General :: Additional Languages In AOSP Keyboard (4.2.2)
Mar 4, 2013
Currently I'm running SlimBean 4.2.2 on I9000, which probably stripped the stock keyboard off most languages.I came from CM10.1 in which gesture/word suggestion typing worked in all languages.I was wondering if it is possible to add additional languages manually? Or maybe take the complete android stock keyboard out of the CM zip file and install it in my ROM.

How can I type anything in Chinese? I have an X 10 mini and it would be really important to me to be able to write messages or notes in Chinese.

i flashed a new update of Xylon-Rom (clean flash) on my Nexus 4. Installed and restored all Apps. Usually I use Swiftkey 4 as keyboard, so I set up everything like all the times before. The last times everything works fine, but this time not. I set up SK as my standard keyboard and began to write. After a while I wanted to write again, but suddenly there was the AOSP keyboard. Changed back to SK. But after some moments it happend again. So everytime when there is a text input AOSP appears.. I change back to SK then, but after turning screen on some minutes later AOSP again.
As it would be not enough, the same thing is happening since yesterday on my gf phone (HTC One S, also rooted with Carbon Rom). Like on my phone, it never happenend before. What I've done till now? Erased App-Data of both keyboards, disabled AOSP keyboard. Everything without success.
Dont know why it happens now... I often flash other Roms, Updates etc and I use Swiftkey for a long time. Restoring with Titanium works everytime. And this time i haven't done any other thing on Restoring.

I have android 4.3 AOSP keyboard, which works nice, but I want to add my language dictionary to it.
Main problem is that I have some brut.Androlib errors when compiling this one (when decompiling, no issues appear), and when I check if the APKTool added my wanted files to the apk I can only see that it almost recompiled the original file ('almost' because when I push it to the system/app dir, my system doesn't see this keyboard).
Another, less important question, can I use dictionary from another keyboard app (I guess I can, but just want to be sure)?
Screen os from ics decompiler, and this is what came in cmd using apktool, when I try to install framework-res:
W: Config flags size > 36. Exceeding bytes: 0x2000000.
W: Invalid config flags detected: drawable-nodpi-v8-ERR0
W: Config flags size > 36. Exceeding bytes: 0x2000000.
W: Invalid config flags detected: drawable-v8-ERR1

I have compiled AOSP 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi (GT-P7510) and have encountered an interesting issue with the soft keyboard. For some strange reason, when I touch a text entry field and the soft keyboard appears on the screen, it seems to paint incorrectly. rather than spanning the entire width of the display, it seems to be "squished" over to the left a bit and there is maybe a half-inch of empty gray space showing in the display to the right of the keyboard. However, the thing that makes it more interesting is that the actual digitizer mappings for the keyboard seem correct. As a result, I have to press somewhere between O and P for example to get an O to appear, trying to press L does a K or I, etc. The problem does seem to lie with how the UI is painting the keyboard onto the screen.
I've tried installing an alternate keyboard to see if it was specific to LatinIME but it doesn't seem to be...no matter what keyboard I use, the issue remains.
I've checked in my device and vendor trees used to build the ROM, and can't find anything that appears to be setting anything related. Is it a bad lib maybe, or something else that needs to be tweaked in the source or kernel? I'm fairly new to this and haven't encountered anything like it. I've successfully built AOSP 4.0.4 and never saw this type of behavior.

i'm pretty happy with the stock keyboard on my HTC DESIRE but i get really annoyed that there is no fast key for switching between the input language. i live in sweden and write often in either swedish or english and would like a keyboard that has a button on it somewhere for fast switching between these two languages.
as it is now, i go into options and select the language which is not so bad to do once a week but its a pain when your switching 10 times a day. and why do reviewers say the android keyboard is no good and always praise the iphone one? is the stock keyboard really that bad? whats a good alternative?

I like the default keyboard that comes with the HTC Desire. However, the languages supported are only English, French and Spanish. Is there anyway to add any more? I would like to write in Italian, and it would be good to add this dictionary to the phone.

I'm using dsixda to slim a rom for my desire (Oxygen 2.2.2, AOSP). I've deleted all the unused apks, sounds and replaced the stock launcher (gaining 20mb for the system partition). The last thing I have to do is to delete all the languages from the system beside English (UK). Which file do I need to delete?

I recently got my hands on a cheap mt6572 phone and I intended to give it as a gift, but it only has english and some Asian languages available in the settings menu, and since the person I was going to give this phone to doesn't speak english or any sort of chinese-like language, I'd like to know if it is possible to add other languages to the android(4.2.2) running on this phone. Considering that those apps on the store that supposedly add languages have already been tested and don't seem to work.

is there a way to have voice recognition so that we can use it for writing sms in languages other than the custom ones like Greek? I bought Cyberon voice commander but it wont write sms and I am asking if there is a way to use the Cyberor's language engine with Google's Voice Search or Vlingo? I tried to set it on the voice recognizer under voice input and output settings but nothing!

