Samsung I7500 :: Firmware Updates

Oct 22, 2009

I have an unlocked 02-germany Galaxy on Orange UK. This was all news to me today that the Galaxy users aren't entitled to Over-The-Air updates nor is it apparently a "Google" phone in the same way the HTC G1 is. (Samsung, when are we getting Donut?). I'm not clear what the distinction is. Maybe someone can tell me. This is a big let down to be honest, I wouldn't have probably bought the device if I knew this. Even app updates nots don't come through and my bro has been showcasing Donut on his G1 (also on Orange UK) all morning to make matters worse. Any news on when we get donut now? Is this the only non-OTA updated Android device. How does one confirm this? I presume the Magic is however.

Samsung Galaxy S :: Firmware Updates

Jul 27, 2010

Okay, start at the start! got this phone (unlocked pay as you go) from Clove (Excellent) and put my o2 pay as you go sim inside, and straight away im on 3g no problems.....

Then..... See some nice new firmware, (JM2) and think i will have some of that! (Install with odin, not using CSC file Initially, then using CSC -- EURO ? not UK specific? file included with update

And now....

On both counts i have had to manually install the apn settings, (no problem)

But....

Apps are missing from the market place, (new google id & with & without csc file)

Im thinking the CSC file is more important than we think, in that it holds APN information for UK operators, and that when you go into marketplace this CSC file reflects a UK phone in some way, and displays according apps

Battle for Mars ... only the lite version is available HistoryEraser ... is no longer available etc etc...

So two things can anyone with JM2 see those apps?, and other thing I have a feeling that Kies won't update our phones to the latest firmware (Eventually) if our csc file reflects that our phone is a EURO phone, not neccesarily a problem if you use odin but you know what i mean!

Other thing that i wasnt aware of ... using odin resets battery stats. On xda developers there is a fix for this

Last thing......

Can someone who can see these apps upload the csc file somehow.

Samsung Moment :: Firmware Updates

May 29, 2010

I didn't do a before/after comparison of the firmware in my Moment, during the upgrade to 2.1. But did a firmware update come along with 2.1, or was that strictly an upgrade of the Android software?

Maybe there's something there, that would resolve the CDMA lockups that we sometimes encounter, since the 2.1 update didn't entirely solve the problem.

Maybe we'll see an update from Sprint/Samsung.

HTC Hero :: Getting Latest Firmware Updates For Vodafone

Jan 9, 2010

I recently got a brown Hero from Carphone Warehouse on Vodafone (30, 300 mins, unl.txt & data, 24 months) and I'm over the moon with it. I'm so glad I didn't do what all the sheep in my office have done and get an iphone.

I had read that the Hero is pretty laggy but a firmware update would sort it out. It does lag sometimes, yeah but no big deal. I thought I'd still get the firmware update though, so I've been checking out the best way to do it. Here's the problem: On the HTC download page the generic ROM upgrade is v.2.73.405.5, but I'm already running 2.73.405.66, so I didn't install it. The 3UK users though get to download 2.73.771.73, but with my serial I can't get it.

How much difference do the firmare updates make? How can I get the latest one? I'm feeling a bit gutted that only 3 and Orange are getting properly supported by the folks at HTC. Why not support the other networks in this way?

HTC EVO 4G :: Coming Sprint Firmware Updates For Rooted Phones

Jun 7, 2010

Just picked up the EVO 4G and looking to root in order to remove the Sprint apps and other bloatware (Peep, Footprints, etc.). I'm just trying to find out if it will be possible to use OTA Sprint firmware updates (i.e. the inevitable 2.2 down the road) once the phone is rooted, and if so, will it reset the phone (delete all data) or merely revoke root access? Down the line, I'm not so concerned about having root access, mostly right now with removing the excess.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Firmware Updates For E10a

Nov 1, 2010

I have an X10 Mini unbranded, bought in Brazil, having the model number E10a, as I guess everyone in America continent has.

My question is: why do Europe get so many firmware updates and we just stay still? I'm saying that because as I was reading many forums about X10 Mini, I constantly seeing firmware updates, maybe I'm wrong, and the FW numbers differs from E10a and E10i.

So, my question is, FW 1.2.A.1.174 for the E10i is the same as 1.1.A.0.9 for the E10a? If they're both the same, no problem, but I don't think they're the same.

