View 1 RepliesI remember sometime in 2009, when google navigation was restrict to US, some people used to Hack it to make it work outside the US..Voice Action is restrict in english. The app is there.. if I change my locale settings to English US, it works... But when I set it back to portuguese, it only works in search mode...I was then wondering if it was possible to hack it to make it work in other languages, since it can already recognize speech pretty well in portuguese...
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to hack in to two andorid devices, mic and the GPS device. With the mic I want to get the back ground noise. Measure the intensity of sound for ex - lets say frequency or some dB value (which ever is supported). With GPS obviously the location cordinates.
On the android platform it will be easy to do this as an application. However I want to pass this data to the kernel..how to achieve that? a user space daemon polling the above sensors constantly(then agian how to write to the kernel space..), or can I get these values in the kernel space itself? (ex- as a bite stream from the device driver).
I see these components discussed all the time on xda-developers. I have a vague understanding of what they are and how they're related to each other, but it's not perfectly clear. For example, the radio seems to be a lot more than just the radio. I have a good understanding of the basic ideas as a Linux user and software developer. To kick things off, let me present my current understanding. I could be way off on some things:"Radio" - I'm not sure if this runs before the bootloader or after HBOOT is the bootloader, the first thing that runs when you boot up your phone. Like your regular Linux bootloader, it lets you boot off of different partitions. There are multiple partitions on the system, at least one for HBOOT (maybe? or is it in some kind of MBR type of area?), recovery, system and data. All of these partitions are in the system's "ROM" which is not really ROM it's actually NVRAM or flash or whatever. Hence, each of these areas can be independently flashed.Recovery is a partition you can boot into. It's originally meant to be a kind of "recovery" mode and so offers a base for hacking. This is typically re-flashed so as to follow further modifications. From the recovery image, you can also access the sdcard which is useful for fetching update.zip files etc. update.zip - these are updates that can be applied from a custom recovery image. It seems like these updates can contain more or less arbitrary code, but I'm not clear on how they get applied or where they get flashed to or applied to./system - gets mounted read-only (what control this?) unless you do some hacking Where does the kernel sit? Is there a different one in the recovery versus the regular image? which parts form a custom ROM like CyanogenMod? What is the NAND and what does it mean to unlock the NAND? What is an RUU? SPL? Where do the WiFi and 3G radio images sit? PC36IMG.zip? PRI?I've seen some of this explained elsewhere but I don't understand how they all fit together.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a galaxy s3 very soon and I'm thinking about getting a nexus 7 with it.But as you know, nexus 7 doesn't have 3G so my only option to access network on it when there's no wifi network available is to use my future s3 as a wifi hotspot. So my questions are:
1-Is data consumption when using the phone as a wifi hotspot the same as if I'm normally using 3G on the phone itself ?
2-How long can an android(specifically the S3 if it matters much) act as a wifi hotspot before the battery runs out ?
What i want to do, is use either my tab 2 7.0 or my old htc hero as a router. I want to set up a homegroup from my server, but dont want to buy a router. My isea is to create a network and broadcast it from the wifi card in the ohone. This probably wont connect to the internet any time soon, but i feel that as long as i only need to access movies and stuff from my server the phone card's radiuswill suffuce.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny way to use an android phone as a microphone? As in, a way that actually works on a 64-bit version of Windows? I've tried a bunch of things that seem a bit dated, like DroidCam, nothing wants to work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have read all I can about using the Inc overseas and am confused. If the phone is switched to WiFi in a WiFi spot, can you use the phone? I have read that Verizon put some sort of restrictions on it, but I'm not savvy enough to understand it all. My daughter is in the Coast Guard and we both have DInc's. She goes to places like Star Bucks in other countries that offers WiFi and we would LOVE to be able to text each other with our phones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung S3 with VirginMobile. I know in the past several years ago, you have to root the phone in order to make your phone into a WiFi Hotspot.
I just wondering if this is still true? Can I make my phone into a WiFi Hotspot without rooting the phone? If so, how can I do it?
The reason I ask, I am planning to get an Android tablet. I am going to end up getting a off brand Android tablet.
I got an HTC Raider on the weekend, and while using the 3G/4G/LTE networks, it's amazing. Super fast and wonderful. Also, generally, while using wifi it's the same thing - fast and works perfectly.
However, when I'm at work, and I connect to the wifi network at my office, it will typically only work for 3 or 4 minutes, and then just stops working. It still displays maximum signal strength, but won't load any page on the internet, and any apps that send/receive data do not work. My work computer is also on the same wifi network and it always works no problem, so I know the wifi network is fine.
I have just bought an Android Smart TV Box (to replace my AC Ryan media box which gave up the ghost a few days ago) and it mostly works fine - it is connected to my tv via hdmi and the box is hard wired to my router - so it is the standard connection setup. I have two usb hard drives connected to it. I obviously want to drag and drop media files from my phone (android) or my laptop (Windows7) to the connected hard drives I use ES Explorer app on my phone and Windows explorer but using either version I cannot see the Android box wirelessly - if i do a scan using es explorer it finds the laptop straight away and i can drag and drop but it just will not find the android box at all. However if i go onto the Android box and into the es explorer app and do a scan it picks up the laptop and i can drag and drop a file onto the laptop. So the wireless is sort of working as opposed to not at all. But just seems odd that i cant see it at all - i cant even ping it from the laptop.

I am using WiFi as a Guest with guest password qt my office. But dont want to open/show my ID / mac address or any Detail to administrator.
Q1. Is there any APP which can keep me & my device detail invisible while i am surfing / downloading any file via browser or torrent?
Q2. Gmail etc sites are blocked in WiFi , is there any app which can browse to these URL's.
Is there a widget out there that displays the wifi network the phone is currently connected to?
I did a quick search and nothing came up. I would love something very minimalistic (Name only would be perfect)
I have a PC running Windows XP, which is connected to the internet using a wired cable modem. I then have a laptop, which I want to use to access the internet, but no wireless router.
Then I realized that my G1 (running Froyo) has WiFi, and I have the USB cable for it. So, is there any way of setting up my G1 to use the connection from the desktop PC via USB, and then broadcast it as a WiFi network? This is only intended to be a temporary solution (a few days) so I'm not going to go out and buy a wireless router or anything.
is there an app for that? i don't use wifi at all and want an easy way of sending files from my phone to my PC when i'm at home, at work, on vacation etc.
data isn't an issue as i'm on unlimited
I really like my Droid X but it only supports Ad Hoc and this doesnt connect to a certain device I need it to. I want to make sure I get the right phone that does what I need it to.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy HTC EVO 4G LTE is having a major problem. When connected to my home modem it will not connect to the internet at all. When I disconnect wifi in the settings the phone will crawl along at Sprint 3G speeds. Laptops, tvs, chromecast and Roku are all working properly from the same modem. I've reset the modem, restarted the phone numerous times, just updated the phone (was happening before and after the update) and still no luck. I've scoured the internet looking for answers but nothing so far.
