General :: Changing System Settings In ROM

I'm modifying a stock ROM for work to have everything setup and ready to go after flashing the tablets (currently we flash and run a setup app) and have run into an issue I can't seem to find an answer to.
I need to be able to set certain system settings, such as "USB Debugging", "Unknown Sources", "Display Timeout", and a few other things.
I presume its one of the files inside the system.img.ext4 but can't find one that has anything like this.

How to changes the following things in cyanogenmod..
1. How can I use simple dialing number like 06589658455 instead of 065-896-58455 (don't want " - " sign)
2. How can I enable animation on main screen wallpaper (watched a video where some green color line was moving down, up, left & right) how can I do it??
3. Right now when I open "Menu" & all my apps are there, I have to scroll up & down to check my apps, is there any possibility that these apps can spread to left right (like main window) instead of up down?

how can I change package name of com.android.settings to something else..I have edited the manifest file but after recompiling it gives me a bunch of errors...i want to install two Settings.apk 1st id original Stock Settings.apk and another GB Settings.apk which I obtained from source system.img but both have some errors and when I try to open something it gives me FC's Something works and something doesn't So if i have installed both the apk i can redirect bu editing apk files so i will not have any errors or FC's

I have a Galaxy Nexus running JB 4.2 and I've started playing around with (basic) customisation. Is it possible to change the colour of the Status and System Icons at the top of the screen from the default blue? Preferably to white. I have a nice dark look going courtesy of sammyycakes and others, the blue spoils it a bit.

I am using Apex now and I can change the icons in the drawer and homescreen but when i open the Recents menu or actually go into an app, the icons are still stock (or from applied theme).
Is it possible to change the icons system-wide or is there an app that can at least change the icons in the Recents menu?
My device is rooted running 4.1. .

I just got an Android running 2.3.5 and I really don't like the blue in the settings menus. Is there a way to get the colors back to gray scale? Also, is there a way to make all menus/submenus alphabetized? I don't know why they aren't.

My MMS is not working after flashing a custom rom ( HTC ONE X on VirginMobile Australia ).I realize its to do with the APN settings , I have updated them manually but the MNC field needs to show : 02 , currently its set to 029 - if I change it , it deletes the whole new APN I have put in and Im left with no connection at all.
Is there anyway to change this MNC field? I read on another forum that there is a way through ES File Explorer... going into system/etc and the APN file - but I tried that , and there is def. no APN file in system

I need to change the time on my LG Optimus M (Metro PCS) to compensate for the day light saving. however I can't find from where should I do it, I don't see anything else other than the time and date format under Date and time settings. I read about a Client NTP which solves the problem, however your phone needs to be rooted, is it safe to root them and run the Client NTP?Also is there any other ways to change the time?

I'm running a Galaxy Nexus, and the ROM I'm currently on has a performance option in the Settings Menu, which gives control of the kernel and stuff. However, I'd rather use TricksterMod, and I would like to be able to launch TricksterMod from Settings instead of the Performance app.
So far, I've decompiled my Settings.apk, and looked through the files, and I'm not sure what to change.
I have to change settings esxmlsettings_headers.xml, correct? Specifically,

I would also have to change settings esvaluesstrings.xml, specifically, the string referenced by "@string/performance_settings_title" so that I can have the correct name, correct?
And similarly, settings esdrawable, for the icon.
The big question is, what do I replace with for "com.android.settings.performance.PerformanceSetti ngs"? Do I need to move TricksterMod somewhere specific, or what would I reference? dataappcom.bigeyes0x0.trickstermod-1.apk?
After making all these changes, I'd simply recompile and push the Settings.apk back without signing, correct? Have I missed any steps?

When I change between governors, I noticed that a governor folder will be created under sys/device/cpu/cpufreq. Within this folder, it contains all the settings and values for this governor. how these settings and values are generated?
I want to modify some settings of the smartassv2. However, if I tried to modify it during the normal, mksh will eat my CPU. I really can't figure out why and this only happens to smartassv2. So I'm looking for an alternative way to modify these settings.

Context: Today im investigating how works android classes:
android.provider.Settings.Secure and android.provider.Settings.System
both works over settings.db into
data/data/com.google.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db.
There is something that surprised me:
When I had never changed one of settings, for example LOCK_PATTERN_ENABLED, the method:
getString(ContentResolver resolver, String name) returned null.
By default lock pattern is disabled when i activated it, method returned 1 and then when disabled returned 0.
My question: is true that when you havent changed the value of a setting, the system goes to look for its default value out of settings.db? and is true that this value at settings.db until you change it is null?
I've read some post about it, but no one working against api. For who may be interested: [URL] .......
I decompiled Settings.apk, SettingsProvider.apk and Phone.apk. There you can find some bools.xml where are stablished default values for some settings I've not found yet every setting I need.

