General :: Google Talk Looses Connection To Server?
Jul 10, 2012
I have a Motorola Atrix2, running Android 2.3.6 on AT&T. I have used Google Talk since getting the phone last December, but for the past week have had trouble.
When I wake the phone I find that I am no longer signed into Talk. My contact list is subdued in grey, a notice appears at the bottom of my chat window saying that the connection with the server has been lost, and my 4G icon has gone from blue to white indicating that I no longer am connected to Google.
I haven't done anything to the phone / settings to cause this. I've tried many things to fix this including: rebooting, hard booting, force stop the application and clearing it's data (cache is always empty), and replacing the SIM. Needless to say none of these steps have worked. I have not tried a factory reset as I have read elsewhere of people trying this with no luck.
As far as I have been able to tell, this problem only happens when connected to my service plan, I have never noticed this happening when hooked onto WI-FI
Having searched online all I can find that might be at fault is the version of Android (the phone originally had 2.3.4 but was upgraded several months ago), and the fact that AT&T has recently upgraded to "true 4G LTE" in my area. I have no idea if either of these are actually the cause of my problem.
Google Talk is one of my two main means of communication and I really need this resolved.

I have a question about Google Talk. Is there any way to keep it from disconnecting after a while after the screen has been turned off? I have "always-on mobile data" active but after a minute or so after turning the screen of Google Talk disconnects and I don't receive any messages until I manually turn on the screen and wait for it to reconnect and retrieve the new messages.Just to note it doesn't actually show the splash screen saying signing into Google Talk it just says "Lost connection to server. Messages will be sent when online" bellow the most recent message.

I have set up a VPN server on OSX Lion Server edition. It is using l2tp with preshared key and username/password for login. i(beep) works fine and connects. Laptop works fine and can connect.But...
1. When Iam on local network (same IP segment) I can connect using Android native l2tp VPN connection setup with PSK and user/pass.
2. When I try to connect from external (3G or other WiFi net) I am unable to connect.
3. When I enabe native tether on Android device, and connect i(beep) to the Android AP, I still am able to connect from i(beep).
These three steps tells me it is not a carrier issue, and possibly an Android issue.Kinda like the l2tp connection for security, and also Lion natively does not supply pptp connection.

I have to create an app that allows other devices to connect to my android terminal via wifi, without access point, so my device should become an access point to host their connections. i don't have to share the internet connection with them, just have to make them connect directly to me, then they send a UDP packet, and I have to read it, so on my device will have to be an UDP server after the connection creation. how to manage wifi? any step to follow? my android version is 4.0.3

I use an LG Optimus L4 II (e445). I rooted it but then decided I had too much on it and decided to restore to factory settings. It all worked fine. However, when I got to the Google Account sign in page, it gave me the "couldn't establish a reliable connection to the server" error message. I followed every single tutorial I could find online as to how to solve this. None of them worked. Eventually, I re-rooted it (using VRoot) and managed to download an apk of ES file explorer and locate the hosts file. This had one line that shouldn't have been there:
[URL]
From what I can make out, this is the address of google's sign in servers. So somehow (I suspect malware/dodgy rooting program?) my hosts file has been edited to stop me logging into google. Restoring the device does nothing, neither does unrooting/rerooting. When I open up the file in ES (when rooted) and edit out the bad lines, I can't save for some reason- I think the /system folder is write protected.
So I tried to make the /system folder writeable. I used the android sdk to do this (mount -o command) but this did not do anything. I downloaded the mount /system apk and installed that, it did not work either. I tried /pull and /push on the hosts file to edit it and send it back using the apk. I could successfully pull and edit it, but it would not let me push it back. I can effectively not use my phone- I can't use most apps and can't download any.

In Gmail's Google Talk on the computer, if a contact goes offline, you have the option to "continue the conversation via SMS," in which you can chat to someone's phone and the message will send as an SMS to their phone - useful if they go offline.
Is there any way that this can be done on *Android*? I was trying this out with a friend the other day, and normally when you start a chat on Gmail via Gtalk, it will show up on your Android devices in your Google Talk conversations. Unfortunately, when trying to use the chat to SMS function, that doesn't work.

How to get Google Apps (including Talk) if you are running CM, but trying those methods at the best gave me boot loops (that was when trying to flash the .zip).
I have Maps, Gmail, Google Translate etc installet so I guess I have most of the necessary framework, but trying to just install the Talk.apk for Android 2.3.7 (from the gapps package for CM) didn't work (it didn't even install).

I'm trying to set up a VPN connection between a Linux Mint 10 PC (server) and a Nexus 7 (client).
All I'm getting so far is a "Connecting" status from the Nexus 7, followed after a few seconds by a "Disconnected" one.
As it is my first attempt at setting up a VPN (both on the server and client sides) I was wondering if there was a log file generated by Android on the Nexus that would give me a clue as to where I'm going wrong.
A similar file on the server side

I recently flashed Galaxy Captivate with Dark knight ROM v5.5. Everything went well and then I installed latest GApps (20120429). All other Google Apps works except GTalk. If I try to install it via adb it gives error like:
'INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES'.

