General :: How To Update Kernel For HTC Phone From 3.0.16 To 3.0.61

Jan 30, 2013

I am trying to update kernel fot HTC phone from 3.0.16 to 3.0.61 , as far as i know the theoretical procedure should be:

1) revert 3.0.16 to 3.0.0
2) update 3.0.0 to 3.0.61
and compile

my problem is wen i try to revert the patch with:

Code:
patch -i /pathtopatch/patch-3.0.16 -R -p1 --dry-run

it give me:

Code:
....
patching file drivers/tty/serial/pch_uart.c
patching file drivers/tty/serial/pxa.c
patching file drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c
patching file drivers/hid/hid-core.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 1340.
1 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file drivers/hid/hid-core.c.rej
....
and

Code:
............
patching file drivers/usb/class/cdc-acm.c
patching file drivers/usb/class/usbtmc.c
patching file drivers/usb/core/config.c
patching file drivers/usb/core/devio.c
Unreversed patch detected! Ignore -R? [n] y
........

i think it is because HTC patch those files before. What those two fail messages means? and what is the right procedure to update kernel

General :: Flashing Custom Kernel After ROM Update?

Oct 23, 2012

So I've been looking into flashing custom kernels, and I can't seem to find an answer to this question. Basically, I'm wondering if the kernel remains after installing a new nightly, or do I have to reflash the kernel every time the ROM updates?

General :: YProDuos GT-B5512 - Flash New ROM But Why Update Kernel

Apr 6, 2013

Meanwhile, I've managed to root my Samsung Galaxy Y pro Duos (GT-B5512) and, recently, wanted to make something to "boost up the phone", as I'm having a problem with a missing original rom app. So... as I have to flash a new ROM, and I was thinking:

I don't know how to flash a new ROM, and I don't wanna risk making a brick f my phone. I've been reading a lot about some custom ROMs for Galaxy Y Pro Duos, but some doubts remain:

1) I've read about a compact Kernel for this phone. Should I update/ change the kernet?

2) Should I try to restore the stock ROM? Or should I go for one of the two custom ROMs I've found for B5512?
What are the advantages of putting these custom ROMs?

3) (1st kernet then ROM?) What should I do to the phone so it doesn't reboot twice a day, as it is rebooting nowadays?

General :: How To Get ROM / Kernel Version Of Phone

Oct 26, 2012

I am in a development team which develops an app used by millions of users worldwide. We get mysterious crash log messages all the time which happens only a couple dozen or even less devices which we can not directly reproduce while the vast majority of the users can use those features without problem. We suspect that in some of these cases some custom ROM or custom kernel causes the problem. Currently we get these informations from the hardware/software environment (in the parentheses there are examples from an actual crash log):

- Android version (4.0.4)
- Board version (SPH-D710)
- Brand (Samsung)
- System build number (IMM76I.FH13)
- System build ID (IMM76I)

I have a Nexus S with ParanoidAndroid, and on the About Phone page there are the extra fields I speak about (for example CyanogenMod version, ParanoidAndroid version, kernel version). My question is that is there an universal way to extract all or some of this information which could work on any device?

General :: Built A Custom Kernel For Phone

Apr 26, 2012

I'm trying to make a custom kernel for the Samsung Gravity SMART using sources from the unofficial CM9 port for the Gio/Ace (which both use very similar hardware to the Gravity Smart). What I've succeeded at so far:

1) Acquiring the source, both for the CM9 kernel and for the stock Froyo kernel
2) Searching for the device-dependent references in the stock kernel
3) Porting those changes over to the CM9 kernel
4) Getting everything to actually compile
5) Acquiring the stock CM7.2 source
6) Creating device makefiles (i.e. BoardConfig.mk, etc)
7) Building CM7.2 using kernel built in step #4
8) Putting the various img files into an Odin-compatible .tar.md5
9) Actually flashing to the phone.

And for all that work, I got.. a soft-bricked phone (fortunately, I have an Odin file for stock firmware). The phone boots to a SAMSUNG logo (not flashing/throbbing). how the heck do I figure out what's actually failing? Is there a bootloader to unlock, and if so how do I unlock it?

General :: Heimdall - Download Kernel Image From Phone

Nov 25, 2013

I recently started experimenting with the Android kernel. I downloaded the 3.0.31 kernel (because I wasn't able to find the sources for my stock one: 3.0.31-889555) and built a kernel image (zImage) successfully.

I plan to use Heimdall github.com/Benjamin-Dobell/Heimdall to flash the kernel image on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100) but before I do this I would like to download the current kernel image from my phone.

Since heimdall is capable to flash the current kernel image, I guess it's also capable of downloading the current, is it?

