General :: Deep Sleep And Kernel Configuration
Apr 30, 2012
my phone (xperia x10i, unlocked bl) doesn't enter deep sleep and CPU Spy shows deep sleep among cpu unused states.
I have obviously looked for all the tweaks in several threads, with no result. Though I am using Cobrato Miui 2.3.2 with the kernel modded by Cobrato himself, I will try another kernel and somehow I'll get out of trouble.
- if is there a way, from xterm, to access kernel-config, without using an app with its UI (I don't like UIs, which I find misleading);
- if I can check via terminal emulator how deep sleep is configured and what it actually is, because answers like "it is a conservative cpu status" don't mean much to me, I'd like to know the frequency of deep sleep for my phone and if it can be blocked or activated in any way.

my Infuse 4g uses 25% of the battery when it's in deep sleep during the 6 hours I sleep. Yes, it is in deep sleep. Yes I have BBS. There are only one or two wakelocks for only a couple minutes each for twitter sync and things like that. How can it possibly be using that much battery in deep sleep? It's on CM10, but the problem only appeared after having it installed for several days. Normally I get maybe 2-5% use over my sleep period.
I thought deep sleep = deep sleep and it has a constant near-zero power consumption.

I have an HTC Rezound running Android 4.0.1, and I notice that it very rarely enters sleep mode, even after the screen has been off for a very long period of time.
Is there any way I can determine which apps are keeping the phone from entering sleep mode? ..or which app is waking it up constantly, whichever the case may actually be?
I have tried doing a logcat and just let it run for a while after turning the screen off, but I'm not quite sure what to look for in the results..

It is preventing the phone from going into deep sleep, therefore consuming 20% of battery overnight. This does not happens all the timeI have included a screenshot below.

I tried various methods now to backup content of internal storage of my Nexus 4: Plain drag-n-drop in windows explorer, commandline adb pull, Android Commander with copy or pull. All methods fail at the point where they get tho a bunch of files like this one:
Code:
/storage/sdcard0/Android/data/com.ptvag.android.adacmapformembers/cache/web/b/20/http___ajaxmaps1.adac.de_Default.aspx_ajaxmaps_MapServlet_left_938290_top_7193029_right_1251027_bottom_6880292_width_256_height_256_profileGroup_hd_version_ADAC_TourPlanerEU_2012_2_hiddenLayers_Town
Yes, this are 280 characters and Windows (7) seems to allow only 256.
Are there other methods to backup internal storage?

I bought a generic tablet. A Boxchip A13@ 1.2Ghz, GPU Mali400,, 512Ram.. etc.
The thing is I flashed it with a compatible rom, but some configurations are wrong.I got wrong button mapping, and aI solved it, but Not the strangest thing happens... it seems the configuration of rotation is allways a step behind.
having 4 possible positons (Portrait, Upside down portrait, Landscape and Upside down landscape),When I put it n the poision of landscape, the screen rotates to upside down portrait. In upside down portrait to upside down landscape, in upside down landsacpe goes to portrait, and in portrait it goes to landscape. It's driving me nuts! haha I temporarily disabled rotation, but It's a nice thing to have enabled.. In conclusion, It seems the configuration somehow maps the position +90 degrees clockwise more than it should. Where is it maped?

I have an Emgeton 7 inch tablet for which I'm trying out some different ICS ROMs on. The best ROM I have found so far has one issue: The screen orientation is 90 degrees out. The accelerometer actually works but it is set to 90 degrees "ahead"
How and where is the default settings for the accelerometer set and is it possible to change it without a re-compile? Would I be able to use anything from the stock ICS firmware to fix it?

I am looking for Deep effect in Android gallery. i did some work around coverflow at http://www.inter-fuser.com/search/label/Coverflow but it also do scroll left and right. it does give me the idea to calculate offset top and left for each item separately but still there is no access. what i am trying to do is, when user scroll, images would scroll from deep behind the right edge to center and then to left side deep behind.i am wondering if anyone have some thought about arranging the imageView's on deep offset (something like V shape ) rather than on horizontal as it is.

Managing Galaxy Note I & IIs running Android 4.1.2 and would like to direct network/browser traffic to a URL filtering service through a proxy server. Can confirm or deny (with supporting reference material) that Jelly Bean (specifically Android v4.1.2) has support for PAC files to configure proxy settings? The browsers I want to redirect to the proxy are Internet V4.1.2 (default with version 4.1.2 Android OS) and Chrome V 25.0.1364.169. Pointers to how to set proxies for those specific browser releases is also welcome.
If PAC file support does exist where does the PAC file need to be installed? How is it typically installed? Any documentation that reviews the PAC file support.

