I downloaded an app called crime world, gives articles on real world crimes and that sort. But I wanted to listen to the articles in the background while doing mundane work. Is there an app that can read aloud any text on the screen and from other apps?

I am looking for an app that will read my unread emails from gmail aloud (text to speech).I have tried drivefree.ly and some others, but all seem geared around reading a new email when it arrives.i want to listen to my email on my drive into work in the morning and don't receive many emails that early in the morning.i want to listen to my emails that have accumulated since I checked them last.

At the moment I am using the default htc email widget, however when ever I read an email from my gmail account it doesnt update the read status so it still shows as unread.
I would like one that would update the read status and possible the support for unified inbox so I can see new mail from hotmail account and gmail.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Galaxy S4 and one of my favorite things to do on it was look up words. It was a great feature where all I would have to do is tap the microphone button and say "Definition blahblah" and then the definition of blahblah would pop up and be read out loud by the Text To Speech thing. It was awesome doing it to people because they would shut up and listen to my phone tell them whats what. But now my Google Now wont read definitions. Its is really annoying. I played around with the settings in the app and even with the TTS settings in the Language and Output in the My Device area of the phone settings but nothing is working. It still does TTS for other things like weather but just not for definitions of words.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a backup using Titanium Backup and Go Backup and after wiping my Motorola Defy, tried to restore apps, contacts etc. The problems I encountered were:
1) Go Backup can't recognize backup directory on SD card for some reason.
2) Can't move apps to SD. An error occurs: "Move Application: Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left." Needless to say, I have more than enough storage.
This is was I encountered by far, although I believe these are just a small part of the symptoms for a single problem.
Maybe its because there are no permissions, or moving apps is impossible because of an existing app files on the SD card.
What is the actual cause for this? Or is there a tool to fix the permissions on the Defy?
I have got a LG Optimus L5 (known as Swift L5), which I am trying to root. But there is a problem. I have been doing a bit of research, and I have found out that the Optiums L series are read only (the internal storage). And because they are read-only, I cant push the files onto the device, in other words I cant root the device! This is really freaking me out a bit.

I am trying to revive white Pandigital using ADB commands to push files on the system's folder of the device then flashing them.
The computer sees the device, adb has root access, yet when trying to push files is gives me an error indication that the system/data/midc is a read only. tried adb remount over and over with no lick. Is there any other way to get to write on the system folder?
I used to know a way to dump a raw range of data (i.e. specifying start/end in hex address) from a block device which I used to do from data recovery days, but I can't remember what it is.

It's a Samsung Galaxy W and on the phone under sd card it says I have 7.4 gigs and in windows explorer it says I have 7.4 gigs. but the phone says I only have 1.7 gigs of usb storage, and when I upload mp3's it uses up that 1.7 gigs.

The short version is that I need to be able to extract one specific conversation from the stored text messages on an Android phone, transfer it to a PC, and then convert it into some format that is easily and comfortably readable on a PC.
The background to this is that my girlfriend had kept all of the text messages she had previously received from me; but a couple of weeks ago a rather unpleasant gentleman kicked my front door in (while she and I were both in my house), demanded money, and made off with my wallet and shoulder bag, and my girlfriend's handbag, which contained her phone. A bit scary as you can imagine.... We're both okay, but my girlfriend was a little sad to lose all the messages I'd sent her.
As it happens, I generally keep long-term copies of the texts that I send and receive (not for sentimental reasons, I'm just a bit of a hoarder when it comes to data!) so I've probably still got copies of all of those messages somewhere (my phone didn't get stolen), and I'd like to extract them and give them to her as one of a set of birthday gifts.
Potential complications:
1) I need to extract both sides of the conversation (my messages to her and hers to me) into a single file.
2) I need not to extract messages to or from anyone else.
3) Sometimes a number may be in 07... format while other times it may be in +447... format.
4) Girlfriend changed phone number at one point.
5) Messages will be split between my old phone (a Samsung Galaxy S2 which can still connect to wifi or a USB cable, but has no actual phone service any more) and my new one (HTC One).
6) The end result needs to be a single file with everything in chronological order.
7) Girlfriend is extremely non-technical; so the end product has to be something that can be loaded and viewed on a laptop by launching just one file, and it has to be nicely laid out and easily readable when you're viewing it.
I've been trying to set up my email on htc one x for 2 days with no success.

The thing is that my hotmail acount doen't mark as read on server.
From what i understand it's because hotmail is pop'? but it has always worked for me on iphone. Is there a way to get around this.
I dont want to change provider, or forward my mail, or pay for email app, I'd like to have both hotmail and gmail accounts in one unified inbox so rather not just have gmail hotmail separately.

Context: Today im investigating how works android classes:

both works over settings.db into
data/data/com.google.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db.
There is something that surprised me:
When I had never changed one of settings, for example LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, the method:
getString(ContentResolver resolver, String name) returned null.
By default lock pattern is disabled when i activated it, method returned 1 and then when disabled returned 0.
My question: is true that when you havent changed the value of a setting, the system goes to look for its default value out of settings.db? and is true that this value at settings.db until you change it is null?

I decompiled Settings.apk, SettingsProvider.apk and Phone.apk. There you can find some bools.xml where are stablished default values for some settings I've not found yet every setting I need.
So I have a bunch of contacts synced with my google account. Some of these same contacts are synced with other services (facebook, google+, etc.). In the people app, each "service" displays a separate contact (all with the same name) instead of merging them all into one.

Is there a way to make it so all the services appear under one contact?
I get as far as being able to push su and busy box but get "failed, read file system only" or "directory doesn't exist".

We have a 2009 Mini Cooper S and a 2014 Infiniti QX60. I previously had a Galaxy S2 which I could connect to my Cooper via USB and it would read my music, playlists and podcasts and play them on the car speakers. About a year ago it stopped doing that and I thought it was b/c the phone was so old. I eventually upgraded to Galaxy S5 now in April, and the car still will not recognize the phone, read my music, playlist and podcasts. I took it to dealership but they say it's an Android problem. we bought the new Infiniti and I have the same problem. Before I try to take the Infiniti back to the dealer. I have no issues with the Bluetooth picking up the phone's functions and making calls, but cannot get the audio system to recognize or read my files and play them.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create custom ringtones from the music files on my Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.4.2 (CM 11 build date 09-Jan-2014). Most, if not all, of my music is in M4A format, so I made sure the ringtone makers I've tried support that format.
The apps play the music files just fine, but when I try to open any file for editing, no matter what app I use, I get "Error reading file" or a variation thereof. The files were transferred from my Windows 8.1 computer to my phone via Winamp (USB, not wifi).
how to resolve this, short of wiping all the music and transferring WAV or MP3 files?
When I open a txt file the text is encoded and cannot be read.The file can be opened with Adobe; but ThinkFree automatically opens the file.
