HTC Desire : Need To Know My Partition - Filesystem / Left Space For App?
Sep 15, 2010
Im totally new to the smartphone/android topic and very happy that i managed to partition/debrand/root my Desire and flashed LeDroids Rom on it! ^^ ( im a windows XP user )But i have some questions about my partition and filesystem: I have a 4 GB SDCARD and a 512MB Partition on it for the apps. So i figured out there is a mnt folder that seems to be like an exact copy of my SDCARD folder.
How do i know what my partition is ?
And how do i know how much space is left there for Apps?
When i plug in my Phone via micro usb and browse my SD card i dont see a MNT folder. Does that mean the MNT folder is the main partition (3,5bg?) ? Because when i download a youtube video via jetVD (i was prompted to use a download folder on my SDCARD) it saves the videos under: mntsdcardmovies (also my player shows the path to that directory)but the movie files are also available under: sdcardmovies
Could somebody explain that. btw: i use the app SUFBS to browse the SDCARD on my Desire.

While on holiday my HTC Desire starting reporting that it was running out of space. It could never figure exactly what was taking up the space unfortunately, but I assume one of my apps was using a stupid amount of data.
Anyway on the last day of my holiday the phone refused to boot at all. It shows the HTC screen, then the carriers custom splash screen (T-Mobile), then reboots and goes back to the HTC screen in an endless loop.
I booted the device into the recovery console and received the following errors:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:Error in DATA:data/recovery/log
(No Space left on device)
I'm aware that I could do a factory reset, but I don't really want to lose all of my apps, scenes and other data if I can possibly help it.
I found one site where a guy claimed to have been able to fix the problem by connecting to the device using adb and then deleting some files, but I can't get adb to recognise the phone. 'adb devices' always returns nothing.
So, can anyone tell me how to get my phone (which won't boot into anything other than fastboot and recovery) to connect to adb so I can wipe some files? Will the phone have to be rooted to do this? (It isn't).
Do I have any other options other than a factory reset?

On Sunday I started getting the message "Low on space Phone Storage space is getting low." on the status bar. When I tap it, I'm taken to the "Manage Applications" screen, so it's clear that the message refers to the "Phone Memory," where apps are stored But when I go to Settings > SD card & phone storage here's what I see:
SD Card Total Space: 14.83GB
SD Card Available Space: 6.15GB
Internal Phone Storage Total Space: 6.60GB
Internal Phone Storage Available Space: 6.51GB
Phone Memory Total Space: 748MB
Phone Memory Available Space: 332MB
I've googled looking for solutions and it's obvious that this is a fairly common problem - especially on HTC phones. But the only possible solutions I've found are:
Too many apps are installed & space really is running low
A "bad" app was recently installed causing this error
Clear the cache for HTC Mail and HTC Message apps
Perform a Factory Reset We can rule this out since there is more than 44% of the Phone Memory available.
I didn't install any apps immediately before getting the message, but to be sure I uninstalled the 10 most recently added apps. No luck.
I've gone to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, but the cache for these apps is already zero. The "Data" for Mail is 2.22MB and for Messages is 812KB.
This isn't fixing the problem, it's just a way to eliminate whatever condition has caused the symptom. But without an explanation of the actual problem I see no reason to think the problem won't come back in another two months.

I got a wierd problem with android emulator, I have created a virtual device through Android AVD manager (newly created emulator with platform 2.1 and api level 7), I have tried with standard settings and with added hardware parameter for larger (256 mb) device ram size but nothing changed.
I need to come files to the system partition to test a project (called haggle), but for some reason the system partition has no space from start.

I'm not very familiar with Android OS, I recently purchased a NOBIS 9, 1.5GHz Cortex A9 Dual-Core processor, 1GB DDR2 of system memory, and 8GB of internal storage running on Android 4.1. So far I have only downloaded and installed exactly 7 apps from Google Play and all my pictures and videos are in my SD card and I suddenly have no storage room. When I go to settings/storage, I see that there are 2 partitions to the tablet's storage both named INTERNAL STORAGE. Apparently all the apps are being installed in one of the partitions, the one with only 661 MB of space. I was able to go into the APPS setting and move 4 off the apps to the SD card, but the rest of the apps do show the MOVE TO SD CARD option but are not allowing me to press it.
Is there any way to somehow move the apps to the other partition or the SD card? Or is there a setting that I can change to allow all new apps to be installed in the SD card?

I'm planning on increasing my EXT2 partition space to around 4-5GB as I only have 100mb left of 2.5GB.
Do I have to copy and paste my EXT2 files to my main partition of the SD Card and change the partition size and paste it back into EXT2?
Is it also possible if I do this without having to lose all of my data?

I am trying to edit the hosts file to access rest services in my local network. Using adb pull I am able to get the hosts file for the emulator and edit it. However I get the error "No space left on device" when I do an adb push.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Can we increase the space for /system? If so how? Are there any other easier ways to access local area network (without creating a DNS server).

I have been developing my app for around two months, in the last week i have started getting the following error when trying to compile and run the app from Eclipse:java.io.IOException: Unable to upload file: No space left on device. The APK comes out at 3.6Mb and the emulator is a recently created fresh one with 512Mb SD card and other specs identical to the G1.Can anyone suggest a reason this might be happening?

