Android :: Simple Listview - Consists Of Strings - When Click Opens A New Activity

Jun 21, 2010

I have a very simple listview going on. The list just consists of strings, when you click the string it opens a new activity blah blah. Here's the problem, I enabled settextfilter and while it did filter the list, when you click the result, it always performs the action of the string located at zero, and not the one it is supposed to.

Android :: ListView On Click Listener Not Working Within Tab Activity

Sep 23, 2010

I have a ListView and an ExpandableListView inside of a TabActivity. I have overridden the setOnItemClickListener for the ListView. I have 2 tabs and one uses the ListView and the other uses the ExpandableListView. For some reason I cannot click on any of the items in the first ListView. If I change tabs to the ExpandableListView and then go back to the first tab it will then allow me to click on the items as usual. Any ideas on why this is happening. Is there some kind of weird focus thing going on? Code...

Android :: ListView Selection - Make Only Item Click Be Effected By Click?

Apr 1, 2010

when I click on one item in the ListView that item's background changes to light gray, but when I continue to scroll through the list every 4th item has the background changed to light gray even though those other items have not been clicked. How do I make only the item I clicked be effected by the click?

ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.resultsList);
lv.setAdapter(new ArrayAdapter(this, R.layout.resultitem, (String[])labelList.toArray(new String[labelList.size()])));
lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView parent, View view, int position, long id) {

Android :: App Widget Configure Activity Opens Main Activity

Jan 10, 2010

I hav an app that is like a relational database. There is a main app activity that users manage things with. There is also a widget that will display important info and add data to the database. When the widget is clicked, a configure class displays a way for the user to edit data. When the configure activity is done, the widget is updated and instead of going back to the home screen, the apps main activity is started. I can't find where the main activity is being called from. Wouldn't I have to create an intent and start Activity() to get this behavior? When done updating, I want the home screen and not my app.

Android :: Catching Both Click And Long Click On ListView

May 3, 2010

I have a ListView in my Activity. I am trying to catch both a click and a long click (which should bring up a context menu).

ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.MyListView); ... lv.setOnItemClickListener(this); lv.setOnCreateContextMenuListener(this); ...

I notice that if I have both the click and long click listeners up, I won't ever get the long click listener (i.e. the context menu). If I remove the setOnItemClickListener() call, i get a call into

@Override public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v, ContextMenu.ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {

Android :: Set An Item As Selected When The ListView Opens?

Oct 8, 2010

An activity has a Button and a ListView. Initially, only the Button is visible. When the button is pressed, the ListView is displayed. When displayed, is it possible for me to show one particular item as selected/focussed?

A use case could be that suppose it is a list of language settings and when the list opens, the currently selected language must be shown as highlighted. If I know the index of the item, how to set it as focused on display?

Android :: App Opens Previous Activity / Only Intermittently

Jul 24, 2009

This is an intermittent bug in one of my apps. I don't expect anyone to solve it immediately, but I'd appreciate any thoughts on how to start debugging!So, my app lets users edit an item (in the EditPage activity). When they press the Back key, the desired behaviour is that it saves their edits and returns them to the home page (the HomeList activity). The code for this is below. It works fine. Except.The bug is this. Some users report that sometimes when they reopen the application after a pause, they are seeing *not* the home page, where they left the application - but the previous edit activity. Crucially, they are also seeing the edit activity without their saved edits - effectively losing their most recent edits.I've been able to reproduce this myself. It only happens after the application hasn't been opened for a while. If I save something, minimize the application and reopen it straight away, it shows the HomeList activity just fine, and the edits have all been saved. But if I save something, leave it for a couple of hours and then reopen it, it shows the previous EditPage activity, without the saved edits (i.e. in the state that the EditPage activity was previously launched).

Any ideas, anyone? I had wondered whether it was due to the Back button being used to return the user to the HomeList activity - maybe Android thinks that the Back button means that the HomeList is not the most "recent" activity, instead the EditPage is. I'd like to carry on using the Back button if possible, though. And in particular, I'm puzzled why it only happens after the app has been idle for an hour or so, and not immediately? Is it something to do with Android's memory management?

Android :: Strings Generated By Substring Not Treated As Hard Coded Strings

Nov 21, 2010

Dear all, I'm making a simple file decoder for Android 2.2 that needs to find the filename of the encoded file from a header. This filename should then be used as the filename for the decoded file (as you would expect).The filename is identified by the substring name=, so the actual name starts 5 places after that. The line is read by a BufferedReader and temporarily stored in currLine.For some reason I can't understand nor find on the web, Strings do not always seem to be Strings.Gives no output file, nor an IO exception. The string is parsed properly though: from the System.out debugging lines.

What I want is when A2 opens, none of the buttons are focused until arrow keys are used to naviagte through them(just like it is in A1).

Android : Simple ListView App Is Leaking Memory

Nov 18, 2010

I created a simple app with a ListView following the ListActivity examples I found on the net.

The app has 2 activities with the first having a button to create the second. When i hit the close button on the second activity I would like it to release its memory (or at least allow it to be garbage collected).

Currently it will never release.

I must be doing something wrong here because the MyListActivity never gets released. Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong with the way my activities are created/destroyed? or if my usage of the ListView is wrong?
