Android :: Update Tabs From Tab's Activity

I have a TabActivity and am going to have 3 or 4 tabs.In TabA, I would like to have an ExpandableListView, which will list products. I would like TabC to act as a sort of "shopping cart", probably with a ListView of itself. So, my question is: is there a way to interact with the TabHost from the Activity? I would like to be able to click a button inside of TabA and have it update and switch to TabC. Is this possible? Can I get the Tab's activities call it's parents methods?

I have an Tab Activity with 4 tabs. Each of tab is showing me the list view. Suppose i m on 4th tab and dragged the list view to the last position and after that i click on 3rd tab and again when i go to 4th tab it is not refreshing and showing me the last visible screen. Actually i want to show the list view again from 1st element. is tabs refresh automatically or we need to do it programmatic?

Where I can find a simple tabs example?
The Android Developers Hello Views Tab Layout example only details how to use separate Activities for each Tab.
I would like to use tabs to extend a screen of settings without scrolling, i.e. there are too many options for a single screen, so I'd like to split them over two tabs, but still handle them in the same Activity.
Each tab can refer to a separate layout file if that is how it needs to be done.

My first page contains 3 tabs. I want to retain all these 3 tabs through out my entire application. That means I want to see these 3 tabs in every view. For example : I have 3 views. First view is Main.class. It contains 3 tabs (Home tab, Favourite tab, settings tab). When I am clicking any one tab (Ex: Home Tab), it shows the contents of Home.class (a ListView) below these tabs. But when I am clicking the ListView view , it will go to another activity(SubListView.class), and I can't see the tabs in that activity. Only contents of that view will be displayed there. How can I show these header tabs in that view also?

I have Activity based tabs i.e i have used TabActivity,tabhost etc Now when we switch between the tabs, for the 1st time the oncreate is called and then after the onResume methode is called I want to know what event/function, of the activity, is called when i click on the the tab which is already selected. Currently I have a TabHost implemented with 3 tabs each containing a separate activity. My question is how do I switch between tabs from within one of the activities that is located inside the tab host. I've looked everywhere and have been unsuccessful in finding a real answer to this problem.

I have four activity in a Tab and after the user clicked on the list I would like to start another one activity, but I can't use startActivity(Intent), because then I lost the TabHost view, and I get an activity witch is reserving the full screen:( So the user won't be able to click on the other tabs. What should I use? BroadCastReciver or What? If anyone have any good idea please help on me.

I have 4 Tabs in a TabHost...let them be A,B,C,D.... now each one is just an index page and clicking on any of them shows a different activity...
The problem is that i need to start another activity wen user selects something from the content displayed in the tab... The other activity should also be displayed in the parent tab itself... is it by any chance possible or i'll have to try some other way around?

I am switching activities on tab clicks and successful at this. But, in one of my Activity class I am doing the following:

I want to change the background of this layout only and I want tabs to their as it is. But with the currentandroid:layout_height="fill_parent"in main.xml my background is overwriting the tabs which means I am unable to see tabs. and If I makeandroid:layout_height="wrap_content"` I cannot see any change taking and tabs are still their.

I'm currently working on my first android application. I am using a tabbed layout for my application. I followed the tutorial for this on the dev guide and ran into a problem. The tutorial only used three tabs, but I have a need for more. As such, the tabs resize and bunch up. I was hoping someone could tell me how I can make them scroll, like in dolphin browser when using multiple tabs.

As a separate question, my users can change the Locale within my app itself, I then "redraw" the menus using onPrepareOptionsMenu (Menu menu) to refresh the strings within the menu with the new language choosen by the user. Is there an equivalent for TABS (I have local strings within the Title of the TABS) or do I have to delete all the tabs and re-create them from scratch ?

