HTC Desire :: Charging Practice - Use Till Dead?
Oct 20, 2010I've found lots of tips and tricks, but not really the answer to what i am looking for. Should I be waiting until my phone is dead to charge, or simply charge when ever I want to maximize my battery life?

Nov 5, 2010Ii haven't made any big changes to my Desire and all was working well. suddenly a couple of days ago i noticed that things slowed down significantly.
exmples: when drawing the unlock screen, there is a big lag till the home screen comes up huge lag in opening programmes or menus
so, the only app i recently installed was the BA (british airways) android app. could this have affected the whole phone?
what steps can i take to check what might be wrong?looking at the SPARE PARTS app, i can see that CPU usage shows a huge bar for "init".i don't know if this is a normal process? anyone got info on this? might have nothing to do with my phone lagging of course.

May 27, 2010I've been waiting and waiting and now I'm not going to be able to get my coveted EVO til the beginning of July. Spent the money on signing my children up for summer activities instead. Yeah, yeah, I'm af*cking martyr and all that. Damn schools for getting out in the summer and children needing exercise and entertainment!

Sep 24, 2010Firstly I am new to android so please forgive any ignorance below. My Questions are; I really need a phone upgrade (iphone 3g being a proper drag!) and the HD looks great, but with 3.0 scheduled (from what I have read) to come out around xmas I am tempted to hold off till then. Can anyone shed light on when the next HTC uberphone would be expected to come out? I can probably wait till Xmas before upgrading, and maybe a little longer, but otherwise I'll go for the HD in October.

Nov 23, 2010Once we call the startService() method, can we keep the service alive until its explicitly stopped by the user? I want my service to stay alive until the phone is switched off. How can i do this? The idea is that when I receive an incoming call, I want to start recording and once the status changes to idle, I want to stop the recording. I am doing this inside my service. It does work sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. How can I implement such a thing in a service? Can someone help me with this?

Oct 17, 2010I update the html in a webView using loadData() followed by a reload(). I get the new data to display but the scroll of the page has not updated.I want to keep the view of the page at the bottom. I can wait a long time and it still doesn't update.Once I click the webView the scroll bars adjust and I can drag to the bottom of the page and see the new text.Things I have tried:
- multiple settings and calls in onPageFinished(). None worked because the getContentHeight() hasn't changed yet.I have also tried to scrollTo(100 + getContentHeight) and that doesn't work.
- pageDown(true)
still no good, thinking i could simulate my click.adding a few br tags. This worked a bit, but the number of br's has to equal the number of lines of new text. Since the number of new lines is not something that can be exactly determined based on orientation and screen variables it's not a good fix.

May 13, 2010The default behavior of an activity when BACK softkey is pressed is, GO BACK TO PREVIOUS ACTIVITY. If some the same activity is waiting for some response from server or some data updation is going on and then press BACK, I want to wait on the same screen till the current task is completely processed and then move out to the previous activity.

Since then I found a few bugs which I have fixed and uploaded a new version.In the Developer Console, it still shows the version number as the original (v0.8.0) but the last version uploaded is different (v0.9.0).If I check the market on my phone, then the update is not even showing.How long before they show?Can I check if there are any errors with my upload process? Does a different filename for the apk matter?

Nov 3, 2010I'm considering selling my 5/6month old Desire to fund the purchase of a sim free HD.
Hopefully I'd only end up spending around 150-200 for it.
Is the jump up worth it? I'm a sucker for upgrade and I have to say the HD looks nicer than the Desire, but obviously it's what inside that count. Apparently.
One big thing is the whole htcsense.com thing, and with confirmation of the Desire getting support for that still quite unclear and apparently unlikely, I'm leaning towards getting the HD...

Jul 19, 2010I've been having reception issues with Orange and they are sending me a new handset to see if that is the problem. If I drag all the data from the old SD card to my computer and then back over to the new SD card, will that keep all the setting form the HTC backup settings? Or do I have to point it in the right direction.

HTC Desire :: Using Telus HTC Desire On Rogers Network - No SIM Card In Phone - Error
Oct 8, 2010I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

Jul 18, 2010My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

Aug 1, 2010I have posed this question in some threads but as yet have made no progress.I am just curious as to why HTC appear to have left out the Bluetooth Voice Dialler function that can be provided by the Froyo 2.2 O/S. I believe this feature is present and enabled in some of the cooked roms and also in the Nexus one Vanilla 2.2 so why not here?If I have missed somthing simple or if anyone is aware why it is missing or how I can activate it that would be fantastic!

Sep 17, 2010I have a problem with an HTC Desire. I have an emailaddress that does not require authentication for the outgoing mail. I've unchecked the "authentication required" tickbox and saved the settings.
Somehow the phone automatically resets the Authentication setting and there I can't send email.
My question: how can I prevent the Desire from automatically place a checkmark next to "Authentication Required"?

HTC Desire :: Playing Windows Media Video Files On Desire
Jun 2, 2010I'm new to the Android OS having been a Symbian (2nd phone is a Nokia N97) and Windows Mobile user previously. My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?
