General :: Rooted Galaxy S2 - Unpack And Pack APK Files

Oct 29, 2013

I have to unpack, modify and pack apk-files automatically. I work on Linux and my first attempt was to unpack it with unzip and pack it again without modification. The installation failed because package was not signed correctly. I removed CERT.* files and pack it again. After signing the archive with jarsigner I installed it on my rooted Galaxy S2, Android 4.1.2. But if I start the app, it deadlocks and I have to reboot the device. The app is very simple only showing some views without any function. Did I miss any special about apk-files?

General :: Unpack And Repack Stock Recovery?

Oct 3, 2012

Since there is currently no dev for the VZW G Tab 2, I've been trying to port CWM to it.I used dd to dump the stock recovery image from /dev/block/mmcblk0p18. At first I attempted to use builder.clockworkmod.com, but the recovery wouldn't boot. It would try to boot, the screen would like up, then it would promptly reboot normally. I've also tried compiling my own from source and got the same result. I've even tried splitting modifying and repacking recoveries from similar devices to no avail!

I attempt to unpack my stock recovery, and repack with NO modifications. I did so and the stock recovery repacked does the same as the compiled recoveries.

[[ using Windows w/ cygwin ]]

I used split_bootimg.pl to split the image

Code:
./split_bootimg.pl recovery.img

I extracted the ramdisk

Code:
gzip -dc ../recovery.img-ramdisk.gz | cpio -i

I then repacked the ramdisk

Code:
./mkbootfs ./ramdisk | gzip > ramdisk-new.gz

Then repacked the image

Code:
./mkbootimg --kernel recovery.img-kernel --ramdisk ramdisk-new.gz --cmdline 'no_console_suspend=1 console=null' --board MSM8960 --pagesize 2048 --base 0x80200000 -o recovery-new.img

The original size of the stock recovery before unpacking is 10240kb, after repacking the size is 6090kb. Should this be the case for a simply repacked image??

If I reflash the stock recovery that I dumped using dd it works fine. It's only on compiled recoveries and if I unpack/repack. I'd like to start over, but starting off with successfully unpacking then repacking my stock recovery and having it successfully boot.

General :: CWM Touch Won't Stick - Galaxy Nexus Rooted

Jun 28, 2012

I have been trying to get my rooted Galaxy Nexus to load the CWM Touch recovery image, and I just can't seem to get it to stick. I originally just tried to install the basic non-touch version from Rom Manager. When it rebooted, I got the red ! and a dead robot. So I booted into fast boot, and flashed the touch recovery. After flashing if I go straight to recovery, I do get the CWM recovery and can backup. My problem is that if I the reboot the phone, I can never get back to it again. I always end up at the red ! and a dead robot.

I read on another thread to rename the file "/recovery-from-boot.p" to "recovery-from-boot.p-bak" and that it might require reflashing the image. I moved this file and re-named it, reflashed, booted into android. Then powered off and booted into recover mode, just to see the red ! again.

It seems that when I first flash I can go into it, but anytime after that it just dies. I could probably just go ahead and flash a new image to the phone but I don't feel good doing that while the recovery image seems to need re-imaging every time.

I selected the option to update the binary via CWM (as that's my recovery tool). My phone then tried to reboot but is now stuck on the splash screen, I have access to ODIN mode which currently says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) but no access to CWM.

I have a feeling I would need to flash the kernel but am not really sure what the best way to fix this is. If possible I would like to keep all my data intact.

General :: Rooted Galaxy S2 Won't Boot - Yellow Triangle On Restart

Mar 25, 2012

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I rooted it successfully.

Then I tried to install a CRT-style lock animation mod. For this I had to copy a new file into the /system/framework folder replacing an existing one. Once I did that my phone won't boot.

It restarts with the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo and the yellow triangle. Then the sound plays with an android text style logo. Then it just turns off.

What do I do? How do I transfer a ROM over so I can flash it? My CWM is v4.0. something so it won't read a ROM from my external SD card. And Kies won't load my phone because it isn't booted onto an OS.

General :: Galaxy Nexus Rooted - Change SMS Reply To Number?

Mar 23, 2012

Basically I'm trying to get my Wife/teens to stop using carrier text messaging without having to explain to them how to use two different applications to send texts.

Doesn't have to be Google voice, really any app that will act as the default messaging app and when texts come in over the Verizon number and they reply to the text the recipient gets the "free" text number to respond to will work - Gvoice just seemed like the easy choice.

What I'm looking to do is change the reply-to number that gets sent to text message recipients from the default messaging app, Go SMS or Handcent SMS. What I do NOT want to do is have two separate text messaging apps. I want all texts to come from one application.

The idea here is to avoid paying Verizon text messaging charges and eventually block carrier text messaging altogether by using Google voice to send/receive all SMS.

Ideally this is how it would work - When a friend sends me a txt using my Verizon number I get a notification. I click reply and then press send and one of two things happens:

1. Instead of sending the text over Verizon's network the text automatically sends it through Google voice and my friend sees my Google voice number and replies to it, essentially encouraging them to use the new phone number but seamless from my perspective.

2. Another alternative is to send the text message over Verizon's SMS network but have the reply-to number be my Google voice number so when they reply it will go through Google voice.

While #1 will more quickly reduce the number of text messages sent through the carrier network what's most important is I'm using the same app for all texting.

I don't mind purchasing an app that can do this either.

I using a rooted Galaxy Nexus.

General :: Rooted Galaxy S III - Not Receiving Voice Calls When Data Turn On

Feb 16, 2013

I have a Tmobile rooted Samsung Galaxy S III, I was running a nightly Cyanogenmod 10 ROM. Yesterday there was an update for that rom and I downloaded it and installed it, everything was fine and running smoothly until some people started telling me that they were not able to reach me by phone. I tried checking what was wrong and I finally realized that whenever I have my mobile data on or while I am using it I don't receive voice calls. I tried looking everywhere for a way to fix this and I came across the ##DATA# code in which I could turn off the DDTM option but unfortunately my phone doesn't recognize that code.

this is the message I get every time I try to enter ##3282# code.

I thought that maybe something was wrong with the ROM itself so i decided to browse around here for one for my Tmobile samsung galaxy S 3 and I decided to install this one [ROM][4.2.2][RC1] LiquidSmooth ROMs - d2tmo - 2|14|13

after wiping data/cache and dalvik cache I installed this ROM and this is my current phone info and still when I am using my mobile data I cant receive calls nor put the ##DATA# code to turn off DDTM.

is there any other way I could access that DDTM option?

Another thing I realized is that even tho I did the factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and data cache on recovery mode my phone still says it only has 4gb free on its internal memory, isn't it supposed to be completely free after wiping all that stuff?

General :: Galaxy Pocket S5300 Rooted - Bootloop After LCD Modder DPI Change

Jan 8, 2013

I rooted my Galaxy Pocket lately and installed LCD modder just to try changing the dpi settings. i changed the stock 120 dpi to 160 and clicked save. the phone froze and i had to pull of the battery. after i restart all i get is a boot loop. i get 3 things

(1) s5300 logo
(2) animated samsung logo
(3) flashing samsung logo which appears just before the lock screen appears

( 1 and 2 vibrations during this) and then it loops all over again. as i understand the change i dpi is not supported for my device and it is not loading into the home screen. the solution seems to be editing the build.prop file to reassign the stock dpi value. but to access the file i have to get into adb mode and have the device available in the list. but since debugging mode was not selected before i essentially soft bricked my phone i am not able to access my device in adb mode. i am able to get into recovery mode tho.any way to edit the build.prop file from this situation??.....
