not be dialing specific and may choose to search the web for you etc. My question: Is there a dialing specific voice command widget, if not how do I do it properly?
I have a parrot bluetooth kit which usually prompts a phone to ask for a voice command. The desire although linked, doesn't seem to respond.
I got myself an HTC Desire the other day and so far I'm pretty much in love. However! In my contacts, I've got it set to only show Phone contacts, and I've hidden Sim/Gmail contacts. I've also linked all my contacts with their Facebook profiles. So in my contacts list (People), it's fine. However, when I go to messaging and start typing a name in the To field, there's a duplicate of everyone. As far as I can see, there's no similar "hide SIM" option etc for the texting/calling, so I'm just wondering how to sort this? I saw someone to try deleting all phone contacts and just using your SIM contacts but to be honest I'd rather not do this, since I like to just use my SIM contacts as a basic backup if you get me.

Is there an app which can take into account the gap between the prompts and can automate the inputs. E.g. wait for 2 secs, then enter 1, then wait for 1 second and enter the phone number etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.
I have face book and imported all my previous phone contacts so i currently have all of my old phone contacts and also "contacts" with all of my friends on face book. however all of my face book friends don't have phone numbers saved on face book so when i want to add a phone number to this person under "search people" on the phone, how can i do this? (to put it simply i want to add a number to a face book contact card on the phone if that makes sense)
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I have to say this phone is amazing and by far the best handset I've ever had.ight, my problem. I use Outlook contacts at work and had a Windows mobile before this one. The contacts appeared to sync into Desire no problem with HTC Sync and I was using phone with no issues. I then decided to see if I could have mail sent to phone like a Blackberry. I went to 'accounts & sync' and set up my work domain etc. The email side of it works fine. since then I noticed that my contacts in 'People' are normal. When I go to send a text, everything from a contact is listed twice. I use Handcent, but it happens in HTC message app as well. Each contact has 'linked' in top right corner and if i tap it the two contacts for the same person are 'Phone' and 'Exchange'. Any ideas how I can remove one of these?
Is HTC Sync, syncing with Outlook and the Desire sync settings are syncing with the Exchange? Any help on how best to set this up is appreciated. I do want to have Outlook contacts as they are full of notes about customers.
When i go to Menu - Settings - About phone - Phone identity, it lists my phone number as unknown.Anyone know how to change it or add my number to it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFirst post, go easy! Bought myself an unbranded/unlocked Desire this week and still getting to grips! Anyway, I was previously on vodafone with another phone, and stuck a new Virgin Mobile simcard in my Desire. Everything fine and hunky dorey. Then today I've had my old vodafone number ported onto my Virgin sim card. That *works* in that people can call me on it etc.However, when I go into Settings -> About Phone -> Phone Identity the phone number is wrong, its the number that originally came with my Virgin simcard, not the number that is now associated with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf i goto call the other half from my contacts list, it says that hs number is not available If I dial it manually, it connects ok. If I interrogate the contact details the number is correct except that the desire has automatically changed the number from 0781. to 44781 without a + infront of it. Could this be a the problem? If he calls me, the number displayed is the same as the contact details. I have noticed however that his facebook picture is an old one. Could it have something to do with the number that he has on his facebook profile.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just taken delivery of my brand new HTC Desire and I'm having a little difficulty importing my contacts from my old SE W995. I've put the SIM card in the new handset and it seems to have recognized some of the numbers but as far as I can see its only showing one number per contact whereas my W995 let me save a few different numbers for each contact (work, home, mobile etc) - is there any way to get the HTC to recognize this without keying them all in again?

However, I went to text today, and in the "To" field, I started typing, attempting the special "just press the number, and we'll guess the corresponding letter" approach, which I've used throughout my time with the phone. However, it didn't work: instead, it's just offering me T9 or normal ABC - it's not doing the clever guessing thing. For example, if I wanted to text my mum, stored as "mum" in my phone book, I'd usually type "686", however, now, that's simply coming up with "mtm". I don't think I switched any option, but if I inadvertently did, I can't find where to undo it.

I assumed that there would be an easy way to copy the number from my contacts and paste it into a text message. However I couldn't work it out and had to go down the traditional route of writing it on a piece of paper then sending the text! Hardly a good advert for the new 'uberphone' that the desire is billed as! So, is there a way to do it?