I am running rooted stock Android 2.3 on LG E405 (no working 4.x ROMs exist for the device)
I have two questions:
1) What is the shell command to manually make android allow the PC to mount androids' (internal) partition as USB-drive? (I cannot think of right keywords to google this one up - )
2) How does android determine which partition is which (i.e. which one to remount for the PC when connecting in "USB storage" mode), beside vold.fstab and init.rc? On android 2.3 that info is not in "framework-res.apk", so where is it? In the partition table itself?
I had switched data partition with internal sdcard partition.
Here's how: Phone had a very small "/data" partition on /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 and large internal "/sdcard" partition on mmcblk0p20
So I reformatted mmcblk0p20 (ex-sdcard partition) into EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 (ex-data partition) into FAT32
Then I changed init.rc to mount mmcblk0p20 as /data type EXT4 and mmcblk0p21 as /sdcard type VFAT (mounting /sdcard was commented out in stock init.rc for some reason). This required modifying my boot image.
I have also set correct partition number in vold.fstab:
[#]dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host[/#]
So basicly I now have a large /data partition and small internal /sdcard. I'm able install up to a gigabyte of APKs and it works fine.
However, when I connect to my PC via USB into "USB Storage" mode, the phone seems to still try to unmount what was previously sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p20), instead of what is NOW an sdcard partition (/dev/block/mmcblk0p21) I can still send files to the phone via wi-fi and ADB, but the ability to mount it directly would be nice.
If I accidentally select "erase internal sdcard" from storage menu, that will also most likely erase what is now my /data partition, softbricking the phone. The "factory reset" option will probably only corrupt the sdcard.

I'm have been trying to create a second partition on my sd card using miniTool Partition Wizard. But in the end I never get a 2nd partition but just a smaller first one.My approach is as follows:
insert empty SD card (FAT32, 4GB)
open miniTool Partition Wizard
right click on SD card - "Move/Resize"
choose 1gb for unallocated space after - click ok
right click on 2nd partition and choose "create"
create 2nd partition with FAT32/Ext2/Ext3 (tried all options already) and "primary" and Cluster 4KB - click ok
Apply
Afterwards my SD card is still shown as one partition, but this has just 1gb less capacity then before.Neither the Wizard nor the phone detects the 2nd partition then.

I can't figure what is exactly meaning the Partition Sdcard values in CWM.
I have an i9000, with 8Gb of flash. Some are system reserved. Available is around 6Gb.
When i run CWM, i can partition my sdcard, but i don't see what means the possible values (for 256 to 4096).
This is obviously not ruling the space left on /sdcard mountpoint (i partition to 2048, i still have nearly 6Gb available)... So what exactly means partition sdcard from CWM ??
i can't find an answer, and i dislike, when flashing rom, following commands i don't really master (generally a partition SD 2048 / SWAP 256 or SWAP 0).

I recently rooted my htc desire using revoked 3.21 but and inserted a new 8 GB sd-card, the thing I am wondering now is how to partition this sd-card to use the mod apps to SD. I thought there should be an option in the Clockworkmod screen, but I cant find it.

I was planning on flashing a ROM. Basically, I created a partition for Apps2SD and I was unsure if it had created or not. I used Quick System Info, and it said "information unavailable", so I'd assumed it hadn't worked. I think it has worked, as I only have 14.35GB of my 16GB card remaining, and I'm sure I had a lot more than that available, even with the contents I previously had on it. How can I remove the partition to make the SD card "whole again" so I can begin this process again?

I'm having issues with sticking a new SD card in my Rooted Desire. I am running the NeoPhyTe Mod v1.8 Sense-FroYo 2.2 ROM, and it seems great (before I was running Pays Desire Rom which had the same problem, so it's not the ROM).My old 4gb card was partitioned with 512mb for Apps to SD (I can't even remember how I did this now, but I seem to recall it being really easy, I think I used ROM Manager), and worked flawlessly. The new card can be seen in Windows 7 when I go into recovery on the phone and select mount USB Storage, and I seem to be able to get into it to format the card, but when I reboot, the phone hangs at the HTC screen. There is nothing on the card apart from the ROM I installed.I've tried partitioning it in Recovery with ADB/Clockwork, but Parted will not load/work. I've tried...well, everything I could find over the last 4 hours to try to sort this out. It should be a simple task, surely!?

I am following the thread below but when I get to the parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 part its not working. Anyone got any idea's? Probably just me being dumb! Have tried googling it but all a bit confusing

I have bought a cheap chinese phone that had a 4g rom. 512mb is mapped to data as p3 and p4 is mapped to internal storage which is 2g.
I have managed to work out how to delete partition4 and extend partition3 as they follow on from each other.
However how do I remove all links to it in the system as it still tries to mount it on boot even though it isn't there.
I have removed the line from vold.fstab and that just crashed the external and internal sdcards and the storage section inside the system settings.

my Desire is rooted with T-Mod, but i'm looking to update from the standard 2GB(i know right?) to the biggest I can possibly find. The only thing is I'm worried about the fact that this card has been partitioned when I rooted it, am I going to have to start from scratch and re-root? Or do I just partition the new one, install the ROM on the partition (? I don't really know what I'm talking about with this), and then transfer everything over once that's done?
I was looking at classes.. I've seen class 10 SD cards but can only seem to find up to class 6 in 16GB microSD and up to class 4 in 32GB microSD... I don't think i'll need 32GB, I was only getting it because I might decide to, I don't know, listen to my entire music collection without coming home in between? I guess I was just getting 32gb because I'm kind of into "Do it once, do it right." But if it's going to slow my phone down I'll just go for a 16gb...
