Android :: Background From PreferenceActivity Is Not Applied To Sub-PreferenceScreen

Jan 27, 2010

I am testing my application on a Nexus One and i have some problems. My theme is Light and when an inner sub PreferenceScreen is displayed, the window background becomes black instead of keeping the PreferenceActivity's one.

Android :: Background from PreferenceActivity is not applied to sub-PreferenceScreen

Android :: Update Existing Preference-item In A PreferenceActivity Upon Returning From A Sub PreferenceScreen

Apr 12, 2010

I have a PreferenceActivity with a bunch of (Sub)PreferenceScreens. Each such (Sub)PreferenceScreen represents an account and has the account-username as its title.

CODE:................

As the user enters sub-PreferenceScreen, and edits the account user-name, I want the outer PreferenceScreen to update it's PreferenceScreen-title for the account in question.

I've tried to add...

CODE:.............

But the accScreen.setTitle does not seem to take effect on the outer PreferenceScreen. I've note that calling onContentChanged(); actually makes it work, but I realize that this is probably not the preferred way of doing it.

I suspect I should call postInvalidate() on some view somewhere, but I really can't figure out on what view and when to do it.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2396153/preferencescreen-androidsummary-update may be experiening the same problem as me.

I'm using a PreferenceActivity with a PreferenceScreen defined in a xml file. i want to make sure that the data set on a preference editor are valid (integer , integer in a range....)

So , i want to be able to intercept a click on a button of the EditTextPreference , check the validity of the data and if the data is incorect , display a message to the user and come back on the EditTextPreference.

What would be the best way to achieve that?

Android :: Notifying An ArrayAdapter Of Changes When Closing A PreferenceActivity

Dec 12, 2009

I have a ListView that has some minor visual preferences that are set in a PreferenceScreen. These preferences are simple booleans to show or not to show some specific TextViews on each item in my ListView.

Anyhow, when these preferences are changed, I need to notify my ArrayAdapter that the data has changed in order to get the list redrawn. However, doing this via an OnSharedPreferenceChangeListener wouldn't really be optimal because there are several preferences that you can change, that would cause an unnecessary amount of updates to the ArrayAdapter.

So, to the question: How can I identify when my ListActivity has occurred on the screen after closing my PreferenceActivity, which I then could use to check for changes in the preferences, and only then notify the ArrayAdapter.

The ArrayAdapter being an inner class of my ListActivity, which is set as a ListAdapter.

Android :: Manually Set Preferences Being Overwritten By A Subclass Of PreferenceActivity

Mar 16, 2010

I am having a problem with an application I am in the middle of writing which is causing me some serious headaches.

The situation is this:

The application allows the user to configure several different kinds of information in several activities.

One of the activities, which is a subclass of Activity, takes data from the user and stores it in a shared preferences instance that I create manually and edit in code. This activity requires a complex screen layout that I do not believe would work well with a PreferenceActivity, hence me rolling my own in this case.

Another one of the activities, which is a subclass of PreferenceActivity, is a straight forward list of preferences, each with a list options - standard stuff.

I am finding that any data that I store from the first activity, my bespoke preference screen which manually adds the data using a StoredPreferences.Editor instance is overwritten once the user selects an option in my activity that extends PreferenceActivity.

Android : Can I Use Current SharedPreferences Tag To Store Values From PreferenceActivity?

Aug 5, 2010

Currently, I'm using the following code across all of my activities in my app to store application level variables and carry values between activities..

prefs = this.getSharedPreferences("MyPrefs", Context.MODE_PRIVATE);

I didn't have a PreferenceActivity prior to this, but now I do and I am looking to store a few user prefs from this new PreferenceActivity in the same sharedPreferences tag, "MyPrefs".

I know I can access the PreferenceActivity SharedPrefs from my activities via

prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);

but I would like those values saved to my current sharedPreferences tag, "MyPrefs", but I'm not sure how to do this.

Just wondering if there are any "downloadable" themes for Handcent.

I must have spent about an hour so far, hunting around for some background images, then tinkering with the colors of the 'out' bubbles and 'in' bubbles and 'date font' colors etc etc. but they all turned out rubbish.

are there any theme's that can be downloaded and applied?

