General :: New Galaxy S4 Deleting All Gmail Contacts Synced In Phone And In Gmail
May 22, 2013why my S4 is deleting all my contacts from it. I have my contacts synced with my gmail contacts and this has been the case for years. I had a Samsung Infuse before this and have never had a problem. I've had the S4 for about 3 weeks now and this hasn't happened until yesterday. And since yesterday it has happened 3x's. At first I thought it was a Trulia app (realestate app) that I was using to try to call some realtors. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but the first 2 times I was on the app and my contacts disappeared. How I recovered them was through the contacts recovery feature on Gmail. I would be SOL if I were out and needed to call someone on my contacts list immediately and without access to my laptop.

May 19, 2014My S4 died from a smaller than hairline crack in the display - Cha-ching! $175The cat knocked my laptop-the same one on which I had just successfully re-flowed the video chip-off on the floor, breaking, of course!, the screen - ~$50 (when I get around to it)
Now, the first time I try to add some new tunes to my "new" phone, I can't manipulate any data on its SD card via WiFi. I can write, delete, move, rename, anything I want to/from the card from within the phone itself. Just not over WiFi.
I thought it was perhaps the app I was using so I tried another but same thing. The best error code I get is the highly informative "Operation Failed"-Period.
Is there some setting somewhere that holds sway over the ability to write to the SD card?
General :: Unable To Write Internal SD?
Sep 10, 2012I have a tablet with internal SD (nand one) and an external SD.
Now I can read contents in internal SD but can't write it. I checked up with root explorer, finding the file sysytem is "read only". After toggling it to R/W, the storage can be written by root explorer but still can't by other apps.

p.s. When connected to PC as massive storage device, it can be read and written.
General :: How To Write Recovery Fstab For CWM
Oct 18, 2012I am trying to port cwm 6.0.1.4 for my HTC Desire S via the cwm builder. Its running so far, but not exactly working, because it doesnt mount all partitions correctly. So i assume, there must be something wrong with my recovery.fstab. I used an older recovery.fstab i found on the internet, but maybe it hasnt got the right "options" to mount all partitions correctly.
So, how to make a working one? Which partitions are needed and how they have to be mounted?

ICS 4.0.3, kernel version 3.0
it came with some chinese apps etc (identifying which rom it was, i believe it was factory rom).I ask torrents to download in my sd card, it says error , permission denied .
EXT CARD SIZE: 2 gig only. manufactuer says tab supports upto 32 *gig card...card wroks fine on my nokia x2-00 phone
Investigation:
1)i tried creating directory in using File manager...it did, ...it didnt show option of deleting / pasteing something.
so i used es file explorer........when I asked it to delete that empty directory i created , it said error permission denied.
2)i try to paste something, it fails.
3)i try to delete something it fail.
So, FORMATTED the memory card (via pc...connected it as usb, formatted, ejected), TRY TO PASTE SOMETHING via tablet, it fails
General :: Can't Read / Write SD Card
Oct 23, 2012I did a backup using Titanium Backup and Go Backup and after wiping my Motorola Defy, tried to restore apps, contacts etc. The problems I encountered were:
1) Go Backup can't recognize backup directory on SD card for some reason.
2) Can't move apps to SD. An error occurs: "Move Application: Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left." Needless to say, I have more than enough storage.
This is was I encountered by far, although I believe these are just a small part of the symptoms for a single problem.
Maybe its because there are no permissions, or moving apps is impossible because of an existing app files on the SD card.
What is the actual cause for this? Or is there a tool to fix the permissions on the Defy?
General :: How To Write Files Into The Directory
Jun 21, 2012I'd like to know if there's a way to write files into the main directory just before the system shutdown, something like this:
End all processes (-> unmount disks?) -> mount /sdcard rw and / rw -> copy files from /sdcard to / -> unmount disks -> shutdown/reboot
Same with boot image (flash, in this case, and not copy / mod files)... is it possible? Or do I require to boot into recovery for these operations? I know I can remount as rw my system directory via ADB
Also, is it possible to do the same thing with the build.prop file? This, or during startup (before mounting partitions with standard permissions).
Of course, this having root (but not a special kernel to enable this kind of "before mounting" thing).
General :: CM9 - Unable To Write To SD Cards
Oct 2, 2012Few months ago i installed CM9 on my Galaxy Tab 7+. Everything worked fine to begin with, but after a while i was unable to delete stuff off my microsd card. I wound up buying a new card, copied the music and tv off the old card and installed it. Same problem. Now i have 2 microsd cards that I'm unable to write to at all. I can't write anything to them, can't delete anything off them and can't format them. I've tried using them both in my phone and on 3different Windows PCs with the same results. I have tried the SD card write fix referenced in the Galaxy Tab Plus development section and that didn't fix anything. The problem seems to be with the cards themselves, not the tablet (and phone and multiple pcs).