I apologize if these topics were already covered in previous threads.I wasn't able to find anything related in my searches. Auto-rotation for keyboard when answering a text message received in sleep mode does not work. If I actively send a text when phone is already awake, keyboard rotates with no problem but when I go to reply to a text that I received while phone is in sleep mode, the keyboard does not rotate. Is this the norm?I am also experiencing a delay when the I wake the phone. After unlocking the phone, I used to go straight to my home page, now I get a "loading" message which takes several seconds. Is this due to the number of apps I have loaded? Is it possibly due to number of photo frames I have on my home screen or the complexity of the wallpaper?

I installed 4.1.1 on a MB525 (Defy) according to the honorable post in <http:[url]....
One thing I am missing is: Configuration options for the IMAP account are not as fine granular as in the stock Motorola. Especially I can't configure to an IMAP server supporting the following:
* OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 LITERAL+ SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID ENABLE STARTTLS AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=DIGEST-MD5 AUTH=CRAM-MD5] Dovecot ready.
Means: IMAP with STARTTLS and encrypted (MD5) password
What is supported by the 4.1.1: None, SSL/TLS, SSL/TLS (all certs accepted), STARTTLS, STARTTLS (all certs accepted). What I would need is STARTTLS with password encryption md5 (automatically detected or fixed configurable).

Now I'm not a professional reviewer, but I think I have some good insight to share. Also you may be wondering why this is in the EVO 4G forum, well the EVO is considered one of the best phones out there and I happen to own an EVO myself. I think the phone is great, but I'm usually critical of my devices and I like to take a look at the keyboard as I'm an avid texter. I see a lot of posts of people wondering why one keyboard is not as accurate as another phone. If you're a big texter and you're looking for a really good text phone, I promise this is a good read. So what makes the best touch QWERTY keyboard? Well we would have to look at the criteria of what makes the best QWERTY keyboard:
Keyboard layout
Capacitive touch screen quality
Multitouch
Accuracy of predictive text
If a phone can do all of these things perfectly, you'll have a phone that will be a texting monster. Lets take a look at what I think is the most important criteria, keyboard layout.
Portrait Keyboard Layout
Unfortunately, I think the EVO comes in last for keyboard layout. It has the largest screen, but it wastes most of it with its oversized cursor buttons. The cursor buttons need to be smaller for the other keys to breathe and need to be in a D-Pad layout. If the keyboard is top notch, we shouldn't be using the cursor keys so frequently to fix errors. Also why the keyboard takes up 2/3 of the screen confuses me. This is purely opinion, but I would rather have the "hide keyboard" button not take up space and move it in the upper right like the Nexus One and iPhone as a "Done" button. Lastly the EVO has the shortest "width wise" space bar. The space bar is used frequently and shouldn't be gimped like that. So that leaves the Nexus 1 and iPhone. If you look closely, the iPhone has the most space between keys. Most typing errors are from keys being so close together and hitting the wrong key.
The EVO faces the same problem, although the keys are bigger, so are the keys that are right next to it. Bottom line, keys not only need to be bigger, they need more breathing room in between each other. Another close detail is the "q" and "p" key. The EVO has those keys farther away from the edge of the screen than the iPhone and Nexus 1. The edge of the screen is the least responsive area, so is this space a benefit or a negative? My take on it is that one of two things happen, you either hit the neighboring key, or the key doesn't register at all. If you hit the neighboring key, it takes much longer to edit, rather than to just try and hit the key again. So even though the edge is less responsive, its more beneficial to have the "q" and "p" key closer to the edge and away from its neighboring key. Portrait Keyboard layout goes to iPhone, 2nd Nexus1, 3rd EVO 4G
Landscape Keyboard Layout
Next is landscape mode. I thought this deserved to be addressed as it changes everything. Although the iPhone still has more space between the keys, I'm gonna have to give this landscape mode to the EVO. Unfortunately the space bar on the EVO is STILL the shortest out of the three. So why does landscape make such a big difference even though the keys on the EVO are tightly packed? Well the difference is that the keys are now squares, instead of thin rectangles. This increases accuracy a lot and pretty much negates the disadvantages of having narrow spaces in between the keys. Again HTC could of capitalized on more space for the general keys by not taking up so much space with the cursor keys. As for the Nexus1, the keys are slightly bigger than the iPhone, but are still really tightly packed, so I would say its a tie.
Landscape mode goes to EVO, tie for iPhone and Nexus 1
Capacitive Touch Screen Quality
What good is a keyboard if the screen can't even read your touch actions? I know that the EVO is not tested in this, but we can still use this as a base of comparison. I really believe that the quality of the screen plays a very big role in the responsiveness of your touch actions. Nothing is more annoying then having your touch actions not being registered correctly or not at all. Right off the bat, the Nexus1 is out. So its now the iPhone and EVO 4G. From what I have read, but I can't seem to find the article. The EVO 4G uses a much higher quality capacitive touch screen compared to the Nexus1, most likely very close to the iPhone. So I'll say its a tie between the EVO and iPhone.
Capacitive Touch Screen quality goes to, EVO 4G/iPhone tie, 2nd Nexus 1.
Multitouch
With a multitouch keyboard you're able to type faster. All those fast typers out there can really appreciate a multitouch keyboard. I'm not sure if the Nexus1 supports this, but I don't think it does, so correct me if I'm wrong. So in this case you either have multitouch keyboard or you don't and the iPhone is the only one to have it.
Multitouch goes to iPhone, tie for EVO 4G and Nexus1
Accuracy of Predictive Text
I don't have any experience in this on the Nexus1, but only on the EVO 4G and iPhone. So anyone can chime in if I'm incorrect on this matter. I would think the EVO and Nexus1 would be the same considering they're both Android devices. From my experience and watching many videos, it seems like the iPhone does a better job at correcting and predicting text input compared to the EVO.
Predictive text goes to the iPhone, tie for EVO 4G/Nexus1
Misc
So the last thing I think all the phones adds a little something to make texting easier that doesn't quite fit the criteria. The iPhone OS has a pretty neat magnifying glass where you can move the cursor. I found this extremely handy. The EVO 4G has the cursor buttons instead, which isn't as slick, but can prove to be more precise. Then finally both the EVO 4G and Nexus1 has the voice to text feature from Google, which is pretty dang accurate.
MISC goes to the EVO 4G, tie for iPhone/Nexus1
So what phone do you think has the best, most accurate touch QWERTY keyboard? Is it one of these three, or another phone out there. Also what do you think makes the best touch QWERTY keyboard phone? I appreciate those who took the time to read, took me a while to type up.