I have a lenovo a690 that I would like to add Vietnamese to. I have tried morelocale2 but it doesn't really translate much. If anything could show me how to decompile the framework res and the settings and then somehow add the language module into the apk and make a zip file for it.
I know basic adb commands and have android SDK set up...but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

What are the differences between RUU and AOSP ROMs?
Am I correct that a RUU rom is a fully stock rom that some devs post with or without root? Like basically the latest version of non OTA for your device?
I feel like this is something basic that I should know but just haven't come across it.

I have added a second Gmail account to the app on my Nexus 7. I did so by going to Settings > Accounts and adding the new email address there. The email address now appears in the Gmail app and all is working fine.
My problem however, is that when i pull down the right hand menu on the homescreen (quick settings menu ?), the account that is shown in the top left corner is now the newly added account instead of my original, and main, account and tapping on the image only brings up the contact info for the second account.
I've looked everywhere and don't seem to be able to change it back to my regular account. I've opened Gmail, Play Store and G+ and made sure they're all set to the main account but it hasn't worked.
how I get the drop down (quick settings) menu to display the correct account ?

I have the HTC One running Android 4.1.2. stock. I was wondering if it was possible do have the caller ID image go fullscreen without an additional app.
I've used a couple apps before, but there always seems to be an extra step, and it seems to interrupt the normal usage of the phone, like having to press more buttons just to hang up and the like.
I guess I'm asking whether or not we'll ever be able to have fullscreen caller ID images natively.Or, is there an app that more or less seamlessly integrates into the phone experience so there doesn't have to be extra button pushes?
I'm using an app called Not Call Log that I can set to take back to the home screen after a call instead of well... the call log. lol Do you think that may be interfering with Fullscreen Caller ID apps? Is there a way to not have the phone go back to the Call Log after a call natively?

It seems there is a general voice search / voice recognition issue with non-english languages. The problem is basically that punctuation is written in plain and not recognized. It seems to affect a number of devices (if not all?) running ICS / JB.
So period will write "period" and not "." .
Same for comma that will end in writing "comma" and not ",".
(this of course in each different Language)
This basically makes the voice recognition totally unusable and useless for anything but English. So far, this issue has been reported with the following languages:
French
German
Spanish
Italian
I'm not allowed to post links yet but if you go to Android official project page, in the Issues and search for punctuation, you'll basically see all those.

I want to create a light rom for my RK2818 tablet. I removed lots of apk's, and it works fine. Now, I want to delete the unnecessary languages and dictionaries from the keyboard (LatinIME.apk).
How can I do it? Can I simply remove the folders like resaw-da with Total Commander (compression set to 0)? I want to keep English and Hungarian languages only.
I'm also interested in more tips to speed up this unofficial cyanogenmod 2.3.7 rom, because this old chinese tablet with 256mb ram is only used to watch movies and browse the internet. I've already updated the hosts file with the adfree version, and removed the following apk's:
ADWLauncher.apk (replaced with LauncherPro)
Bluetooth.apk (no BT in this device)
Calendar.apk
CalendarProvider.apk
Camera.apk (no cam...)
CMStats.apk
CMUpdateNotify.apk
[code]....
Can I remove any of these? I want to remove everything wich is not important.

My company has recently received some new android hardware and has requested that I create a custom operating system for the device. The manufacturer has agreed to provide us with the existing android source, but I have a few questions to get started:
On the following link: [URL] .......
It states that I need to add lines similar to the below to my "51-android.rules" file:"
# adb protocol on maguro/toro (Galaxy Nexus)
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="6860", MODE="0600", OWNER="<username>"
How do I determine the correct information to use for this process? Should I collect this information with the device connected to a windows PC?
Once connected, I would like to scrap their existing operating system and begin from AOSP source, what information from their original source should I retain (Kernel, bootloader, etc), and what information would I be required to remove to bring in AOSP?
But most seem to be specifying nexus devices, or devices which already have a strong developer backing, neither of which apply to this hardware.

I've just run trough all the setps to be able to build aosp on ubuntu. Currently I'm running a build, looks like it will take a while.
My goal is to build an aosp rom for the samsung galaxy chat, samsung provides downloads for 'platform' and kernel.
My question is, what should I do with the sources of the kernel and the platform, do I need to integrate them into the aosp source?