HTC Wildfire :: Firmware Updates And Internal Phone Storage

I noticed my phone only has 147mb of internal storage left, this doesn't seem like a lot to me and the update is 13mb. Is this normal? I've downloaded a few apps from the Android Market and I'm guessing they are on the phone's internal storage space. Is there anyway I can put these apps onto the SD card?

HTC Wildfire :: Unbranded Wildfire Can't Get Firmware Updates

Sep 26, 2010

I have an unbranded HTC Wildfire, but it doesn't download any firmware updates. At the moment my software number is 1.14.110.1 and I know that there's an update to 1.25.405.1. But when I want to check for Software updates it says that there are none. What might be the problem?

Is it possible that the phone is still branded but without a sim-lock? Because I get T-Mobile start up screen, but use whole other SIM and there's no T-Mobile in the country i'm from.

Android :: Looper - Prepare

Sep 27, 2010

I'm trying to initialize OpenFeint in my game like this:

CODE:...........

Result: 1. OpenFeint initialization sometimes take so song(network actions?). It blocks the main thread. 2. My application remains in onCreate() for too long. 3. My Dev Phone One display ANR(application not responding) dialog prompting me to choose between 'Force Close' and 'Wait' 4. Soon after that, OpenFeint has done its things and my game shows up behind the dialog. 5. Now pressing 'Wait' will dismiss the ANR dialog and I can continue my game properly.

But obviously we don't want ANR dialog. So now I put it in a Thread like this:

CODE:...............

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Result: Problem solved. Everything seems to run fine now.

I put Looper.prepare() there because my game will crash if I don't. The log message told me to put it there. I put Looper.loop(); there because OpenFeint will not initialize at all if I don't. I've read the doc about Looper but honestly I don't understand what the doc says.

Question 1. The doc also tell me this: ------------------------------------------------- public static final void loop ()

Since: API Level 1 Run the message queue in this thread. Be sure to call quit() to end the loop. -------------------------------------------------- Can anyone explain when & where should I call quit()?

Question 2 What will happen if I don't call Looper.quit()?

Question 3 Let me ask this straight. Am I taking the correct approach? Is there some kind of loop running alongside my game all the time if I do this?

Android :: Prepare The UI From The Webservice

Aug 30, 2010

Playing around with the UI and SQLLite for a while and it looks pretty good to me . We have a requirement that for the App that all the questions would be coming from the server through REST / Web service which would be displayed on the App..

say for e.g if there are 4 questions
1) Enter your Name -- Text Box
2) Did you sleep well last night -- YES / NO
3) How many hours did you sleep - Text Box
4) How did you hear about us -- Drop down

So the requirement is that the Questions would be displayed on the App after doing a SYNC with the server during the SYNC with the server the Questions would be downloaded from the SERVER through REST / Web service..if the phone is not connected then pull the questions from the Database...

These questions are simple questions and they change quite often and we have a similar app which is there for iphone which does this ....

Android :: Media Recorder Prepare Causes Segfault

Mar 28, 2010

I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. In the log i see (after the segfault announcement) a register dump and then a numbered list #00 libmedia_jni.so to #18 linker, then a stack trace. My Eclipse won't let me copy the log buffer, but I've done three screen captures that sum it up. If you have time to examine, send me a direct e-mail.<pre><code> if (mRecorder == null) mRecorder = new MediaRecorder(); mRecorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC); mRecorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA); mRecorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.MPEG_4); mRecorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB); mRecorder.setVideoEncoder(MediaRecorder.VideoEncoder.MPEG_4_SP);// mRecorder.setVideoSize(640, 480); // mRecorder.setVideoFrameRate(20); mRecorder.setPreviewDisplay(surfaceHolder.getSurface()); mRecorder.prepare();mRecorder.start(); </code></pre> I've tried other variants, including H263 and 3gp. What else can I do to debug this? Everythin g seems fine up to prepare(). I tried adding the onErrorListener, but it seems to interfere with the MediaPlayer's onErrorListener. I'm using a 4-second beep-count to prepare for auto triggering of the camera, and when I enable the error handler for the MR everything in my handler state machines goes awry.

Have a battery near full all the time?
Backup your Aps?
Backup contacts?

Since I am assuming you can get the update without warning, I just wanted to know what steps to take, so I can have no problems with an OTA update.
