I have read posts on passing arrays from and to activities, but I am confused as to how I would do it for my specific case.
I have an array of objects called DaysWeather (a DaysWeather[] array) where the objects have several String attributes as well as a bitmap attribute. I read somewhere that you have to make it serializable or parceable or something, but it seems messy at first glance.
Could someone lead me in the right direction?
Is there a simple way to do this?

I have an array adapted listview (the array adapting is done in another class). I just got the click listener working for the list but now I want set it up so that when I click an item. It pulls the strings from the clicked item and piggybacks them on the intent to a new activity. I figure I am supposed to use intent.putextra however I am not sure how to pull the correct strings corresponding to the item that i click on. My code is below. I am simply lost to be honest
//Initialize the ListView lstTest = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.lstText);
//Initialize the ArrayList alrts = new ArrayList<Alerts>();
//Initialize the array adapter notice with the listitems.xml layout
arrayAdapter = new AlertsAdapter(this, R.layout.listitems,alrts);
//Set the above adapter as the adapter for the list
lstTest.setAdapter(arrayAdapter);
//Set the click listener for the list
lstTest.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
public void onItemClick(AdapterView adapterView, View view, int item, long arg3) {
Intent intent = new Intent( HomePageActivity.this, PromotionActivity.class );
finish(); startActivity(intent); } } );
my alerts class..
public class Alerts {
public String cityid;
public String promoterid;
public String promoshortcontent;
public String promocontent;
public String promotitle;
public String locationid;
public String cover;
@Override public String toString() {
return "City: " +cityid+ " Promoter: " +promoterid+ "Short Promotion: " +promoshortcontent+ "Promotion: " +promocontent+ "Title: " +promotitle+ "Location: " +locationid+ "Cover: " +cover+ "$"; } }
anddddd my alertsadapter class..
public class AlertsAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Alerts> {
int resource;
String response; Context context;
//Initialize adapter public AlertsAdapter(Context context, int resource, List<Alerts> items) {
super(context, resource, items); this.resource=resource;
} @Override public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent)
{ LinearLayout alertView; //Get the current alert object Alerts al = getItem(position);
//Inflate the view if(convertView==null) {
alertView = new LinearLayout(getContext());
String inflater = Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE; LayoutInflater vi;
vi = (LayoutInflater)getContext().getSystemService(inflater);
vi.inflate(resource, alertView, true); } else {
alertView = (LinearLayout) convertView; }
//Get the text boxes from the listitem.xml file
TextView textPromo =(TextView)alertView.findViewById(R.id.txtPromo);
TextView textPromoter =(TextView)alertView.findViewById(R.id.txtPromoter);
TextView textLocation =(TextView)alertView.findViewById(R.id.txtLocation);
//Assign the appropriate data from our alert object above
textPromo.setText(al.promocontent); textPromoter.setText(al.promoterid);
textLocation.setText(al.locationid); return alertView;
} }

Dear all, I'm making a simple file decoder for Android 2.2 that needs to find the filename of the encoded file from a header. This filename should then be used as the filename for the decoded file (as you would expect).The filename is identified by the substring name=, so the actual name starts 5 places after that. The line is read by a BufferedReader and temporarily stored in currLine.For some reason I can't understand nor find on the web, Strings do not always seem to be Strings.Gives no output file, nor an IO exception. The string is parsed properly though: from the System.out debugging lines.

I've got a map of about 500 entries. Strings are all very short (less than 5 chars).Its read-only data I want to read once at app-startup. What's the best way to store this so that loading this data is fast?I've tried storing the data in a CSV in res/raw but this takes about 700ms to parse on my N1, so I'm hoping there's a faster way.

I have a very simple listview going on. The list just consists of strings, when you click the string it opens a new activity blah blah. Here's the problem, I enabled settextfilter and while it did filter the list, when you click the result, it always performs the action of the string located at zero, and not the one it is supposed to.

Is it possible to reference other strings inside of strings.xml ?
Something of the form...
(If it did exist, there would of course be problems of circular, infinite definitions, etc. to beware of).

I am developing an image applications.
One activity decoding image file (jpg, bmp, and so on) to byte buffer RGB 565 or 888 type.
Then want to pass image buffer to another activity for change image data.
I have 3 activity the main decoding activity[A] and selecting effect activity[B] and apply effect activity[C] for change image data.
If i use intent then activity[A] should make intent[1] and putExtra to that intent. and then [B] call getIntent and getByteArrayExtra for get byte buffer.
If user select effect then [B] make new intent[2] and putExtra to intent[2]. and startActivityForResult with intent[2] and activity[C].
Then activity[C] call getIntent to get intent[2] and getByteArrayExtra for get byte buffer again.
There takes much times to make new byte buffer and copy from parent's activity's byte buffer 2 times. [A]->[B] and [B]->[C]
That process drops application performance.
Questions
1. Can i pass intent[1] to activity[C] without make new intent[2] and putExtra byte buffer? by modify intent[1]. (if it works just 1 buffer copy will perform)
2. Can i use application global memory for share byte buffer? if i use hash map how can each activity access same hash map? (if it works don't need to copy buffer)

In my Android app,I start a new activity with startActivityForResult(). I get the result in onActivityResult() perfectly. My problem is that there is a small bit of data that I know before I start the activity and I need that value to be available in onActivityResult(), too. I tried attaching it to my intent as an extra, but it wasn't attached to the intent that is available when the activity returns the result. I made it work by storing the data in a global variable, but I really don't like that approach. Is there a better, right way to pass data through an activity (instead of just to it)?

However, I need to pass some objects from MyActivity1 to MyActivity2 --

I figured out how to pass a String value between activites thanks to this site, however I'm having trouble passing an image. What I'm trying to to is have a user click a button that opens the gallery and allows selecting of a picture. Then I have another button that opens another activity that displays an ImageView. I want to be able to have that ImageView's image be the chosen one from the previous activity.
Here is the class that has the button I'm clicking to open the gallery and retrieve the chosen image: code...
What I'm not sure about is in the OnActivityResult if I should pass the selectedImage or the chosenimage in the b.putExtra("bitmap", selectedimage); line. I tried both but I didn't see an image on the second activity. Also I wasn't sure in the PreviewScreen class if I'm setting the imageview correctly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

How do you set/pass values from one screen (activity) to another? What I have in the R.layout.main view labeled Calculator contains the code for doing calculations. The main.xml contains the layout (view) of the main screen. I have created an options menu which has another screen which shows you setup (R.layout.setup). The dialogsetup.xml contains the layout (view) for it.
When you press the menu button, you get the options menu. If you select "Setup", then it will display the setup screen. Now what I need to do is take the values from the setup screen (radio button and text values) and place them in the main screen so that when you exit the setup screen and go back to the main screen, you can take those values and use them in your main code.

I am want to pass data back from a Thread to Activity (which created the thread). So I am doing like described on Android documentation.Only one thing I am missing here - where and how should be defined mResults so I could access it from both Activity and Thread, and also would be able to modify as needed? If I define it as final in MyActivity, I can't change it anymore in Thread - as it is shown in example.

But I don't know how to handle this in the child to check who is the parent. The above code is used on one of the parents,, is there somehow I can use "EQ_CODE_SELECT_LOCATION"? Also I wounder how is possible to send data to a child activity?
