I am facing some not understandable error. Could anybody help to put light on it.... The variable edtTxt is returning null and encoutering nullpointer exception while I am trying to run and entered text in the txt_edit field.

I have an EditText field and a button. My aim is to let user enter text info to the EditText or click the button to launch a dialog to select some checkbox and radio button which it will perform some computation and return a value to display at the EditText field.
I can't seems to get the value to display at the EditText field after the dialog dismiss. I did try a toast to display the value and it is ok. I *think* the view was not refresh to display the text in the EditText field.

I am trying to add a "EditText" Field to an AppWidget. I took the AppWidget example from here: http://developer.android.com/guide/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/andr oid/apis/appwidget/index.html and modified it by replacing the TextView with a EditText. It doesnt work... Compiles and runs but the Widget sais "Problem loading Widget" when it shows up.
Maybe an example? Is the default Google Search Widget open source? Can someone give ma a link to the source?

When they are in activity1, and they hit the soft back button on the phone, it takes them screen where they entered their name and email. However, the name and email EditText fields are blank. In the view where the name and email are entered I looked to see if onStart, onCreate, OnPause, onResume,... where being called after the back button was hit, but they are not. Do you know how I can make it so that the EditText fields have the information that was previously entered.

If I set the field to disabled, it greys out and I cannot enter text with the hardware keyboard, however when I touch the field the virtual keyboard appears and that still lets me enter text. Is this a bug? Any workarounds for making sure this can't happen?

I can either create my own Dialog class (which, to me, is more clean and organized), or I can use AlertDialog.Builder (which would be done inline, and funky looking)... But I get an error within xml editor: "Error: No resource found that matches the given name (at 'style' with value '@android:style/ Widget_TextView')." It is strange because @android:style/ Widget_TextView definitively exists - I double checked it in code via android.R.style.Widget_TextView. Another strange thing is that I don't get android:style offered in the xml editor while typing? There is android:id, android:text and everything else.. but not android:style?
I consider the hard way (making EditText look like TextView) to be: extending EditText and overriding it's onDraw method.
Our app (WordPress for Android) uses a ScrollView for the new blog post view. The issue is that if a user writes a lengthy blog post in the EditText, they are unable to scroll inside of the EditText because the ScrollView seems to be taking over the scrolling action, even when you are in the EditText.

I've narrowed the problem down to the TextView's layout_width attribute. If I give it "wrap_content", it works, but doesn't "block" down, and it appears on the same line as the EditText.

I have this at the top of my application. When the application starts, the EditText is orange highlighted and has a cursor in it; when the EditText is tapped, the soft keyboard pops up. The user uses it to type into the EditText.
However, when they click the Button, my onClick method fires and does everything it's supposed to, however the soft keyboard stays on screen and the EditText is still highlighted with its cursor.
I also have, at the top of the Button onclick: findViewById(R.id.name).clearFocus();
In spite of this, the EditText does not seem to clear its focus. How do I make the button actually act as if it is submitting the form?
Also, I do not transition to a different Activity on the click of the Button. I suppose that is the typical case, and probably the reason why they don't bother hiding the keyboard. However I want to keep the search box and button at the top of the screen, so I just dynamically fill and add views to the screen when the Button is pressed. How can I achieve my desired behavior?
I'm trying to create an application that can use the android as a fax machine, IE Send a picture as a fax or receive a fax and save as a picture. So far I'm starting from the ground up and making sure I can intercept a call at the users discretion. I have an Receiver registered in the Manifest of my program with a filter of Phone_State which flags when the state has changed(IE incoming call).
So on my BroadcastReceiver I'm trying to have an AlertDialog popup prompting the user to either accept as fax or call but the AlertDialog seems to throw a android.view.WindowManager$BadTokenException Error when it has an incoming call. My code is just simple an onReceive(context arg0, intent arg1) and I pass the arg0 to the AlertDialog...

From what I have seen in the AlertDialog code, it passes the context as well as a Window and WindowManager, which I believe is why it's crashing, is there a better way or something else I should be using which might overlay the call screen?
I have a TabActivity with 3 tabs. Each tab contains its own Activity. When one of the contained Activities pops up an AlertDialog, there are actually 3 dialogs created. The dialog has a Dismiss button and it must be pressed 3 times to finally dismiss the 3rd dialog.

On debugging I can see cursor c contains two columns and one row but when it comes to line

it throws the CursorIndexOutOfBoundsException although columnIndex = 1 which should point to a valid entry. Does anyone know what could be wrong here?
I have a settings menu that pops up and in it is a listpreference type menu. It is associated with a settings.xml file where there are 'array-strings' within it. It all works good but I don't know how to retrieve the users preference. As an example, let's say the user picks a color (red, green, or blue). The list that I've made within my 'array-strings' contain the text red, green, and blue. Within my code, I would like to do something if the user has choosen red, something else if they choose blue, etc., etc. Would I use a 'case' statement or an 'if' statement? And most importantly, how would I retrieve the users preference - the key? (am I checking for a boolean?)
