Is there an app that lets me automatically turn on wifi when I try to connect to the Internet and after a while not using it to disable it? I really need that because I hate toggling wifi and sometimes my sister doesn't disable it and my battery is drained

how to disable this but i have never had my phone actually auto install any of my apps after i install a new ROM or do a hard reset or anything of the sort, i'll have to install all one by one. how or is it possible to enable this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to enable the active scanning mode on my HTC Desire but still got no luck. I've forced Android and wpa supplicant to go in to active mode. I've retraced this and the forcing works but when wpa supplicant tries to set the driver in active mode it always got set in passive mode and I can't force it in to active mode.
Any way to force an android device to scan active for wifi networks? It doesn't mind if It's on another device. I'm desperate to get it to work.
And I know it's not power efficient but that's not the goal. The only goal is to scan as fast as possible. Scanning in active mode should make this possible.

I moved from Galaxy S4 to Galaxy Note 2.
Everytime I take a new phone, during initial setup it gives me to restore my settings from Google which when I enable I get all my saved wifi-access points.
This time however by mistake I didn't allow Google to restore that data in my Note 2 so now I haven't got any saved WiFi passwords.

Is there an app that lets you sync over your home network to your computer without sitting at it?All the apps i find that let you sync over wifi require you to set the connection up each time you want to do it. I can connect my USB cable quicker, I want to be able to get home press a button on the screen and it will sync (like HTC Sync does for me just now).

From what I read until now there is a SCREEN_BRIGHTNESS_MODE in Settings.System but only for API level 8 or higher and also not recommended to mess wit it. But currently my phone has Android 2.1 (API 7) and there are widgets that can control this setting (enable/disable auto brightness and set the level). How is this done?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just recently moved from Nokia E75 to HTC Desire, and there are lots of stuff on the E75 that I will never miss... But, there are a couple of things I am missing very much, tho. One thing was a very clever feature that saved a lot of battery... On my HTC Desire I have to leave wlan enabled at all time for the phone to utilize wireless at all, and I can see that it's consuming approx 20% of the battery power - even if no apps or widgets are accessing internet.
But on the Nokia E75 it's very different... The wlan is switched off by default, so whenever an application on the E75 needs a data connection (internet), it will quickly enable wlan and check to see if there are any networks nearby it can access, and then disable it again if it doesn't find any. (If no wlan access point is detected, it will go online using the mobile data connection automatically instead)
I want to develop an application that disable the Background Data (new feature in Android 1.5) and Auto Sync and then enable GPRS/EDGE connection and vice versa.
I figured out how to enable/disable GPRS/EDGE by changing the APN settings. (weird solution. However; Android developers couldn't think a user may want to disable GPRS/EDGE) But, I couldn't find a way to enable/disable Auto Sync and Background data.
I investigated the Android code and as I understood, the Sync operation is an intend. So, I wanted to reach with putExtra to the intend and trigger the enabling/disabling. But; I couldn't find the correct keyword.
I am looking for a way to automate my Android phone connecting to an SSH server when the phone connects to an unsecured wifi network. My understanding is that this is adequate to keep my traffic from being sniffed by DroidSheep (Android), FireSheep (Windows), or other packet sniffers.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
Does anyone know if there's an app to automatically change the WIFI state (on/off) based on whether the power is plugged in? I'd like to set mine up to turn on wifi whenever I'm plugged in to a power source.