General :: Develop OC'd Kernel For Pantech Vega Racer 2 Phone

Jan 7, 2013

I'm trying to develop an OC'd kernel for Pantech vega racer 2 phone. It has the same hardware as HTC Evita.

I was able to overckock it using zarboz' and rohan's work. But the frequence is drops down to stock 1.5 Ghz while the processor is on max load.

For example, I started SetCPU stress test and after few minutes checked max freq. It was dropped down to stock 1.5 Ghz.

The same with Antutu bench. Even with OCing up to 2 Ghz in final resulst it show 1512 Mhz and freqs are dropped down.

Due to the lack of development for this phone, I can't find any examples of OC code especially for this phone.

LG Ally :: Velocity .2 With Jit Kernel And New 2.1 Update

Sep 21, 2010

I have my lg Ally with the new Jit kernel (Thanks Drellisdee), with Velocity 0.2 (Thanks Trident) and am overclocking at 768 mhz. I want to apply the new update, VZB, and then put velocity and the jit kernel back. So my thoughts are that I would have to...

1.) Backup rom/Apps/Data (Titanium Backup/ROM Manager)
2.) Go into Recovery (Clockworkmod) and make a nendroid backup.
3.) Wipe Dalvik, data, and cache.
4.) Install vzb via Drellisdee's rooted update (After i check md5)
5.) Then Apply Velocity 0.2
6.) Apply the kernel
7.) Restore data from titanium backup...

Is this what I would do? What about the ally's unofficial "V9" update that has to be installed manually... Is that worth it or should I just do VZB?
Also, do I need to go to a stock rom proior to the update?

Motorola Droid :: Update.zip For Stock Kernel

Mar 30, 2010

Does anyone know where I can find an update.zip to revert back to the stock kernel? I have suddenly found myself in a boot-loop for no apparent reason. I have been running NexBeast 0.9 for a few days without issue and today my phone ran out of battery. When I set it on my home dock it turned on, but it is just in a continuous boot loop right now. Sometimes it gets to the lock screen, other times it doesnt even get that far, before going back to the "Droid" text logo and then then red eye boot animation again.

To top it off, it looks like there is something wrong with the micro-USB port on my droid...it is VERY touchy and I cant even get it to connect to my laptop anymore so that I can get into an ADB shell

Samsung Moment :: Use Sprint Update Utility To Flash Custom Kernel

Mar 1, 2010

We can now do partial flashes with the CL14 SBL.... If you have not had the CL14 official update yet, you can follow these steps to get it:

Remember... THIS WILL PUT THE CL14 BOOTLOADER ON YOUR PHONE!

What you need:
Sprints Update Utility

1. Create a datatool back-up.
2. Download and install Sprints Update Utility found above.
3. Run the program (now called SWUpdater) and follow all the directions until it says "Flash Downloading Complete".

Once you have the official CL14 update on your phone, or if you already had it, and you would like to flash SDX/Joey's Kernel (and Max's Recovery), follow the steps below.

What you need:
CL14 official update
An SDX/Joey's Kernel
Max's Recovery

1. Create a datatool back-up... (Although you most likely wont need it if you are just flashing a kernel.... But JUST in case, you should create a datatool back-up if you aren't confident that you wont wipe your data!)

2. After downloading and installing Sprints Update Utility, go into the binary folder (C:Program FilesSamsung ElectronicsSWUpgradeModelsBinary) and move the CL14 file to a safe place, MAKE SURE IT IS NO LONGER IN THE BINARY FOLDER.

3. Find the Kernel you want to flash and put it in the binary folder.

Note: Now you should only have one file in the binary folder (the custom kernel). Also make sure that if the file you are putting into the binary folder says 7zip or winrar, extract it!! If you dont you will get the message "Cannot access bin folder!", and you will not be able to start the download.

4. On your desktop there should be a program named SWUpgrade. Run the program and follow all of the steps through the end. After every thing finishes successfully, you will end up with STOCK CL14, this includes the CL14 SBL, along with the custom kernel you put in the binary folder (you are root).

5. Double check that everything worked by going into Settings-About Phone, under BaseBand version you should see S:M900.8.0S.CL14, under Kernel version= 2.6.27 moment(at)momentdev, under Build number= Joey's name (or any other developer who's kernel you put in the binary folder).

6. Repeat steps 1-4, putting Max's recovery in the binary folder instead of the kernel.

7. You're all set.

(If you happen to want to flash one of Zefie's kernels, repeat steps 1-4 also.)

It wasn't a great thing to get the CL14 update before, because it was hard to obtain root. But now with Sprints Update Utility, and all the new kernels, we are able to get root with the CL14 SBL easily.

Samsung Moment :: Joeys Kernel And Get Stock Kernel Back

Jun 11, 2010

where I have got right now on my phone, which is:

1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).

I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)

So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.

1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.

2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?
