Sep 11, 2010Does anyone known of a good video editor application or pc software for 3gpp video taken on the x10 mini all i want to do is crop about 15 secs off a video i took but can't find one, downloaded 1 of andriod market but was just a player and not a editor like they claimed. why these features not installed standed anymore like they where on yesterdays bricks.

Sep 12, 2010My Android Desire is a superb device and will do almost anything I want. Even cleans up around the house and makes coffee and feeds the cat. However, there is one simple thing I cannot get it to do: provide me with a simple text editor like Wordpad so that I can write little texts on the go. I've searched everywhere for this function. I cannot imagine that it is missing from the phone, it's so basic. When I search for "text" I get all sorts of stuff on writing "text" messages, i.e. SMS messages (the term "text" seems to have lost its original meaning and is now used almost exclusively to refer to SMS messages). Where is the Desire equivalent of Wordpad or Notepad or, better, Notepad++?

Aug 15, 2010I'm doing a bit of online copy-writing on the side at the moment, and it would be great if I could use this thing to write a few paragraphs here and there when I'm on the move. How would the HTC Desire handle multi-tasking between a browser and a basic text editor? I won't be looking for any crazy formatting options; don't need to change margins, add pagination or anything. Just a few sites open for researching facts and an application that can handle badly worded sentences with lame jokes thrown in
My contract is due to run out soon and I'm not sure whether I should negotiate one with a free Desire, or get a cheap handset and then buy a netbook. I'm broke at the moment so its a case of either/or!

Jun 17, 2010I get around 5 to 7 hours use with mine, and i've only owned it for about a week, and this is after a couple of complete discharges aswell.So how much 'awake' time do you get?Another thing, does anyone else find it stupid how the awake time and up time don't reset after a full charge?!

HTC Desire :: Battery Usage On Andrioid 2.2
Sep 3, 2010this thread directed at those that did not root or unlock their HTC desire but uses its original android.. before i go on, my standard usage is as follows, mostly sms using, a phone call or two, less than an hour of wifi browsing at night.. on android 2.1, my battery lasted roughly 2 days and a bit more.. after updating to android 2.2 via wifi through auto update on the phone. today was my third day after charging my phone to 100%.
its now almost 5pm, on my third day and my battery still has a whopping 40% of battery life left.. so just wondering whether anyone else have this miraculous boost of battery life with android 2.2 or not.

Nov 12, 2010I've had System Panel's monitoring feature enabled overnight and I've noticed something using the CPU all night at between 1 and 2%. I have managed to track it down to a process called 'Suspend'. I just wondered if this was normal for whatever this process is? I would have thought the CPU should be at 0% if I'm not using the phone.

Anyway, the manual that comes with it doesn't really cover that much, and the only information about that battery I can find is on the beginning where it says that it takes about 3 hours to fully charge it. However, it doesn't mention how long you should charge it on your very first usage: until the LED-light turns green, or more (like when I had to charge my old Nokia for 8 hours the first time)? Sep 27, 2010We've all heard the horror stories (I just bought my Desire and the battery lasts for about 4 hours!) and the fanboy wankery (I get at least 3 days of heavy use!) So today I unplugged my Desire at about 6am and set off for work. It's 7pmish now and here's some stuff you may like to look at. I have 3G disabled, Sync on manual, no "live" widgets (just WiFi and bluetooth) live wallpaper (nexus) and screen brightness on auto. Here's the battery status (rounded up from 25% according to Battery Info in the Testing app)
The breakdown of usage:
My phone was idle for 9 hours and 45 mins:
The Display was on for a mere 2hours and 46 mins
With only 1.5 hours of WiFi:
And 30 mins of calls:
So, that'll be less than 3 hours of usage.

Jun 28, 2010Could someone please tell me why when im sat at home with a wireless network my usage according to netcounter is climbing all the time...not worried when im on wifi...but what about when im on mobile network?...is it background data?..surely you can switch background data off and manually refresh when you need to? how do i turn background data off?

Aug 29, 2010Decided on getting a desire on 3 from CPW after advice on here yesterday. Not actually ordered yet; its bank holiday weekend so it not be here till at least Wednesday anyway. Just wondered about 3s fair usage policy on data. On the contract info on CPW it just says unlimited internet *subject to fair usage policy. Doesn't say how much that is though. Is it 500mb or 1gb?

I thought it may have something to do with google collecting location data in the background so turned off 'use wireless networks' in location settings. This seems to have fixed the problem but is there a way of having this setting enabled so the phone only uses 3G when in an application rather than using my data usage without being in any particular program?

