Dec 17, 2012
I'm trying rsync my sdcard to my linux desktop.
I've installed "rsync backup for android" and press "download binaries"
However, on the terminal typing "rsync" doesnt find anything (also when su).
Where does this app install the rsync binaries?

Whenever I try to make a backup using carbon it says I'd need to set the desktop backup password blank, but I already tried that a few times and it always gives me the same error. What do I need to do to make it work? I'm using an xperia s on ics.

When I try to recover my apps using Titanium Backup's "Extract from Nandroid" feature, it says "Could not find any data in this TWRP backup"
The files in my TWRP backup folder are
data.ext4.win000
data.ext4.win001
data.ext4.win002
md5 for the above
recover.log

I'd like to know if there's a way to use Titanium Backup to preform a backup and then transfer those backups to my computer ?
I know this may sound simple but am under the impression that when you make a backup of your ROM and other files on your device, it has to stay on the device.
When making a NANDROID backup, is it safer and more useful if one can store those backups on one's computer ?
Am sure there's a way to do this but am not sure if there's already an app for it.

Im trying to do the backing up of my application's data into the Google Servers.. For doing this i've implemented a BackupAgent in my code and i included this in the Android Manifest file and "Meta-data" ( Got after registered my Application's package with the Android Backup Service.) When i run the application to do the backup this is not performing the backup.. Im using Nexus one device(connected to WIFI also). why it is not calling my BackupAgent's onBackup() method?? Am i missing some thing, to include in the Android manifest file or some where in the program?

I've recently switched from an iPhone 4 to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Any software that does a complete backup of phone to my PC similar to what iTunes does for the iPhone? Note: I would prefer not to root the brand-new phone since I understand that voids the warranty. Also, a backup to SD card is not possible since the phone does not include one.

I have a Galaxy Nexus, unrooted and with a locked bootloader. I want to root it, unlock it whatever and install some ROMs on it. I need to save all the texts and photos I've taken with it.
But most backup programs don't work without root/unlocked bootloader. I spent 6 hours trying to install Carbon App Sync to backup my files, but it doesn't offer me the option of saving to PC, which is what the free option is supposed to have. (I synced it with the Desktop program). I have the choice of saving to internal memory, which is great, except that the Gnex doesn't have a SD card (pushing us into using your cloud google) and so any backup I make will be wiped out when I root/unlock the bootloader.
It seems such a simple thing, but Android and all these apps have made it nearly impossible. I just want to get my texts and photos off this phone before I root it.

I know that a Android backup is a snapshot of a system image. I wish to know if this backup will also include language files in a multi-language ROM.I bought a Lenovo phone (S890) but it only came with Chinese and English, My friend has the same phone but his came with a Multi-language ROM. I thought since we both have the same phone we can try and install the same recovery software on both phones. I can then create a Android backup on his phone and use that backup on my phone to get Multi-lang too.

I flashed cwm 6.0.3.2 to my device samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2 jellybean, rooted, using a tutorial on xda. One of the reasons I flashed it was to create a nandroid backup. But when I try to backup my phone, it backs up boot image, recovery, system, and then it begins backing up data. After some time I got an error, "error while creating backup image of /data". Also when I rebooted my device after this, I saw that my external sd card (where the backup was getting stored) was totally full. So is this a problem with my storage?? Do I need more free space to create a Android backup?? Btw, I have 2 GB free memory on my external sd card.

I just bought an Asus TF300T today and the battery is charging at the moment.
I should back the Android ICS operating system as soon as possible and know how to restore the OS in the future.
This does indeed sound like good advice as I can and do make images of my Windows 7 OS with Acronis and from time to time I use these images to get rid of crudd and get the OS back to top speed.
So, how do I make an image of my new operating system on my Android device and how do I use this image to restore order when the proverbial hits the fan at a future date.

I have an Android LG Optimus Q (through Straight Talk). Because I wanted a screenshot app and to be able to have more "internal" memory, I rooted my device today and did a couple of other things.
1) I first rooted my device (and therefore installed SuperUser)
3) I installed Terminal Emulator
2) I downloaded CWM
3) I made a back-up (it said Done...)
4) I installed ROM Manager
5) I created (or at least I think so, since I went through all the steps) a second partition in my SD so I could create more "memory" destined to be used by programs.
6) I downloaded Link2SD and moved a couple of things to (I think...) the second partition in the SD
Everything was going ok, even though I wasn't sure if the partition had been created or not because I couldn't find a way to check it... until I went to check my 800 pictures and... they were all gone!!! I decided not to freak out at first because I remembered that I had made a backup directly through CWM... so I tried retrieving it through there... and nothing - nothing found... WTF?!
So I tried checking for the backup through ROM Manager, and... NOTHING! There must be a way to at least recover the files... You know, like when you accidentally delete stuff in your camera you can still recover it with a program... is there anything like that? or steps I should follow to recover the backup? I had pictures of my kid there and I just REALLY don't want to count them as lost.

I have a little experience using computers from late 1995 Year, and from year 2000 I am using also Linux from time to time, and very rare but it was a delight freeBSD. I have no experience on Android and MacOs.
Now, I all my family (father, mother, girlfriend and I) changed the phones on Android which is Linux based, but for ARM processors.
Anyway, I have played a little with Android 4 x86 on my laptop. From, my point of view, a Android Smartphone is just a little computer like an raspberry pi / pandaboard / beagle board. So, a mini computer with an Arm processor running a very small and tiny operating system max 8 Gb, when on my gentoo install I had been using about 30-40 Gb. I know, the size can be affected by the compiling flags but anyway.
Now, on all my system I had, from my experience I did 2 Backups, like this:
My laptop is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 1, and the External Hardisk number 1 is backed-up on the External Hardisk number 2.So, as it is a good practice to have a backup handy, I keep 2 backups in 2 different location in case of hardware failure / water flood etc. Some of the files I need are backed up in the cloud, on the internet.
I use to make IMAGES of the Operating System partition, and of the mbr , and of the partition table, with software like Acronis True Image, Paragon, DriveImage XML, Norton Ghost, Clone Zilla.
When I had to do data recovery I did an Acronis "sector-by-sector" approach image of the hardisk, and I recovered files from that image.
I assume that maybe I will need to get root on one or two phones, and one phone need's to be unlocked from the carrier.
Before doing this I would like to make a full backup of the phones.
1) How can I make a FULL backup of the android phones? In this moment my mother phone is a samsung galaxy mini2 Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 s6500 and mine is Sony Xperia L
2) a) If I will "unlock" the phone from the carrier (locked on orange, but i wish to use also Vodafone, I tim, I wind, moviestar, o2 etc)
b) If I will "root" the phone to gain administrator acces on it
After step A) and B) if I will restore the original backup, the phone will be "locked" back to Orange, and "un-rooted", or it will be "unlocked" and "un-rooted"?
3) Instead of having an hardisk like computer have, I guess the smartphone is using an "usb-stick/sd-card/ssdhdd"-like memory for storage of the operating system, so how can I see the partition table, the mbr, on the device?

I was just wondering why the app size in android (Settings > Applications > Manage applications) is different to the size in Titanium backup (Overview of app storage use) and which one is the correct size?
eg. According to titanium backup, the total size of Jelly defense is 51.6MB whereas android says that it's 112KB
Angry Birds size is 18.5MB according to titanium but only 1.30MB in android.
Skype is 16.7MB according to titanium but only 2.11MB in android.
