General :: Google Now TTS Won't Read Definitions

I have a Galaxy S4 and one of my favorite things to do on it was look up words. It was a great feature where all I would have to do is tap the microphone button and say "Definition blahblah" and then the definition of blahblah would pop up and be read out loud by the Text To Speech thing. It was awesome doing it to people because they would shut up and listen to my phone tell them whats what. But now my Google Now wont read definitions. Its is really annoying. I played around with the settings in the app and even with the TTS settings in the Language and Output in the My Device area of the phone settings but nothing is working. It still does TTS for other things like weather but just not for definitions of words.

Is there any guide to looking at the partitions in a hex-editor or something and determining if its a boot, recovery etc...

Earlier today I got an OTA upgrade of my Samsung Galaxy S4 to Jellybean 4.3.
Everything is working great except for some reason my external SD card (A 64 GB SanDisk MicroSD) is read only. The only thing I can do with it is to format it. Otherwise all write operations to it fail.
I have tried two different cards and several different apps (Terminal, Astro File Manager for instance) and none of them can write to the device.
I am almost thinking it is a matter of a missing new permission but I can't find anything in the SDK docs about it (If this is the case that is fine because my main use of the card is a home made music player that I've written).

Can someone point me to documentation with the definitions / meanings (i.e., what action is expected to be performed) for the KeyEvents? Aside from the obviouse KEYCODE_A to KEYCODE_Z, etc. there are some that I don't understand and I cannot find any mention anywhere on the web ?! Specifically the following, but generally all of them: KEYCODE_EXPLORER KEYCODE_ENVELOPE. Also, is there a meta-key to dismiss the keyboard via an injected KeyEvent?

In my android application, I would like to retrieve the birthday field from google.com/contacts, as this field isn't synchronized in the android contacts application. How can I have a read access to google contacts? I saw the Google contacts APIs, did I have to use it? Which one? The Portable version? Or is there a simple way to read these contacts, as Android does when there is a synchronization?

The biggest disappointment is that it doesn't seem to read QR Code. If so, it would at least be a replacement for Barcode Scanner. That way I would use it more regularly as goggles is improved.

I know this has most likely been discussed many times. But I am looking for a decent email widget.
At the moment I am using the default htc email widget, however when ever I read an email from my gmail account it doesnt update the read status so it still shows as unread.
I would like one that would update the read status and possible the support for unified inbox so I can see new mail from hotmail account and gmail.

I did a backup using Titanium Backup and Go Backup and after wiping my Motorola Defy, tried to restore apps, contacts etc. The problems I encountered were:
1) Go Backup can't recognize backup directory on SD card for some reason.
2) Can't move apps to SD. An error occurs: "Move Application: Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left." Needless to say, I have more than enough storage.
This is was I encountered by far, although I believe these are just a small part of the symptoms for a single problem.
Maybe its because there are no permissions, or moving apps is impossible because of an existing app files on the SD card.
What is the actual cause for this? Or is there a tool to fix the permissions on the Defy?

I have got a LG Optimus L5 (known as Swift L5), which I am trying to root. But there is a problem. I have been doing a bit of research, and I have found out that the Optiums L series are read only (the internal storage). And because they are read-only, I cant push the files onto the device, in other words I cant root the device! This is really freaking me out a bit.

I have this Chinese copy of 5C!
One day i tried to flash a custom rom(No backup).Phone wont boot so i flashed the stock rom! When phone powered on phone wont read the sim and IMEI says null/null ! Is it a modem.img problem?

I am trying to revive white Pandigital using ADB commands to push files on the system's folder of the device then flashing them.
The computer sees the device, adb has root access, yet when trying to push files is gives me an error indication that the system/data/midc is a read only. tried adb remount over and over with no lick. Is there any other way to get to write on the system folder?

I used to know a way to dump a raw range of data (i.e. specifying start/end in hex address) from a block device which I used to do from data recovery days, but I can't remember what it is.

I had a 2 gig sd card and put an 8 gig into it and formated it using the android OS and it says I have 7.4 gigs but all of my external PC device managers like ******** say I only have 1.7 gigs and it won't let me put more then 1.7 gigs onto it.
It's a Samsung Galaxy W and on the phone under sd card it says I have 7.4 gigs and in windows explorer it says I have 7.4 gigs. but the phone says I only have 1.7 gigs of usb storage, and when I upload mp3's it uses up that 1.7 gigs.

The short version is that I need to be able to extract one specific conversation from the stored text messages on an Android phone, transfer it to a PC, and then convert it into some format that is easily and comfortably readable on a PC.
The background to this is that my girlfriend had kept all of the text messages she had previously received from me; but a couple of weeks ago a rather unpleasant gentleman kicked my front door in (while she and I were both in my house), demanded money, and made off with my wallet and shoulder bag, and my girlfriend's handbag, which contained her phone. A bit scary as you can imagine.... We're both okay, but my girlfriend was a little sad to lose all the messages I'd sent her.
As it happens, I generally keep long-term copies of the texts that I send and receive (not for sentimental reasons, I'm just a bit of a hoarder when it comes to data!) so I've probably still got copies of all of those messages somewhere (my phone didn't get stolen), and I'd like to extract them and give them to her as one of a set of birthday gifts.
Potential complications:
1) I need to extract both sides of the conversation (my messages to her and hers to me) into a single file.
2) I need not to extract messages to or from anyone else.
3) Sometimes a number may be in 07... format while other times it may be in +447... format.
4) Girlfriend changed phone number at one point.
5) Messages will be split between my old phone (a Samsung Galaxy S2 which can still connect to wifi or a USB cable, but has no actual phone service any more) and my new one (HTC One).
6) The end result needs to be a single file with everything in chronological order.
7) Girlfriend is extremely non-technical; so the end product has to be something that can be loaded and viewed on a laptop by launching just one file, and it has to be nicely laid out and easily readable when you're viewing it.

I've been trying to set up my email on htc one x for 2 days with no success.
I've settled down for aqua mail, after trying maildroid, k-9.
The thing is that my hotmail acount doen't mark as read on server.
From what i understand it's because hotmail is pop'? but it has always worked for me on iphone. Is there a way to get around this.
I dont want to change provider, or forward my mail, or pay for email app, I'd like to have both hotmail and gmail accounts in one unified inbox so rather not just have gmail hotmail separately.
My stock email app is insanely slow, there's something wrong with it, how do i reinstall it?
