If I have to keep on posting anew just to get basic answers (such as where Android Linux stores anything), then so be it I will! I like to cherry-pick my icons when an installed theme leaves me with the same one for different functions, or I just think the stock ones look better. This is possible with my home screen app (Dxtop), but I need to know where to find them in the Android system. I actually prefer the stock icons over any available icon paks on the Market, as the 2.1+ set is much more concise and complete than what I see available there (you have the choice of separate icons for camera & camcorder, or messaging next to your voicemail, which are only available from the stock set). The problem is that DxTop can find only the installed icon paks, go to the Market to find more, or call up Astro so that I can search for icons in my system - it has no clue where my stock icons are. Cannot imagine why Android makes it so difficult to use it's default icons, but I want to use them as needed. Can they even be viewed where they are stored on an un-rooted phone? If not, where would they be seen if my phone was rooted?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Android App has 2 activities. A login screen and a search screen. When i deploy the app on emulator or on my device, i see 2 icons for same app. When i click on icon 1 it opens screen 1 (login screen) and When i click on icon 2 it opens screen 2 (search screen). By logic when i login it should show the search screen. Not sure when i'm making the mistake, would be of help if some one can point me in right direction.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI seem to be having problems locating icons for apps installed via HTC Sync.
After installation, icons for the programs don't appear in the programs list. I've confirmed they're installed, as they show up in the manage apps list. Any programs installed via the Market show up on the programs list.
I am developing an android app w/ Eclipse.Whenever I run the app on my phone or the emulator, four application icons are installed on the device.I am guessing it is related to my manifest file which has three activities (3 are for tabs). When I uninstall the app, all of the icons are removed from the phone.Upon a reinstall, all four show back up.

Just purchased album washer from winamp (which grabs album art from grace note), I was wondering where the artwork goes and how can I remove it when desired?
I deleted the winamp database but the artwork is still there.
I have also used the stock HTC app to get album art (from gracenote again) and can't get rid of that artwork
why after getting the artwork it shows on other music apps but not others?

I need to edit the tags on some MP3 files on my GS3. I've tried Tag & Rename, but it doesn't recognize the device when connected via USB. good desktop app for editing MP3's on my phone via USB connection. I know there are some apps that can do this, but I have quite a few and doing it on the phone can be a strain. I would also like to avoid offloading all the files from the phone- editing them- and reloading them..
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs stated in the title I would like to know where exactly the default homescreen wallpaper image is stored on the ICS file system?
I am using version 4.0.3
Say for example I have a friend with a cool background wallpaper and that I want a copy of it. Where exactly would I look in the android file system on his phone to get a copy of it?
Note: I do not want to download an app which manages my wallpaper images I want to find out how it works on ICS so that I can manage it myself.
I googled a bit and found the tutorial below at the end of this email. It would appear that (on Gingerbread) wallpaper is managed by framework-res.apk
When I looked however at the different png files in "framework-res/res/drawable-hdpi" on my ICS installation I nothing what so ever that looks like my current home screen.
The wallpaper is stored under the system/media
On ICS I have 4 folders at that level
alarms
notifications
ringtones
ui
On ICS there are no images in any of these folders. The above was most likely true for Gingerbread but not ICS.
Is wallpaper managed by the launcher or by ICS itself?
I know they should be in /data/app but 2 are missing. I recently added my wife's account to my Gnex since she bought Where's my Water and Amazing Alex for my son to use on her phone. I wanted to install Amazing Alex on our Asus Transformer TF101 but Rovio has decided it doesn't work well. Now my 5 year old is freaking out. I added her account to my phone and downloaded it from the Play Store. I wanted to side load it to the TF101 via Dropbox but the apk doesn't show in the /data/app folder when using Root Explorer. Neither game I installed using her account shows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing k9 mail (v4.311) on my android device. I have it set to retrieve at most 500 messages.
However, this does not limit the actual # of messages stored on the device itself. My initial assumption was that after 500 messages were retrieved, on subsequent retrievals, new emails would replace the oldest. This does not seem to be the case. As new messages are received, old ones still remain.
Is there a way to set this software to keep at most a certain # of message - that is, to have new messages REPLACE older ones?
If not, what software/app provides this functionality?

View 2 Replies View RelatedBut before we engage in arguments on the politics of actively hiding the file system to computer users and restricting access to their devices... WHERE Google stores its Offline Speech Recognition Language Files?
I accidentally discovered that Offline Speech Recognition seems to have been bundled with Google Search somehow because if Google Search is disabled, so is Speech Recognition and looking at Google Search in Application Manager, one can notice that the data storage is proportional to the size of the downloaded language files, but so far have been unable to locate where on the device these files are stored, so that they don't need to be downloaded again.
where expired downloaded movies from Google Play are stored ?. The reason for asking is that I would like to delete them rather than clogging up my Nexus 7. Perhaps they are automatically deleted as I don't seem to be able to find them on the device.

How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.