Me and a friend are trying to port a system app from the same phone but two different roms. Here's the situation. The phone is zopo zp998 and it comes with regular Android 4.2.2. Zopo is making the exact same phone for the Chinese market with on OS based on Android 4.2.2 that's called YunOS and it doesn't have Google account support so it's not usable outside China.
The YunOS has a black screen gesture feature that you can activate in the settings under display and then while the screen is Black you can make symbols on it with your finger and open specific apps. For instance if you draw the letter C the dialer will open.
My friend was able to find the system app for the gestures in YunOS and all its library files and put it in his rom. When the phone boots we can see that the gestures service is running fine but we don't have the option in the settings to activate the app. we can use on how to transfer a system setting and app like this? Is there another app we can use to trigger the on and off of the app?

Problem: I have two batteries, default one and Mugen one. Every time I change a battery the phone system time resets.
What I have tried to do: Set "Automatic date & time" and "Automatic time zone" on - No luck. Restar after set on -
Install different NTP server synchronizing app. I am in china, so it could not connect to the server and I get error every time, even after change to chinese NTP server - Still no luck...
Install different GPS synchonizing app, sometimes it work sometimes not and it takes too long to synchronize.

I have installed the [ROM] Lenovo P780 Pre-rooted Official ROMs for Flash Tool with TWRP and now I do not find the "USB Debugging" option in the App option of System Settings. Instead appear a list of the applications installed where I can select any app change options.
This ROM comes configured to Root as default.

after changing some router settings (like the number of the channel) my SGS2 on 4.0.3 ICS doesn't connect anymore. WiFi itself is working fine, except the AP of the router i changed. Deleting all AP information and reentering all WPA2 data will change nothing. In my eyes the phone is not forgetting AP data completely when you try to delete an AP entry.

My OEM's preloaded rom is almost-nearly stock, apart from 2 things:
1. White background on "system settings" interface and not the default holo. Cant that be changed to default?
2. Ribbon effect instead of flash-light in holo effect, which tbh is quite annoying, because the ribbon effect is also quite large and in slower animation speed so that,s 1 second of frustation everytime i scroll to the end. (Yea, 1 second isnt much but, add those up and it gets annoying really fast)
How can these be changed back to default without installing a custom rom?

I've had the Sprint EVO for about a week now and love it, except for the fact that the email settings keep changing. I go in and change the notification settings to Notification Sound "On", and then, sometimes, a few hours later, when I notice that I haven't heard any emails come in, I'll check the settings and see that Notification Sound is now "Off." Same thing with download frequency and delete email on server.

I changed the default Droid Sans font with Helvetica Neue (which looks gorgeous by the way) and rebooted, worked perfectly. I then decided to change the bold version as well, rebooted, but now I'm stuck at the red Droid eye loading screen over and over again (not the Motorola logo). It just loads for a couple seconds then flashes then repeats. I'm 100% sure I didn't misspell anything and I still have the backups of the fonts in the system folder but how can I now boot into the phone without factory resetting it?

If I customize all of my alerts for SMS, email, calls, etc., to sounds (no vibrate), and put the phone in vibrate mode, does it replace all of these sounds with vibration? So that there is no sound coming out of the phone? Same with if I put the phone on silent? I would hope you don't have to go in and change the notification settings for each application to vibrate if you want vibrate, right?I've read some stuff that suggested that this could happen, and it doesn't make sense, but I wanted to make sure.

I just bought Beautiful Widgets for it's compact time/weather widget, (gained another row of icons on home screen) When you first create a widget with this, there are many configuration options, but it appears the only way to change something is to delete the old widget and create another one. Is this true, or is there a way to edit the options for an existing widget? EDIT: Found the answer in another forum. Tap the weather icon. then menu. I'd delete this, but I can't find an option to delete my post.

This is my 3rd week with my Captivate and the first week that I'm on call for work. We use a paging system that sends me texts when I get paged.Last nite, unfortunately, as I slept with the phone next to the bed, I kept hearing notification sounds when email came in, and had to check my phone to make sure I wasn't getting paged.Is there anyway to set the notification bar to only notify me when a text comes in? Or is there a way to shut off the sounds for email and other notification messages over nite?

I just updated to Galaxhero and I love it except one quite big and annoying problem with internet connection. Problem occurs when I try to set up the APN for my service provider. I have to change the MNC from 05 to 21. So I did put all the settings in and pressed save. What happens I found out the whole APN is gone.
Played around a bit with it, and noticed that if I touch to MNC setting and change it to other than 05, it causes that very APN to disappear from APN list. Is there any way to fix this? Somehow maybe modifying the "default" MNC to 21 if there's no fix for the disappearing one? Sad thing is that I don't have 3g without it.

So I changed my DPI setting to 150 since in launcher pro I use 5 rows instead of 4 so it doesn't overlap etc. And wanted to ask if changing the DPI setting may affect the battery usage (recalculating screen) or CPU (making it slower) or the games will lag? etc.
Changed it back, I think was lagging and the text boxes were smaller not on the whole page. And the confirmations had green lines in the middle.
How I did it:
1. Root Explorer , mount R/W in system
2. Open in text editor.
3. Edit the build.prop line with ro.sf.lcd_density=150 and save the file
4. mount R/O and reboot
Still if someone knows something about the battery usage and cpu etc. So I know in future if I should play around with this one.
