Android :: Clicking On Notification In Status Bar Binds The Intent With Target Activity

Mar 25, 2010

I have created an activity which sends a number of notifications to status bar. Each notification contains an intent with a bundle.

Here is the code:

CODE:..............

When user clicks this notifications, I read the bundle string "action" and performs that action. Here is the code:

CODE:.................

Everything works as expected. But, when I minimize the app using "arrow" button on device and then press and hold home button and clicks on my app icon the application starts and performs the same last action which have been performed by clicking the last notification. I figured out that when we click the app icon the application starts with last intent triggered by the notification.

Android :: Prevent New Activity Instance After Clicking On Notification

Jun 24, 2010

Application (non-wanted) behavior - application is started, some text is put into text-box and notification is created through button action. user "clicks" the home button, application is "minimized", notification is available in bar user selects the notification and the application is "maximized"

BUT - instead of the original instance, new instance is started (e.g. in the newest instance is missing the original text; when the latest instance is closed there is still the original instance with original text ) .

The code of the notification method

CODE:.....

I have also in the manifest xml file following tag android:launchMode="singleTask"

But it is still the same...The main problem is double/triple initialization of the application, i know that there are other means to preserve the values in resumed applications. Also it is needed that the applications stays running in background as the main functionality is the streaming of internet radio.

What is missing in the code ? What kind of information from my side is missing for to troubleshoot the issue ?

Android :: Status Bar - Opening Correct Activity When Selecting Notification

May 26, 2010

I have been having a problem with a notification not opening/going to the correct activity when it has been clicked. My notification code (located in a class which extends Service):

Context context = getApplicationContext();
CharSequence contentTitle = "Notification";
CharSequence contentText = "New Notification";
final Notification notifyDetails = new Notification(R.drawable.icon, "Consider yourself notified", System.currentTimeMillis());
Intent notifyIntent = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,notifyIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL);
notifyDetails.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, intent);
((NotificationManager)getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE)).notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notifyDetails);

If I click the notification while the application which created the service is open, the notification disappears (due to the FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL) but the activity does not switch. If I click the notification from the home screen, the notification disappears and my app is brought to the front, however it remains on the activity which was open before going to the home screen, instead of going to the main screen. How do I specify the activity that will be pulled up?

Android :: Using FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP - But Don't Restart Target Activity?

Nov 21, 2009

I'd like to use FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP to launch an activity in my app. It has one feature I don't want though - it restarts the target intent, instead of just resuming it. Example history stack, with activity D making the call to B with that flag:

A B C D

new stack

A B

But 'B' gets relaunched, its onCreate() method is called. Since B is already in the history stack, is there a way I can use this flag, but have it *not* recreate B, just onResume() it again? The reordering flags are kind of what I need too, but they won't pop C and D, just reshuffle the stack so B comes to the top, but I want C and D to go away.

Android :: Launching Activity From Status Bar Creates New Activity / Even When One Already Exists

Nov 9, 2010

I have an activity that starts a long-running service which in turn adds an icon to the status bar. When the activity gets invisible, e.g. by pressing the Home button, and the pressing the icon in the status bar a new activity is created instead of showing the already created activity. If you now press the back button the new activity is destroyed and the activity created in the first place gets visible. How do I make the invisible activity brought to front when pressing the icon in the status bar instead of creating a new activity?

Android :: Exclude Own Activity From Activity.startActivity - Intent

Oct 17, 2010

My app works with pictures. It can take multiple pictures as an input, process them, and send them again to another app.

As a consequence, my main Activity has declared an intent filter on ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE for image/* mimetypes and can result in issuing a new Intent with the same action and data type using Activity.startActivity(Intent).

Is there a way to exclude my own activity from the list of apps that is displayed to the user after the startActivity() call ?

Android :: Avoid Clicking On Notification Calls OnCreate()

Jul 31, 2010

In my application I notify the user with notifications, if something special happens:

public void triggerNotification(String msg) {
notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent contentIntent = new Intent(this, ABC.class);
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.icon, msg, System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.setLatestEventInfo(this, "ABC", msg, PendingIntent.getActivity(this.getBaseContext(), 0, contentIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_CANCEL_CURRENT));
notification.flags = Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
notificationManager.notify(notificationCounter, notification);
notificationCounter++;
}

If the user clicks on the Notification, the onCreate() method is called. But I want that a specific method in my app is called, or if the app is not in the foreground, that it is brought back to the foreground. I know there are lots of tutorials that explain how to handle notifications, but I just don't understand them completely and wasn't ever able to implement the things like I'd like to.

Android :: Status Bar Activity?

Nov 18, 2009

Notifications are displayed in status bar.Any thing, which appears to user in android is an activity. Thus can i assume status bar as an activity. Because user can see it. In that case there are always two activities in running mode ,one is home or any user activity and another is status bar activity. If that is the case we should have two activity stacks in android system one for status bar and another for home activity or any user activity. In my observation whenever a notification is received my running activity is not disturbed.And even it is not found in activity stack. Finally what i want to ask is can assume that there are two activity stacks in andriod system.

Android :: Pending Intent Notification

Jun 9, 2010

I have a alarm thing going on in my app and it launches a notification that then when pressed launched an activity.The problem is that when I create more than one alarm then the activity launched from the notification gets the same extras as the first one. I think the problem is either with the intent i put in the pending intent or in the pending intent itself. I think I might need to put a flag on one of these but I dont know which one.The "details" extra is the same to every the next time a notification happens instead of having the different value.Until I set the intents I am sure that the correct value goes to the "details" so its a problem of getting the first intent everytime i press any notification. How can I make it to launch the correct intents?