General :: Android Device Cannot Write Anything Into Flash
Sep 9, 2013I have a cell phone which name is Huawei Ascend P1. Now I have a problem, that is the devices can not bootup into Android's home and I can not write anything into flash, even using fastboot.
When booting, the screen stays on the welcome logo, and stay there forever, and adb could connect to linux shell on the phone. I can see all file on the phone, and I can save files after "mount -o remount / /", but after reboot, the file is gone.
If I use fastboot to flash a recovery into my phone, by follow command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
The command line prompt says OK, but when it reboots, it still reboot into the previous recovery.

May 6, 2013I have a rooted HTC One and I have granted SU permissions to SolidExplorer, however I still cannot seem to modify the /system folder for r/w access. When I select Properties > Attributes > Change, it has these boxes checked:
Yet, when I accept the changes, it is still only showing read access:
Even if I check all of the boxes when changing the attributes, the results are the same. I cannot copy or write files to this folder.

General :: Can't Write System Files In HUAWEI Honor C3
May 9, 2014I have tried to update my Honor C3 system updates. Then I noticed that I have completely lost root access. They removed su binary. Then I tried to root again my Honor C3 with VROOT and it is OK again. But I can't overwrite system files such as changing system DroidSans-fallback.ttf fonts and also installing framework of Xposed (Overwriting app_process). I can't even delete system files also.
I searched for firmware files for my phone and I can't seems to find it. There is root access and I even test it via Terminal Emulator app and from ADB. Calling su binary in Shell was OK but I can't access /system well. H30-U10

Feb 21, 2014Last day I have tried to root my Nexus 4, unlock boot-loader successfully but after that i was unable to root, some RND i have found that no file/images etc. are are not copying in Nexus Device, it seems to me that may be write permission is blocked in the storage!!! only i can copy files from Nexus to PC/other but not to Nexus Device.

General :: 64gb Micro SD Write Protected / Read-Only After Flashing ROM
Feb 10, 2014I have a M919V Galaxy S4 which is compatible with both the i9505 roms and M919 (TMO) roms. I was on a i9505 TW rom and I decided to download a rom from the TMO section. When moving from a i9505 rom to a M919 rom, I had to flash the recovery corresponding to the model. So I downloaded the T-Mobile version of Philz Recovery, but I got a status 7 error. Then I downloaded the md5 version and flashed it via odin 3.07. It was successful. After flashing the recovery, I flashed Beanstalk rom for the t-mobile variant. Everything went fine until I tried to make a android of my current setup for Beanstalk. I kept getting errors. When I plug my phone in (with my sd card), and try to add or delete something, it say "remove write protection and try again". So I tried connecting my sd card to my sd card adapter. When I delete files from my adapter, the error message doesn't show up. BUT... after disconnecting and reconnecting it again, the files are back where they were. I tried reformatting it but nothing happens. It seems like my sd card is only read as write protected when connected to my phone but it has no idea which state it's in when connected to the sd card adapter.

