Which is the best codec to use? I've just noticed that I've an additional one since upgrading to Froyo.H.263, H.264 or MPEG4? Which is the best quality, or are there positives and negatives to each?

I don't bother to take videos with the Evo because of the embarrassing audio.It sounds so horrible I can't stand to listen! Anyway, I was looking at a developer's page that said you're free to use any codec supported by Android.However, the chart shows AMR narrow band as the only thing that will encode audio. It only works from 200-3400hz @8k bitrate. No wonder it sounds so bad.Do you folks know who to contact about using another encoder for video, not the same crappy one it uses for voicemails (which sound equally horrible).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Loop back program for testing Audio on Android devices.It uses AudioRecord and AudioTrack to record PCM audio from the Mic and play PCM audio out the earpiece. So as you can see in the creation of the AudioTrack and AudioRecord the Encoding is supplied via the AudioFormat but this only allows 16 bit or 8 bit PCM.I have my own G711 Codec implementation now and I want to be able to encode the audio from the Mic and decode it going into the EarPiece, So I have encode(short lin[], int offset, byte enc[], int frames) and decode(byte enc[], short lin[], int frames) methods but I'm unsure as to how to use them to encode and the decode the audio from the AudioRecord and AudioTrack.

I had one of these for my old WinMo device but can't seem to find one for Android. Any thoughts? Even a different media player with built-in support would work for playing back voice mail on the go.

I currently use the AudioTrack and AudioRecord classes in Android.I use the pure PCM data but I was wondering what my options are for other codecs?From this page it seems I can only encode and decode using AMR narrowband?The code runs properly but I'm wondering does it actually encode the Audio as AMR_NB and if this is not a proper way to do it?I was getting a buffer overflow when using raw PCM but none have appeared since using the new code with the MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB used instead of the AudioFormat.PCM

Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...
I've been having reception issues with Orange and they are sending me a new handset to see if that is the problem. If I drag all the data from the old SD card to my computer and then back over to the new SD card, will that keep all the setting form the HTC backup settings? Or do I have to point it in the right direction.

I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

If anyone is interested, I will provide more info on how to install the patch and where to d/l it from.My desire is rooted but S-ON and odexed. It only works on rooted phones.I love this feature that only comes on DHD & DZ as part of the new sense 2.0 ui as standard.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.
I have posed this question in some threads but as yet have made no progress.I am just curious as to why HTC appear to have left out the Bluetooth Voice Dialler function that can be provided by the Froyo 2.2 O/S. I believe this feature is present and enabled in some of the cooked roms and also in the Nexus one Vanilla 2.2 so why not here?If I have missed somthing simple or if anyone is aware why it is missing or how I can activate it that would be fantastic!