I don't know how the hell this happened. There was absolutely no chance that this could have happened, but it did. The scratch is on the screen towards the bottom left and is deep enough that if you scratch your nail over it, you hear the concavity.
I don't believe this. I'm not able to call customer service at the moment, but I think I can get them to replace the phone. Honestly, I was so careful with it! I don't know what happened! I needed to vent. Scratches can still happen everyone.

So I expected this as I have friends with iPhones and I see it on their phones. Smudges! I hate smudges! So normally I just wipe it clean with a microfiber and it looks pretty good, however that does not always remove all the oils caught on the screen. I would think that over time, the oils sitting on the screen will end up degrading the screen or make it look nasty later on. I am wanting to clean it and not sure what to use. I have a cleaning kit we use on the document scanners at work. It has microfiber pads and a cleaning chemical which after reading the ingredients is just isopropyl rubbing alcohol.I heard the HTC Hero has a special coating on it that keeps it resistant to scratches and makes smudges easier to clean. My concern is that the isopropyl alcohol will beat up that coating. So after beating around the bush...the question is, what is the best way to do a good deep cleaning of the screen?

where I have got right now on my phone, which is:
1. I updated to stock 2.1 using the sprint update tool.
2. I followed the video tutorial to root the phone
3. then i used joey's page (http://www.joeyconway.com/sdx/custom/index.php) to install the his kernel (joeykrim-SDX-kernel v2.0.4 (includes root)).
I have done nothing else to the phone but this and removing a couple of bloatware apps (i checked the list of permitted deletions before i removed anything.) I have not installed a new recovery..at least i dont think that I did as part of one of the other operations I performed (as an aside, i am not really sure what the custom recovery is or what it is used for, so i didnt install it...i guess i need to read up more...)
So that is where I am..but i have a couple of questions.
1) i am now having issues with my wifi connection - the signal reception is very spotty in areas where i should have atleast 2 bars of reception, and the wifi often cuts out completely....Is there any know corellation between joey's kernel and this wifi issue? I have searched the forums and have found nothing that answers this.
2) Is there an easy way to get back to the stock kernel? I have read that i can get back to stock everything by using the sprint download center where I did my original 2.1 update. But is there a way to get back to just the stock kernel without wiping the phone?