Jun 2, 2014I am using a mt6582m device with kitkat 4.4.2 with supersu. I can use root to write to system, data and cache using es file explorer, can also read and write to any sd card, but apps like titanium backup, online android backup, ram expander can't read/write to sd card.
Eg.1: ti backup read backups, can do all operation except backup and restore.
I had read a lot, changing backup path didn't worked nor any odex file is there. Using v6.1.5.6.
Eg. 2: ram expander can create swap file on sd but can read it saying 'not found'. Swap can be used with cache partition.
Eg. 3: online nandroid backup says pat not vaild.
I had tried, sd fix app, manually editing platform.xml, xposed module to 'handel external storage', change permissions using es file explorer, editing ramdisk.
There is storage/sdcard0 and 1
Also mnt/sdcard and mnt/sdcard2 (symlinked)
Also mnt/media_rw/sdcard0 and 1 (not readable even in es file explorer)

Feb 18, 2012I developed a cramfs rom for the np7 after user dochoppy found root for the nextbook premium 7 tablet, but he then converted to ext3 which because its packed with features will be more popular. So I am trying to edit his ext3 rom in Ubuntu 11.10 and here is what I do:
1. Copy and paste system.img to desktop
2. Create a folder called system on desktop
3. In command prompt:
cd ~/Desktop
Sudo mount -t ext3 -o loop system.img system
(Asks for pw)
4. Doc said something about only being able to edit as root, so after some Googling I find out how to create a program that grants root.
5. (Open "run as" program) then I type "nautilus /home"
(Asks for pw)
6. Navigate to mounted system and I have read/write privileges (but only in this window)
7. View the system mount properties, and it says I have 14.2 mb free space on device
8. Delete files throughout the system folder to make room (but when I refresh properties, free space increase doesn't show)
9. Try to add my own files after deleting some others, ans rather than using the increased space, it just fills the fourteen megs before telling me "device is out of memory "
why is the system not physically making the proper system increase and decreases.
General :: Huawei U8800 Ideos X5 V2.3.5 - Not Able To Mount System As Read / Write Properly
Nov 13, 2012I'm having a problem with ES file explorer. After several days I managed to root my HUawei U8800 Ideos X5 (Android 2.3.5) and obviously one of the next steps is installing CWMR. Unfortunately I'm failing here too. I tried to copy the recovery.img to the .cust_backup/image, but it keeps to say copy failed. Root access was given and I checked all four boxes in root settings. Someone in a german forum told me to update the binarys in SU, which failed too (it says sth like copy su to /system -> failed!). I'm not even sure ES FE would work if the binarys would be current.
I already tried the app Mount /system (rw / ro). It didn't work with this too.

Sep 11, 2010Googled this issue and can't seem to find the resolution. I am using the Gmail app which came pre-installed on the phone. I have entered my account details, I can send emails but I don't get a notification when I receive an email to my Gmail Inbox. I have checked the settings and I have setup a ringtone and selected the option to flag up an icon in the notification bar. However the only way I know I have an email is if I open the app. I have a task manager and Gmail is on the ignore list.

Jun 22, 2010This is my first post on the androidforums. I usually just read what other people wrote, but I can't seem to find a related post for my current problem.I date someone overseas in S. Korea, and since there's no way to send text msgs in Korean from here, I talk to her using activesync with a gmail account. She can check emails on her phone from Korea, and my phone sends me notification everytime I get an email from her. Basically it's same as texting except it allows me to type in Korean and doesn't cost a dime.For the reasons mentioned above, saving battery life isn't much of an option for me. I need to have activesync or gmail push running instantly. I tried using "check email every 5 minutes", but just imagine having to stay idle for 5 minutes everytime you text with your friends.
As of today, gmail push on android seems to work with 5 - 30 minutes delay (or manual refresh). However, Exchange Activesync will not even allow me to sync gmail (Different errors every time even though I'm putting the same information; gmail address,m.google.com as server address, username & password). I thought activesync just allows me to use "gmail push" on HTC mail app, so I don't quite understand why gmail app works (despite the lag), but activesync won't even let me sync my mail. Activesync last worked on 06/17/2010.Also, gmail push works with no lag when I'm on wifi. Is this normal?I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Sprint network or my phone. Gmail push also works instantly if my 3G bar is white. If it's greyed out, no emails come until the 3G bar turns white. Now I have to turn on AIM or MSN messenger to keep the data flowing and manually keep the 3G bar white. Then gmail push comes instantly. It's pretty ridiculous because the battery then lasts about 2-4 hours.