Apr 2, 2010I was panicking a little yesterday as I thought I would miss the delivery of my new Desire. This was not the case at 5:30pm it arrived and it truly is an amazing phone. It took me around 4 hours to totally kill the battery from new (when you get the battery it only has a little charge in it) so this I was really pleased about, this was with WiFi on constantly and using it nonstop on twitter, flicker, taking photos, android market, internet browsing and basically just finding my ways around the menus as i've been out of the game for a while. I really think that the worries I was having about not liking it and reverting back to my iPhone are blown out of the window, this device really has blown me away and the integrated twitter app Peep is also very good, although I am now using tweetcasterPRO. It had a full charge last night so I am going to hammer the phone today to see how quickly I can get the battery to go flat so I have a rough idea if one charge will last me through the day.

Oct 24, 2010Can't find any previous discussions about this: is there a way I can see how much data is being used by individual apps? I use 3G watchdog to monitor total data usage, but I can't find a way to see what is using the data.
Last month I used about 550mb of my 750mb FUP allowance without doing anything to limit data use. Nothing has changed, but this month Watchdog is predicting a total use of 1.2gb at my next billing date!
HTC Desire : GPS Usage Makes 3G Connection Stop / How To Fix?
Jun 27, 2010Whenever I start to use my GPS (not just switching it on but actually use it) for instance using Google maps and navigation, it seems to kill my 3G connection. I can still see the icon for connection however but it stalls completely. I have to switch GPS off, then force wi-fi on, then switch wi-fi off again to establish 3G connection again. This means that I can't use my GPS at all whenever I'm off wi-fi and want to use 3G. This is absolutely not OK. I've just started with this Android business, choosing this over iPhone. Please help me not to regret my choice.

Dec 1, 2009I don't know if it's my phone or what but when I look up the Other Usage on my phone, it shows it "Running" more than 2/3 of the time.And on Network Usage, "Android System" and "Media" use a great deal of the phone as well.I think this might have to do with my "android.process.acore" crashing every once in a while when it's asleep. Based on everyone's feedback I might have to return the Moment for a third time.

I've had a look in my task manager and there is nothing obvious running that shouldn't be, if that makes sense.

Jun 25, 2010I've used the search and read all thread that include "data" in the post's title. Lots of it was helpful, yet I have a few questions. This morning as a test to see how much data my phone uses just for syncing and any kind of background data, I turned on the network data and syncing.
after 20 mins it was up to 1.5mb (according to my data counter widget). I downloaded the Spare Parts app which shows me what instances use how much data; very useful. The 1.5mb I'm stating here already exclude RSS updates and a few web pages I loaded this morning. This 1.5mb is ONLY the syncing stuff. So my question is: Why and how can it be so much data? I use gmail and google calendar and contacts, and have some 400+ friends of Facebook (FB). Calendar and FB were already synced yesterday before I went to bed. How can another sync use so much data? It wasn't my email (Gmail) as there weren't many this morning.
The calendar sync apprently took up 468kb, and a process called "UID 10027" which i presume is FB? used 555kb. I'm really puzzled by these numbers. as google sync happens frequently throughout the day unless I activate it, usually i get up to 15mb a day without actually doing much (i.e. no browsing, no RSS feeds updates, no streaming). Why is the FB and Google sync taking up so much data? I downloaded FB for android, which replaced the FB for HTC application (so now I have inbox, and not the stupid "Take a Picture" in the app thank god) which doesn't even use the sync from the account settings but has its own update cycle which I had turned to 'manual'. Ialready switched off the "use WiFi for location" because I heard google maps otherwise constantly searches in the background
HTC Desire :: Google Navigation And Data Usage While Roaming?
Jun 10, 2010I am taking a holiday to South West France (Nantes Area) in July and hope to use Google Navigation but I am a bit concerned about data usage. I am on t-mobile 3gb limit but that won't apply as soon as I go out of UK coverage,bearing in mind $5.00 per a MB I could use a a lot of MBs to make a 200 mile journey. What my main concerns are,
1. Although I can set up Google to navigate to where I am going at home, will it cache the route but if I exit Google Nav is the route deleted.
2. Would it be best to buy a euro data bundle from t-mobile,I don't intend using the phone for anything else,apart from perhaps an odd call or text.
3. Try another Navigation app,have tried Andnav2 but can't seem to extract the maps onto my phone and have tried it where I live and it wanted to send me a longer route down country lanes rather than the direct route.
4. Buy a French PAYG SIM card with some data allowance,could be difficult as my French is not that fluent!
5. Buy a Navigation app such as Destinator 9,don't really want to pay for something like that. Perhaps I could get away with the trial period.
6. Scrap the whole idea and use some thing like mapdroid,or just buy a road map.
I just want to get to my destination without paying a fortune or running up a huge bill without knowing it.
