I want to go to a web page on the click of a button in my android app. So say, I have a button called "Google", when the user clicks on that button I want google.com to open up on the screen. How is this achieved?
Also, is there a way I can gain control back to my app once the user is finished with google?
Is there a way to bypass the standard lock screen or set GOTO as my default because sometimes i have to go through both? and is there a way to get handcent as the default app it opens instead of the default messenger?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a notification in the status bar for my app.The problem with this is that when you press the home button from the app (pushing it to the background) then press on the notification in the list accessed from the status bar, it starts a fresh copy of the activity. All I want to do is resume the app (like when you longpress the home button and press on the app's icon). Is there a way of creating an Intent to do this?

Is there a way of recieving a notification of some sort when a activity is launched. I'd like to monitor which applications are used and how often. Is is possible to register for some broadcast telling me when an application is launched, installed, unistalled etc? I believe I found a discussion or solution to this yesterday when I was looking for something else, but I'm not able to find it today.

View 2 Replies View RelatedApplication (non-wanted) behavior - application is started, some text is put into text-box and notification is created through button action. user "clicks" the home button, application is "minimized", notification is available in bar user selects the notification and the application is "maximized"
BUT - instead of the original instance, new instance is started (e.g. in the newest instance is missing the original text; when the latest instance is closed there is still the original instance with original text ) .
The code of the notification method
CODE:.....
I have also in the manifest xml file following tag android:launchMode="singleTask"
But it is still the same...The main problem is double/triple initialization of the application, i know that there are other means to preserve the values in resumed applications. Also it is needed that the applications stays running in background as the main functionality is the streaming of internet radio.
What is missing in the code ? What kind of information from my side is missing for to troubleshoot the issue ?
I create an application which displays the notification when the service starts. If an user navigates to HOME screen (without exiting the application), the user could still go back to the previous application by pressing on the notification icon. This is very similar case as the track recording service in Google application "My Track".
I want the existing activity as Single Top activity since it has associated service running. However when my application tries to bring the existing activity to front via notification, the existing activity's onDestroy has been called which causes problem. How can I skip this onDestroy method? Here is my current codes:
CODE:............................
I have one Android application, when it runs a service, I want to show the notification on the status bar. Then the user could navigate to other application by pressing HOME key. However when I try to bring the previous running application back to Front via notification icon, there is some problem with the existing activity. Even I declare it as "Single Top" mode (I want to run the existing activity since there is an associated service running) , somehow that activity's OnDestroy has been called before OnResume. Here is my code of creating the notification object.

Is there any way for an activity to register for being notified if a wait/force close dialog is shown or alternatively if the user selects force close, a way to detect that in ondestroy()?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem with a notification not opening/going to the correct activity when it has been clicked. My notification code (located in a class which extends Service):
Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence contentTitle = "Notification";
CharSequence contentText = "New Notification";
final Notification notifyDetails = new Notification(R.drawable.icon, "Consider yourself notified", System.currentTimeMillis());
Intent notifyIntent = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,notifyIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL);
notifyDetails.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, intent);
((NotificationManager)getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE)).notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notifyDetails);
If I click the notification while the application which created the service is open, the notification disappears (due to the FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL) but the activity does not switch. If I click the notification from the home screen, the notification disappears and my app is brought to the front, however it remains on the activity which was open before going to the home screen, instead of going to the main screen. How do I specify the activity that will be pulled up?
I am currently showing a notification. When the user clicks this noticiation, the application is started. The notification persists, to indicate that the service is running in the background.
CODE:..............
However, I have detected a case where a bug appears. If the user starts the application through clicking the normal icon, and while the activity is running clicks the notification, then a new activity is started without the earlier one exiting, the later being on top of the earlier. And that is not all: Further clicks on the notification will create additional activities and place them on top of those already running. How can I prevent this? Is there a nice check to do to see if a certain activity is currently being shown or is loaded?
I have an android background Service that will occasionally post a notification to the Status Bar using the Notification class. Occasionally, when I receive a notification, pull-down the notification window, and select the notification from the list, the specified Activity doesn't start. When this happens, the screen dims (as if it were about to display the Activity), but the Activity is never shown. I included my code below...
NOTE: The UserNotification class extends Activity, and is set to a dialog theme in the manifest. This class also has its taskAffinity property set to "" in the manifest.
I'm looking to find out how to stop an activity instead of resuming upon the click of the item on the notification list. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created an activity which sends a number of notifications to status bar. Each notification contains an intent with a bundle.
Here is the code:
CODE:..............
When user clicks this notifications, I read the bundle string "action" and performs that action. Here is the code:
CODE:.................
Everything works as expected. But, when I minimize the app using "arrow" button on device and then press and hold home button and clicks on my app icon the application starts and performs the same last action which have been performed by clicking the last notification. I figured out that when we click the app icon the application starts with last intent triggered by the notification.
Has anyone been successful showing a notification, starting an activity, or loading the home screen *during* a call on the Droid? All three of these actions can be done with the emulator running 2.0, but will not run from the Droid. I don't receive any type of notification that these actions fail on the Droid. Although, every action works when a call is *not* active. Missed calls during a call *do* show up in the notification bar, so I am hoping there is a way.
I understand that the notification bar can not be accessed by users during calls, but it would be nice if a notification could at least be delivered. I also understand the security and usability concerns of displaying a window or action during phone calls. Although, there are a lot of users who would like actionable functionality based on calls.
Is there any way to detect whether the Notification Windows is being shown? I have a service that updates an ongoing notification, complete with a progress bar and text? Is there a way to know if the notifiication screen is actually being shown, so I can adjust how often I wouldn't be so concerned if not for the fact that the HTC Incredible will reboot after it receives several hundred or so updates. Based on a controlled experiment with a beta tester, the service could continue for 24 hours if it did not update progress, but dies after several hundred updates. So I am desperate to reduce the notifications, if that's what works, and one of the ways I could do that is by not updating as much or at all if that screen isn't being shown.
