The problem is in having the back button return to the home screen rather than a routing activity that decides which screen to forward to.

Android :: Java Datetime Values From String To Long To String

Oct 1, 2010

In Android, capturing date from datepicker and storing as string in sqlite. Sorting by date doesn't work because they're strings (unless I'm doing it wrong.I've googled this issue for ~5 days, and it looks like there should be a way to capture the date from the date picker, convert it to a Long, store it in sqlite as a Long, select and sort on the Long date value, then convert the Long back to a "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display. I've tried various combinations of parse statements, Date, FormatDate, etc. with no luck at all.On activity start, get today's date and display it in button which calls the datepicker.Capture new date from datepicker (if one is entered), save it as a long to sqlite. On opening an activity showing a listview of records, select from sqlite with orderby on date (Long), convert Long to "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display in ListView.

Android :: More Efficient Map Overlays

Nov 2, 2009

In my app I am drawing bus routes on top of a MapView. The routes have anywhere between a dozen and a few hundred GPS coordinates that describe the route that the bus takes. The problem I'm having is that once I draw out all these lines panning/zooming the MapView is incredibly slow (even clicking the 'Back' button takes a minute to happen). I'm not sure how relevant it is, but I put in some debug code then checked the logcat output and the MapView is repeatedly calling the draw() method of the Overlay whether anything has changed or not. This is happening several times a second and is causing a massive amount of garbage collection to happen (2-3 MB every second).

Android :: Efficient Map Overlays In On Google Map

1) I was trying to draw poly lines ( I have encoded polylines, but have managed to decoded those) that move when I move the map(the only solution that I found was for Geopoints to be transformed into screen co-ordinateswhich wont move if I move the map !)

2) I have used helloItemizedOverlay to add about 150 markers and it gets very very slow.any idea what to do ? I was thinking about threads(handler)

3) I was looking for some sort of a timer function that executes a given function, say, every 1 minute or so.

4) I was also looking for ways to clear the Google map from all the markers/lines etc

Android :: OpenGL Lifecycle Ends With A Crash

Feb 7, 2010

I am having difficulties with the lifecycle of the opengl context. While rendering my scene and the user hits the back button, home button or another application opens in front of my application, my app is still running in the background.

So when my application comes to the foreground later on (user relaunches it or the app that was opened on top of it finishes), my application crashes and leaves me nothing but a GL stack trace which i can't properly decipher.

For rendering i use the GLSurfaceView and therefore delegate the onPause and onResume. The crash happens on the first call to glDrawElements(..).

I have tried to reload my resource (geometry/textures etc.) on onSurfaceChanged but with or without reloading... The problem persists.

This behavior can be observed on all AVD versions of the emulator as well as on the G1.

Here is the gl stacktrace i get.
