Android :: Wireless Shortcut Wifi Gps?
Apr 12, 2010This is going to seem like a strange question, which may end in me seeming very delusional, but I will try to explain as best as I can.
I just got my new Samsung Moment and have been playing around with it. And I let my 7 year old nephew play with it. He was on the home screen pressing something on the screen or the buttons, when a giant (i think it was a) battery thing that had like 4 different options inside of it, Wifi [on off] Gps [on off] 3g or something [on off] and bluetooth [on off]. It was a really quick way to turn those wireless options on and off. And he doesnt remember how he got their and I didnt see. Hopefully we werent just seeing things.

May 10, 2010i accidentally held my finger on the wifi symbol at the bottom & it got removed.How do i put this back on the phone as a widget or shortcut?Whatever.It came with the bluetooth & wifi on the one screen when you buy the phone.I tried to find it but no luck?

May 24, 2010I'm having to move networks from Virgin back to o2.
I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...

Aug 17, 2010Does anyone know how, if it's even possible, to create a shortcut on your home screen to send a pre-defined SMS message? For instance an SMS to say your on your way home or something my pressing only one icon?
I've managed to make it start a new blank message but not open a pre-defined one and send it automatically.
HTC Desire :: Unable To Remove Shortcut
Jul 3, 2010I've got a problem with a shortcut i can't remove, due to it being located beneath the phone tab on the start screen.
The edge of the shortcut is barely visable under the phone tab, making it impossible for me to click and remove it.
I've tried factory reseting the phone, but the shortcut is still there

Oct 12, 2010I was just wandering if there is a shortcut to find the exact battery level on my Desire? I know you can go the 4636 route but thats slightly long winded, and most battery widgets/notification bar icons actually seem to use battery (i have properly tested this!). I know you can go into 'about phone' and do it that way but that just shows it as a series of bars, not as an actual figure.

Nov 11, 2010For some reason on the main screen on my new htc desire hd the shortcut images of my contacts seem to be very blurry and hard to make out. Is there a setting to make it more clear, also my contacts list the pics down the side are blurry to. I am sure it was clearer on my other htc I had. Also when I scroll up and down on the main screen the icons seem to very slightly flicker
is this normal?

I have created a shortcut using astro manager to this document on my homescreen, however when clicking the shortcut all it does is open the pdf viewer and list all the pdf documents.

Sep 7, 2010I've been having fun customizing the look of my phone and getting more and more out of it. Recently I've been making custom shortcuts as I like having different icons. What I don't like is that there's a label on the Icon. The icon pack I am currently using is Manups Simple Word. What happens is when I create a Shortcut to the market for example the Icon shows in text Market Stock and then beneath it the Label Market. I don't like that if read together it becomes Market Stock Market
Is there a way I can remove the labels from shortcuts? I am currently running Froyo with LauncherPro using folder organizer and I also have anycut. The solution must not involve rooting or using any paid apps as well I can't get paid apps here. I read here Is it possible to strip HTC Sense UI from the HTC Desire? that Helix has the option to remove labels from shortcuts. I'll rather not move to Helix and stay with launcherpro.
HTC Desire :: Better Multi-action Contacts Shortcut
Jun 15, 2010I like the HTC contacts widget, but i'd like it to be horizontal instead of taking up the a half of a page.
Is there a similar widget that can be shown horizontal?
If not, is there a widget/app to help with this......
I have quickdial shortcuts on the home screen, but as it's only a call or message, i find i've got a couple duplicated.
What i'd like is the same picture shortcut, but if you press or hold it, then a slide-off or drop-down will show to select action, be it call, sms, email etc. (With the bonus of setting the default action).

I can get to it through "maps" but its a little long winded any help would be great.

HTC Desire :: Google Talk Shortcut In People Gone - FroYo Bug?
Aug 16, 2010I've been running the official OTA HTC FroYo update for a few weeks now and haven't really had any problems. However, today I noticed that the Google Talk shortcut when tapping a contact's photo has disappeared and has been replaced with another Phone icon. When clicking this icon I am prompted to choose from a list of completely unrelated applications to complete the action with? Google Talk is NOT listed on this screen. This icon only shows up on contacts who are online on Google Talk, so I assume that the 2.2 update has somehow broken the Talk shortcut in the phonebook?

I clicked some of activities listed, and most would do nothing/just open normally, apart from when I chose "People" and came across a dialer screen that I've never seen before:
It's listed under "People com.android.htcdialer" and looks quite nice but I haven't figured out a way to access it apart from navigating through the Google Talk error! Has anyone else seen this screen?

Oct 8, 2010I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

Oct 20, 2010I'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?

Nov 16, 2010I'm having an issue with my new Desire HD in that it won't connect to my home Wifi. It can find the network no problem and select it, but after I type in the password it says "Disconnected" then seems to go through Disconnected-Scanning-Connecting-Disconnected loop without letting me know whats happening. Initially I thought to myself "Perhaps it doesn't like WPA2", so I completely opened up the network. Then after scanning, it was showing on the phone that the network was still WPA/WPA2. I tried connecting to it anyways but it still asked me for a password and wouldn't let me through without one. Thinking something funky must have happened, I restarted the phone but it didn't change anything.

Nov 28, 2010I regularly charge my phone overnight and always have every possible sych set to manual so I only update exactly whe I want to. However, when I wake up I find that the wifi has swithched itself on. I am thinking that I have an update turned on somewhere but cannot think which one it might be.
Is this auto turn on wifi enabled from some other kind of process?
Also, as you might have tried this, what is the concensus of the following method of charging the battery:
To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well
I have tried this but am not sure I'm getting much more than a regular 8 hour overnight charge. (My phone is getting average use over the day).
HTC Desire HD :: Won't Connect To Wifi
Oct 27, 2010Recieved the Desire HD yesterday but it won't connect to my Wifi (although it says it is connected) as when I try to access the market, web browser, gmail it won't connect unless I switch on my 3G connection. Frustrating as I wanted to download maps and really can't do this on my mobile content allowance.

Aug 25, 2010I have recently updated to Froyo/2.2 on my HTC Desire (on Vodafone contract). According to Vodafone this is now the standard HTC firmware with none of their nonsense installed. Now I cannot connect to wifi either at home or work. It can see the wireless networks OK, but gets stuck in a loop trying to connect - it seems to be trying to obtains an IP address, gives up and starts again endlessly. Having searched around the web this seems to be a common 2.2 issue. I've tried many times with forgetting the credentials, etc and have done the full factory reset. Not sure what to do next.
