View 4 RepliesHaving to go in settings/storage everytime you wanna safely unmount your USB OTG drives is quite annoying... Is there a way to get a shorcut for that (widget or else) on JB and former Android versions?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a widget which could allow us to unmount a USB drive for the home screen.
Is there an app for that ?
I'm developing an application that should add it's shortcut to home screen after installation and remove it after the application is being uninstalled. The application will be preinstalled on the end user device, but still should have an option for uninstall). The task looks very simple but I've faced lots of troubles implementing it. What I have done:
Add shortcut to the home screen using
com.android.launcher.action.INSTALL_SHORTCUT
on app first launch or on newt device
reboot.
MANUALY remove shortcut using
com.android.launcher.action.UNINSTALL_SHORTCUT................
Issue with a custom ROM I've been playing around with in an attempt at customizing it to meet my personal needs.
Basically, the custom ROM installation removes old, unwanted .apk's from the stock image it is replacing. This is done by a script/command in the META-INF->com->google->android->updater-script file. Here's an excerpt as an example:
Code:
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
show_progress(1, 100);
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");delete("/system/app/Launcher2.apk");
However, while the script works perfectly to remove the actual apk's/apps from the device, once the custom ROM is loaded, the old shortcuts (to some of the apps that were uninstalled) remain on the homescreen (these shortcuts are placed there by default by the stock ROM). If you try to tap the shortcut, it simply states something to the effect of "this application is not installed on your device". While these "dead" shortcuts can be moved to the trash bin and deleted from the homescreen, it'd be nice if I could make it so the custom ROM installation automatically does this.
I've tried modifying the Launcher2.apk to reflect the changes I am looking for; but to no avail. In the Launcher2 /res/xml/default_workspace.xml file, I am easily able to specify which apps I do want shortcuts placed on the homescreen for during the installation. But - there doesn't seem to be a way for me to issue a command to remove the old, unwanted shortcuts and these "dead" shortcuts are present nonetheless, despite whatever changes I make to the default_workspace.xml (it does add my "new" shortcuts, though).
Any way that this could be done during the actual custom ROM installation process? And where would I add it to (default_workspace.xml, Android Manifest.xml, framework-res.apk, boot.img...
The backstory first:
I have a Nexus 10. I like to plug it into my TV via HDMI and watch videos or play games, or what have you. Since the aspect ratio doesn't match the TV I get black bars on the sides. In a command line, one can type
Code:
am display-size 2560x1440
to change the resolution of the screen and get rid of the black bars on the TV completely (at the cost of adding black bars on the top and bottom of the tablet.)
Code:
am display-size reset
Sets it back to normal.
Rather than typing this into a terminal /every time/ I want to do this, is there a simple widget or app that will let me set up a shortcut on the homescreen that I can just click on to toggle instead?

I've got a problem with a shortcut i can't remove, due to it being located beneath the phone tab on the start screen.
The edge of the shortcut is barely visable under the phone tab, making it impossible for me to click and remove it.
I've tried factory reseting the phone, but the shortcut is still there

Is it possible to remove the home screen from a rom with android 2.3.4 and sense 2.1, by editing the rom itself.
I know that the android version 2.3.4 (cool ic sense) doesn't allow this function, as it was added later in newer android versions (or sense versions?).
Either way, is it possible to go inside the rom and edit the sense launcher, so that it only shows 3 screens for example.
How do i remove some of the home screens? there are like 7 right now, and i would like to have just 3. how to do this? I use CM9 with LG UI 3.0.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn ICS, when I make a shortcut with Direct Dial, it shows the label "Home" over the bottom-half of my contact's picture... 99% of my contacts only have one number anyway, so the "Home" title is useless & only blocks half their picture. Is there a way to remove this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been playing with various widgets, putting them on the home screen & building groups of apps to keep the screen simple, so I can actually see my wallpaper. (Nothing special, just pics I like.)
Problem is that huge Google bar at the top. Is there an simple way to get rid of it, like the select-drag-drop for other home screen stuff.?Also, there seems to be some limits on where I can actually put apps or widgets. Is there a way to adjust this too?I'd really like to put a dashboard widget in place of that Google bar.
Finally, is there a way to disable Google when I select or swipe nearby the bottom of the screen?
This is a real pain-in-the-patootie when playing solitaire & the cards get near the bottom of the screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe popup more specifically shows you running programs which I assumed would be intrepreted as recently used programs, but apparently I was not specific enough. If you press and hold the home icon, you get a popup with recently used programs.

Is there any app out that runs in the background/in the task bar that will let me jump to home on my phone?
I'm tired of carrying (and misplacing) my stupid drivers license just so I can show it to cashiers at Denny's or wherever they don't accept debit. But it takes too long to open up gallery and sort through all of my photos. If I could set it up as an icon on my home screen, or even the folder it is in as an icon so i could quickly pull it up, that would be perfect.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm compiling my own ROM project from source, and I wonder if I can remove the home "icon" on the app drawer for the stock gingerbread launcher2.apk? From source that is.
For example the latest LauncherPro have the option for removing/hiding the home icon on the app drawer, I pretty much want to do the same basically on the default Gingerbread Launcher.
I have some questions related to Android's home-screen contents:
1) Is there a way to programmatically delete a home-screen shortcut on Android? I know that it can be done manually but I want to do it in code.
2) Is there a directory where all the contents of the home-screen are stored and, if there is, is there a way to update the contents of this directory?

I have had my Epic for 10 days now and have swapped it once for this problem. If I power off the phone to save battery life or change battery, when I power up again the app and contact shortcuts I had placed on the home/extended pages have disappeared (the widgets are still there). The apps and data are still there in the apps folder, but it is a pain having to pull my most commonly used ones back to the home pages each time I restart the phone. Sprint tech have remotely rebooted the phones and we have taken both phones back to factory settings several times but the problem always recurs. As I have now had 2 phones with the same problem I am presuming it is a software glitch. Sprint have been less than helpful to date, other than basic resets and changing the phone. Has anyone else had this issue?