We're in the process of writing an app that has 4 tabs: Map, People, Places, Events. The People, Places, and Events in the App show up as Icons on the map. By default the People, Places, and Events tabs each show a listview, custom rendered, displaying all the People, Places, and Events respectively.
Now, right now each of the tabs has as its content an Intent set to launch the corresponding activity. For instance, there is a MapTabActivity that extends MapActivity, a ShowPeopleListActivity that shows the people, and so on and so forth.
I see a lot of StackOverflow questions/answers saying that due to various limitations in the way the TabHost is setup, it's best NOT to use activities as the content of tabs. For instance, it's impossible to launch a new activity and have it take the place of the existing activity within a tab, whereas it's possible to switch out a View with a different view.
Now, I'm at a crossroads. We've (for better or worse) devoted a fair amount of time trying to get this app to work the way it's currently structured, with the Activities as the content of the tabs. When an icon corresponding to a Person, Place, or Event is clicked, it fires off a VIEW Intent on a URI corresponding to that object; this is picked up by an Activity that then shows the object. The same mechanism is at work both in the Map and in the individual lists. We really like the loose coupling this provides us; we just give a VIEW command and the URI to the person/place/event and it automatically brings us to the right activity. Granted, the activity that's launched covers up the tab view rather than appearing inside of that, but we were willing to live with this.
Here's an issue though: from the Show activity, we want to be able to go back to the map, centered at that person, place, or event. We can launch a new activity to show the map again, but now we have the map activity as the content of the tab, plus the show activity, plus the new map activity in the activity stack; given how resource intensive the map activity is, I'm guessing this is not the ideal way to go.
I guess my question is, is there a GOOD tutorial somewhere showing exactly how to do complex tasks with a TabHost? I've seen HelloTabWidget; I'm looking for something much more sophisticated than this. I'm worried that if we switch to the View based way of doing things, we'll have to do a LOT of housekeeping to intercept all the back events, try to switch out the views, etc., etc., as well as strongly coupling our program in a way we don't want.

I currently have a tab layout with 2 tabs, one tab with a list view and one with the option make strings so I can add them in the list view. Both tabs have their own activity because this made the code much more structured, and I dont have to repeat my self later.
Lets say im in the tab that offer me to create an string, and i press the update list button, how do I update the list view without startActivity()? If i use startActivity(), it starts List.java, and instead of displaying the list in the list view tab, it takes full screen, which defies the purpose of the tab view. In other words, the startActivity() steals the focus from the tab view of the list, and sends it fulscreen.
I want to update the activity in my list view tab, without starting a new activity that goes to fullscreen, and doesnt update the one in the tab.

I have an Android activity that, onCreate(), will query a database and display the query results in textviews on the UI.The problem that I am having is at some point, users can open another activity and update the database. When they go back to the original activity, I would like for the text views to update with the new database information (so, I will re query the database and display the info).Another thing that I am willing to do is to take the new input from the user (in the new activity) and directly update the textview in the existing activity (without having the existing activity re-query the database). But I'm not sure how to do something like that either.Can someone please inform me on the best way to go about doing this? The only solution that I have found so far has to do with broadcast receivers, but I'm not sure if that is best suited for what I have to do.

I am working on developing an app and I am not sure when should I use a new activity and when should I update the existing view.
For example, lets say I have a view that shows a multiple choice question.Now, when the user selects his choices and clicks on say "Evaluate", I want to show the same question view but along with the right answers and explanations for each option. So does that mean, I should send an Intent upon a click on Evaluate or I should just update the view (i am not sure how)?
If I send an intent and show a new screen, how can the user go back to the next question without displaying the answers? If I don't create an new activity, how can I update the existing view that is already displayed?

I have an issue with the following error in Android: CalledFromWrongThreadException;: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views. It appears to happen when I try to update a Textview in my Activity, the call to update the TextView is from within my Activity but I still get the above error. I have it like this:
onCreate()
-sets up the buttons and the text view.
onStateChange() - a listener for notifications about state changes, when this gets notification if changes the TextView to say some different text.............

I have been looking for a way to update a widget asynchronously, for example, when the phone receives a text message. I have a broadcast receiver set up with code that runs upon receiving a message. I also have an AppWidgetProvider that is set up and running. It seems like the *only* way a widget can be updated is upon its interval, or when the user interacts with it. Is there any way to update a widget upon a system event?

I have a widget, its setup so that when I click on it, it opens some settings in an activity.

This configures some settings for the application. What I want to achieve is to have the widget update its view to reflect the changed settings when the Activity I launch closes. Using the update interval or any other type of polling isn't appropriate for this.
I've seen a couple places here and in the android docs this code used:

I have a service that is downloading a file. When the download is done, I would like to update my "Downloaded files" list in my Activity, but only if the Activity is running. I do not want the Activity to start if it's not already running. I was hoping I could do this by making a new Intent with some special flag. Anyone have any idea how I can achieve this? I'm currently running into an issue that makes sense but I'm not too sure how to resolve it... Here is the scenario: App v1 icon LAUNCH is set to Activity Main from the manifest file. App v2 icon LAUNCH is set to Activity All from the manifest file and Activity Main no longer exists. After updating to App v2 the app icon fails to launch the application saying it doesn't exist! After a restart of the phone things work. So how can I refresh the applications package or better the launch icon and shortcut icons so that my users don't experience this after an upgrade of my newest app version?