Android :: How To Exclude The Title From Theme Applied To The Application?

Apr 29, 2010

I'm using a theme for my app to set some common layout features. One of the things I change in this theme is the text style. I change the color and the size of the text in the whole app. Sadly the text in the titlebar is also changed and the result is a somewhat blurry ugly style. I don't know if it is the color or the size of the text. Is it possible to somehow overwrite the style for the title in the theme? Or exclude the title?

Android :: Rotating Animation / Applied To Full Window

Dec 20, 2009

I have a pretty simple view hierarchy, including an ImageView in a FrameLayout with a source drawable that is bigger than the window size.Using scaleType=center the image is cropped and centered, as expected, when laid out.In response to user interaction we need to rotate the ImageView.I am using a rotate animation XML definition and View.startAnimation.This works with one remaining problem: the cropped part of the image remains cropped when rotated,so when the image is rotated by 90 degrees in portrait orientation the image is clearly cropped on the top and bottom. Essentially it looks like a rectangle the size of the view window is being rotated,rather than the oversize image in its entirety (note it is intentionally oversize in the hope of avoiding this cropping problem).We want the image to fill the screen regardless of the angle of rotation.What am I missing?

Android : Stop An Infinite Animation Applied On An ImageView?

Oct 12, 2010

I have an ImageView on which I have applied rotate animation. Since I want the rotation to go on continuously, I gave the repeatCount as infinite in my rotate.xml

android:repeatCount="infinite"

In onCreate(), I load the animation and start it.

Animation myAnim = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this, R.anim.rotate);
objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);

When a button is pressed, the rotation must stop. Hence in my onClick(), I called clearAnimation().

objectImg.startAnimation(myAnim);

My simple doubt is whether it's the right thing to do, to stop the animation?
I assume clearAnimation() is to loadAnimation(), but there is no stopAnimation() corresponds to startAnimation().

HTC Incredible :: How To Know ROM Is Applied

Nov 26, 2010

I have what's going to seem like such a silly question but I swear I looked and couldn't find the answer!I have been rooted for a while but never played with ROM's or anything like that.I am strait stock except for a few root only apps and removing bloatware.Well, now I am getting spammed with the OTA message and I am sick of it. So I am going to apply the Virtuous ROM (I actually like stock) so it'll go away.Here's my question... since the ROM I am choosing looks just like stock sense, how will I know I actually applied the ROM correctly? Is there somewhere in the settings (About Phone maybe?) where it says Virtuous 3.1? I assume it'll be there in the software info, but I have no idea.

Android :: Using Custom Defaults For PreferenceScreen

Dec 8, 2009

I am currently trying to implement a PreferenceActivity for my application that uses custom default values for its preferences instead of the defaults declared in the corresponding preference XML as the defaults are supposed to change dynamically based on certain conditions.However, when I modify the defaults via the Android API after loading the preferences through addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences); it already seems to be too late and the individual defaults set via Preference.setDefaultValue do not seem to be taken into consideration when rendering the UI.As I would like to avoid re-inventing the wheel I hope there is some possibility to achieve this using the standard Android preference API. Is there any way to trigger a re-evaluation of the values (and default values) associated with a PreferenceScreen hierarchy? I did not yet try whether creating the PreferenceScreen via APIs instead of loading from XML would help, so that could be an option.

Android :: IconPreferenceScreen That Extends PreferenceScreen

Jul 28, 2010

I would like to have a Preferences activity that has icons like the system settings has had since Eclair. It uses a special Preference called IconPreferenceScreen.I can copy that into my project without problem, but I'd like the behavior of the PreferenceScreen instead of just the Preference Class. I could like to click on it to show its children Preferences. I thought it would be a easy to change to make IconPreferenceScreen extend PreferenceScreen instead of Preference, but PreferenceScreen is Final.Why on earth would google make PreferenceScreen a final class? Is there anyway to achieve what I would like to do, short of dividing up my Preference into several other Preferences that all receive intents (That's how the system settings works.)