I am looking for a way to automate my Android phone connecting to an SSH server when the phone connects to an unsecured wifi network. My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.
I'm using this guide to connect my Android phone to the SSH server: link HERE
Is the Tasker app the best way to do this?
- if yes: how do I trigger the launch of the SSHTunnel when the trigger event (connection to unsecured wifi network) occurs?
- if no: what is a better way?
Note: I did a search for SSH (link HERE) and did not see anything covering this.

I'm running a Galaxy Note with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, unlocked. I got it three weeks ago, and not once have I managed to get Google Talk to log in... except when I'm using wifi. On wifi, it's totally fine. But try to use it on the data connection, and it just refuses to log in. No errors, no explanations... it just goes grey and nothing will happen. I use Google Talk constantly -- it's really making me regret giving up my old T9 Nokia, because at least that ran Google Talk properly. I'm tearing my hair out over it, and I can't find any support anywhere -- the product forums for Talk have been dead 18 months, the blogs for it even longer, there doesn't appear to be any support email address...
I don't really know what other useful information I can provide. There's no error message to describe. Every other app works perfectly fine over the data connection, including Trillian (connecting to the exact same Google Talk account) and Gmail. Never had a problem with anything else. I have tried removing that Google account from my own and re-adding it. I have tried force-stopping and disabling the Google Talk process and clearing its data (though the option to clear its cache is greyed out). Neither brings any chance. I've tried double-checking my APN settings; the only two I have are the currently-used one and the MMS one. I've called my service provider and asked if they maybe blocked any ports or anything; they haven't. I have made sure that Google Talk wasn't set to 'restrict background data' in the data manager; it wasn't.
What could cause this? What can I check?

when you are viewing a contact in People app and you switch away, if you go back to People it will loose context and show you the main list again. this is definitely an intended behavior and one of the worst usability flaws of the Android OS. maybe replacing the People icon with a shortcut to a special activity? do i need to patch the source for this?

I am using IMO for Instant Messaging and so i removed the TALK app from my Nexus one (running Oxygen Rom) using Titanium backup.Recently there was an update in TALK app and i wanted to try it (Hangouts) so i installed it from the playstore. It was very slow on my mobile so i removed it again.
Now i am getting Talk notifications (with the old TALK icon) in the notification bar. along with the IMO notifications. When i click on the Talk notifications it does not open any app. and the messages that are notified by TALK are missing in the IMO app so its very frustrating.
So i thought it must be the HANGOUTS app and re installed it from the Play Store. Now i get Hangout notification, Talk notification and IMO notification. I removed the Hangouts app from the Application Manager and i still getting the TALK notifications.

I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

I have been trying to setup a Droid to Droid 3G connection. I can confirm that all works great in wifi mode. The Droid can make connection requests (Http, Telnet, raw sockets) in 3G, but I cannot get the Droid to accept a socket connection in 3G mode. I was told by Verizon that a special license may be needed to accept socket connection requests and they would send me some information. So far none has been received. If anyone knows how to program the Droid to accept socket connection requests over 3G, please respond. Also if anyone knows why this not allowed please respond.

I want to create a browser to view as an administration. My project is about ferry booking using an android phone. The application is connected to the server. The ferry timing and other info are retrieved via server connection. The database is currently in Microsoft Access. My question is how do I create a browser to view data (e.g view users, delete users, create notification etc etc)? I want to create so called a 'website' that have access to the same database as the android application. Do I use Microsoft Visual Studio? How am I suppose to create a connection to Microsoft Access so that I can edit the database appropriately?

My galaxy S2 was working fine. I used google play a couple of days ago without any problem and today when I tried to update my app systemPanel from google play (or any other app), I got the error:
Update for 'systemPanel app/Task Manager' could not be downloaded due to an error. (error retrieving info from server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])
what exactly does it mean? I googled it and tried the clear data/cache of google play/google frame and it did not work.
I have also deleted then added back my gmail account and it did not work.
I couldn't install any app either. I got the same error when I tried to install any app from Google play store.

Both of my 3G and wifi connections work on the browser, but don't when connecting the play store. I looked into and and tried a bunch of solutions to fix it. I cleared data for all google apps, tried turning on/off auto sync, restarted router, re-flashed google apps. Every single time the app doesn't even ask to set up an account, when I click it it only says no connection, as if it never reset. It happened even when I flashed gapps again. When I go to my account it says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" and under my account name it says Sync Error. I'm rooted running the liquidsmooth rom ( which I've been running for about 2 months no problems) and I'm running out of options. I really do not want to have to resort to a total reset, or going back to a backup I had in my recovery because it is super old.
Deleted a file called "hosts" in /etc in root explorer!

Google Playstore can't connect to the internet (it says no connection). Wifi connection is OK. I can browse the web and the apps (that needs internet connection) works fine. The wifi notification icon is color gray (I know that it must be blue if there is internet connection). I've tried cleaning Playstore's cache, re-install the PlayStore, checked the system date &a time, and reseting the tablet, still the problem exist.
I don't think that the PlayStore caused the problem. Is there any other solutions other than the ones mentioned above. Do I need to re-install a driver or something? Can re-installing/installing a firmware fix this?
My tablet: SoftwinerEvb; Android 4.0.4. (a not so well known firmware)
